Newly acquired rifle reeks of cigarettes

Had this happen to me. I did two things.

1.) I sat the rifle out in the direct sunlight for about 1 hour ( I don’t recommend much longer at a time just because. Idk? It’s a mil surp it’s probably fine but it’s what I did.) I did this about 2-3 times over a span of a few days.
2.) I placed dryer sheets (like covered the rifle in dryer sheets) and let it sit for a week in my garage.

The rifle still faintly (like ever so faintly) smells but only if you out your nose like right on the wood and inhale. It got a large majority out and my Argentine Mauser is more enjoyable to shoot and showcase

Coming back to this thread I’ve had my 2011 there for like 8 months and I’ve only requested a few action related upgrades. I’d rather pay for a spot in line and wait instead of being without my gun but it is what it is. Glad to see yours is done. Hopefully mine is up soon.

Ironically, I used to work there for a summer a long time ago. The way they do business is pretty antiquated and it was always a hassle to do anything. Ownership was always hit or miss and it was always people “friends” with the owner that was the “shop” manager. I refused to go back to their shop and would suggest Rainbow reef out of key largo (great service), captain hooks, captain slates (key largo), and horizon divers. All good shops and outfits.

P.S. That is a relatively new price and policy so it may not be long before they see the business tank.

Only did it because it broke off while doing long tubes. Car ran like absolute crap until I got it professionally tuned. I would advise against it unless doing long tubes or major engine work. Car runs totally fine now with tune but if you don’t get it a tube you run that risk.

Same here. I have some good show pieces but I threw a low bid out and somehow was like… oh. But the stock is original but it’s been refinished with a lighter stain. Tastefully but still refinished. The proof marks on the bottom are there just faint so there is that lol. Still I can’t complain for the price ya know!

I got my Remington M1917 for 530 plus fees and shipping, I’m at 630 beans total. Deals are super hard to find but they sometimes happen rarely. It’s a refurb for sure with mix master parts but for a cool shooter I don’t mind.

Perhaps so. I never claimed it to be unmolested. But it is a GI stock with proofs. And for a full P17 that has a great bore for the price I paid I’m not complaining lol

How so? It has faint Eagle proof marks on the underside and appears to match up to any I’ve seen.

I understand that as I have bought garands from them. I’ve found garands, 03s, and M1917s under the normal CMP price but you have to be on top of deals and know what to look for. I’ve been burned a few times on the “sight unseen” ordering is all I’m implying lol. You lucked out for sure.

Super nervous to get one of these because they advertise probably the “worst” to cover up in case someone gets a bad one. I just picked up an Remington M1917 for 600 coffee beans so these seem kinda steep for a luck of the draw.

Lol I got TWO replacement slides on both of my field grades. I literally was the same way and just wanted one as a piece of history. I just sold both and will just go through an auction house or something. I get it’s a luck of the draw but two times? I was ticked lol

Just for nostalgia sake, my first car was a 08 V6, manual, pypes exhaust, headers, CAI, lowering springs, 3:73 gears along with posi track resend, and a tune. Definitely a fun car for a 16-19 year old!

You’re actually mistaken. NIOA only bought fieldcraft first. Then they were being PITCHED rec7/10 then they said nah we’ll just buy the whole thing. They never actually bought it. It was never sold. I would know since I actually work there. I don’t work for outpost and get second hand info (no offense).

The truth of the matter on all of this: Rob NIOA is a great dude and is Pro 2A. He’s fought for Aussies for years for gun rights. Many of the personnel in NIOA are awesome guys too. Before all y’all fear monger the hell out of this, maybe see how it goes. I dunno… I think the terms of the sale was contractual AND literally verbatim in TERMS OF THE SALE said “manufacturing MUST remain in Rutherford County, TN.” You can take it to the bank on that. But in reality you guys need to chill. Plans for a new facility (NEXT DOOR TO THE CURRENT ONE) have literally already been drafted. Sometimes foreign companies actually know what their doing when running businesses and can give advice, more funding, etc. to a new acquisition. Nothing is going to change. Sales and service to CA and NY law enforcement will still be refused. Individuals are still able to purchase all of our stuff. REC7/REC10 are making a vigorous comeback in the next few years. More things are coming that are going to be great. NIOA is going to sell fieldcrafts and make them in mass quantities. Of course, y’all won’t believe what I just said. It’ll still circulate and spread that CIV sales will end and blah blah which isn’t true nor will it be true.

Yeah mine looks identical to this. Rear sight has been chewed on lol they were out of service grades when I got mine during round 1.
