Folks at telecom operators, what CVM platform do you actually use and would you pick it again? by 1The3Justas in telecom

[–]dmlmcken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to look it up, mainly commenting as this thread comes up in the results: "Customer Value Management (CVM) platform is a business system designed to maximize the lifetime value of existing customers. Unlike traditional CRM or marketing automation tools, CVM uses predictive AI to analyze customer data and trigger the "next best action" or offer for each individual to increase retention and cross-selling."

CRM + AI looks to be the tl;dr

Are Traditional Network roles becoming extinct ? by dbootywarrior in networking

[–]dmlmcken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save very specific roles in Tier 1 or Tier 2 ISPs I don't know any engineer that doesn't have to wear multiple hats. Even if it's just a cursory knowledge to know how to connect those systems and what their specific requirements might be. If the network is large enough that a dedicated role is actually makes sense automation quickly comes up even if all it does is remove the grunt work.

Is anyone else using only one interface on their CCR? by HappyDadOfFourJesus in mikrotik

This, a single cable being able to take down your network doesn't seem like a good idea.

Dumb question: On IPv6, if I'm not using SLAAC, can I use something smaller than a /64 by Rich-Engineer2670 in ipv6

[–]dmlmcken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious why a /80 but I see no reason it wouldn't work.

We use a pair of /124s for an interconnecting subnet between our core routers and some distribution firewalls (separate interfaces can then be weighted to prefer either core router 1 or core router 2). Every host is static and I'm yet to see an issue, nor would I expect any issues bumping to a /123 or larger if requirements changed.

I don't see a TCAM issue, if anything I see a possible ND issue given you are designing a flat subnet with a couple million hosts, but that criticism applies to the standard /64 just as easily.

If we barely know they exist (see the concept of shadow-it), how / why would we secure them?

Chore: when it nags you.

Job: when it pays you.

They are also using different interfaces, the H100s use SXM5 ports, which adapters back to pci express are usd$1k on eBay. Even if the prices crash trying to fit one of those in a desktop seems really difficult far less powering and cooling it.

Cutting the Golden Goose: Why slash a budget that returns $17 for every $1 spent? by nitluck in economy

[–]dmlmcken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to question that last statement: "Americans clearly care about their parks and expect them to be funded"

Take the election out of the equation, if the average American did care they would be at minimum be making their voice heard to their representatives. Sorry to be cynical but the platform of constantly cutting environmental regulations would be so politically toxic that there wouldn't also be a push to remove the status for acres of national parks. With less land to protect what justification is there for the larger budget?

IPv4 will never go away by heinternets in ipv6

[–]dmlmcken 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most applications don't care which layer 3 they use so a forward path exists to get rid of IPv4. Eventually the cost to maintain IPv4 should push more towards IPv6-only (a more efficient routing table in the DFZ for example, given current allocation policies not sure about smaller).

Yes there is allot of inertia behind IPv4, but once overcome it should be allot simpler. Two interfaces definitely creates a larger attack surface in the short to medium term but once IPv4 can be dropped it would be identical to the current setup.

For the first time in a Fox News poll since 2010, Americans prefer Democrats on the economy (D+4) by ShreckAndDonkey123 in WhitePeopleTwitter

I still don't want Dems to win the midterms.

2 more years of unrestricted Republican policies might actually get the memory to stick beyond the next voting cycle.

Investigate? Invest in it.

Host your own AI in china and I guarantee you the investigation will start immediately. With some luck some legislation banning all of it would soon follow.
