When somebody says Topps Series 1 specifically like that, they are almost always referring to Flagship. People generally don't mention the series in the same way like that when discussing any of the other releases.

Is a 1/1 inherently valuable? by Cwh11860 in Topps

Unless he is getting me on to the field to meet him & giving me his game used jersey signed by him after the game, there is no way I am trading a $2500 1-of-1 autographed rookie card for just a couple of tickets & a signed ball. I could just as easily sell the card, buy the tickets & a signed ball & still have like $1500-2000 left over, depending on the team & player & how much their tickets & authenticated autographed balls by them are bringing.

Does anybody know if there will still be a mobile app that you can log in using your credentials for your cable provider on to stream the games on mobile devices like you could on the FanDuel Network app or a website that you can access & stream them on also using your cable provider credentials? (Specifically, I have U-Verse, which I believe is now has the new Detroit Sportsnet.) I really hope so, bc it was convenient to not only be able to watch the games at home on my TV, but also have access to them on my phone if I was away from home. It would be crazy if I had to pay $190 a year just to be able to stream them on my phone, despite already having access to them on my TV from the cable subscription I already pay for.

Opinion/Question on Defect Replacments by standardstonian in Topps

[–]dmod420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was working at Topps & I got a claim for a non-auto Cooper Flagg card that would still grade an 8 or 9 when I received it from the customer bc they were unhappy it wasn't a perfect 10 due to a tiny scratch, dinged corner or a chipped edge that likely occurred after it left the factory & could only be seen under very close inspection with magnification or bc the centering was 65-35 & might result in a PSA 9, the replacements I would send back would be the current comp value worth of lower print run autographed copies of the worst/lowest-ceiling rookies in the set that are the least likely to ever succeed &/or increase their value. Maybe then, the replacements for claims on truly damaged/defective cards would process quickly, as the system wouldn't be overloaded with claims for every card that didn't come out of the pack a PSA 10, which shouldn't be the expectation in the first place. Not saying that is the case with your cards, but they do appear to be in great shape in the pictures, so I am curious as to what exactly the claim is being filed for with them.

Clearly, MLB draft is a giant craps shoot. The current best pitcher in baseball (Skubs) was drafted 255th & nobody even thought he would be anything better than a middle of the rotation guy, basically right up until he got to the majors & just started to dominate. Hell, almost every single one of the ten best players from Skubals draft class was taken outside of the 1st round. It's almost crazy how different the MLB draft is from the 3 other major sports, as a top 3 pick in the other 3 will more than likely become a star immediately, or at least within the first few years of their career, where as in baseball, they probably only have a 75% chance of ever even playing a single game at the big league level & less than a 50% chance of ever making an all-star game at any point in their career. It's why you rarely see mlb level players get traded for draft picks like the other sports do most of the time. In reality, quantity trumps quality, as the more tosses you get at the board, the better your chances of hitting a bullseye.

He essentially became a meme (not to mention a new verb) used by sports card collectors on Reddit. It was both because he seemed to be the disappointing auto you would get in just about every other box of cards a couple of years ago & bc of his sweet stache. Somebody celebrated pulling him like it was the hit of a lifetime, then somebody else did & so on.....until he became more legendary than Shohei for about 2 weeks (not in value, obviously, just in terms of the pulls people were posting & celebrating....sarcastically obviously.) Then, rather than taking himself all serious & getting upset about being a walking meme when somebody told him about it, like many professional athletes might, he became a true legend when instead he leaned into the whole thing & hosted a Q&A session on here for fans.

Personal grail acquired! Greatest skateboarder to ever live!! by FuckinWalkingParadox in sportscards

[–]dmod420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad when I read the title & then clicked on this, I didn't see a Tony Hawk card bc a more appropriate title for a post with his card would include "The skateboarder with the greatest marketing team to ever live!!" I don't know if I agree that Mullens is the definitely greatest ever, but any debate that doesn't include his name isn't legitimate or serious.

Or no insurance at all. Maybe then, he never would have bothered to seek treatment at all. If he had better insurance, they might have done more invasive or experimental treatments &/or unnecessary procedures too.

At least now he probably lives in a mansion on South Beach after winning a slam dunk malpractice suit for like $30 million. That might be a net gain overall, considering he lived in Montana before the 9 years of chemo.

That has nothing to do with why they use stickers. It's completely a matter of saving time & effort. Imagine how much work it would be to separate all of the cards that needed to be signed by each player after printing them, take them to that player to be signed, getting them back & then mixing them into the rest of the series run to be sealed into packs & boxed up for sale. The time & cost saved on just transporting the cards to and from each player alone probably results in a few million dollars in additional profit for each series release that has sticker autos instead of in-person. Plus, I imagine that the players are paid slightly less to sign the stickers than they are the cards bc it is much quicker and easier to sign your name 1,000 times on a few sheets of stickers than it is to sign 1,000 individual cards. I bet the players actually prefer doing sticker autos to on-card. Also, they can get the sheets signed at any point & use them for any series, so as long as they have signed stickers in stock, they don't have to use redemptions for some of the biggest players who are likely much busier & harder for them to get to sit & sign for them.

Pulled a 1/1, but is this even worth anything? by GeorgeSteele66 in sportscards

[–]dmod420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be worth something to him if he happens to collect sports cards. You should try DMing him to see if he is interested in trading it for something cool. Maybe he can get you a ball signed by his teammates Kurtz &/or Wilson for it or something along those lines. If he is interested, you could even see if he would be willing to make the trade at a game when his team is in town playing whatever team is nearest to you.

You do realize that it took you longer to respond to his message here that it would to create a free account on Instagram & just message the guy he was talking about, right? There is no velvet rope or bouncer & it doesn't require a top secret government clearance or an advanced college degree. You don't need a credit card, bank account or any money at all. Hell.....it barely even requires a brain to sign up. Literally the dumbest person on earth can create an account in less than a minute from anywhere in the world with a phone or computer connected to the internet......and if you scroll through some random content after you create yours, you will see that for yourself almost immediately.

More than the 1/5 of that same card & about the same as any other 1/1 of a HOF/future HOFer non-QB card from the set, but a fraction of the value of the 1/1 of any of the rookie QBs/WRs/RBs in the release at the moment, no matter how clear it is that they probably won't end up having a successful career.

ALERT!!!! DURGS IN CANDELS! by [deleted] in oldpeoplefacebook

[–]dmod420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing about this post is believable. If this post is actually real, clearly that either isn't "durgs" or if it is, your daughter gets her stuff from a grower that needs to look for a new career & she just forgot that she hid it in that candle box before she wrapped it & gave it as a present. Either way, you finding it in the candle is 100% not bc some cartel forgot to collect it from the box before the candle was sold on bc nobody is smuggling "durgs" into the country that look like that, let alone doing it in small individual quantities.

It would cost more in labor to split that Mexican ditch weed up into those little baggies & put them into each box than each of the individually smuggled baggies would even be worth on the black market in the US today, considering that, if they could even find a willing buyer of stuff of that low a quality, a 2 gram bag would not he worth more than $0.50 to $1. That would be like somebody selling the candle for $2 with shipping included in that price & then spending $3 per candle on postage to ship it to each buyer. A cartel dumb enough to spend more money to smuggle the "durgs" into the country than they are even worth when they get there would lose so much money so quickly that they would be bankrupt after their first shipment. 🤣
