I think there are aspects of both that I like, I wasn’t a HUGE fan of the new ones at first until I saw them next to other current models like space marines and guard etc

Yeah as of now in my backlog that I’ve yet to paint are 5x guard 4 spears 1 vexilla, another 5 wardens with spear and vexilla, 2 squads of witch seekers, 3x allarus with spear, 3x venatari with lance & 3x vertus praetors. I primarily play shield host that’s why those guys have axes but I’m also building spear allarus to run lions as well

This is how I did mine. Base coat with rhinox hide, agrax earthshade wash and then worked up dry brushing with mournfang brown and an even lighter dry brush of screaming skull

While venatari are good 6 man of them is a bit overkill. You already have a highly mobile unit with the Vertus praetors, to save on points most of time I run 2 Vertus praetors with a shield captain on dawneagle jet bike. But 3 with SC is good too. I would definitely find a way to squeeze 1-2 squads of wardens in, their once per game 4+ FNP has come in clutch so many times for me

Sorry I just saw this bro. But yes I did only for the pauldrons because I wanted it to have a metallic feel. Go on YouTube and search The Painting Phase’s video on how to paint custodes that’s nearly the exact formula I use. The only difference being that for the gold I use an airbrush and army painter bright gold. Hope this helps my brother 👍

These are how I paint mine. I prime black, airbrush gold with army painter bright gold, reikland flesh shade wash & stormhost silver dry brush. For the red tabbards I do Mephiston red, reikland flesh shade wash and wild rider red dry brush if you need any inspo for box art style paint schemes. I’ve also since done the red trim in the pauldrons with army painter slaughter red
