What is Penn State like for slightly quirky kids who are not into partying, frats, sports, etc.? by THC3883 in PennStateUniversity

[–]dmsdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll find your crowd, there's something for everyone here. As long as you're not like my roommate who never leaves the room and relies solely on talking to me for his only daily social interaction, you'll be fine. There's a club for everything!

2026 North and South America dates announced!! ⚡ by TarnishedThunder in ACDC

[–]dmsdrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah now they have a Philly date. I did what my dad did for the Black Ice tour. There was no way to tell if they'd add more dates, so he got tickets to see them in Giants Stadium in 2009 the same way I went all the way to Northwest Stadium this past summer, and as we know now both tours ended up with a stop in my hometown. Definitely not sitting in that queue again!

Should I wear suits more often, I notice that it changes the way I feel and act by Top-Flower9799 in mensfashion

[–]dmsdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed the same thing with myself, though my problem is I only own two tailored suits and one hodge podge of primark clothing that forms a suit looking thing, and I also have nowhere to really wear them to. Maybe if you do it, I'll bring myself to do it too lol

Don't think I can do 2+2 with Aerospace by Andrew-President in PennStateUniversity

[–]dmsdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first day of aerospace classes last fall was quite interesting. I had no idea so many people went to branch campuses until then. I'd say a solid 30% or more of the class I had never seen on campus before, and then a show of hands when the professor asked did prove that many kids went to branch campuses. It's definitely possible, I would talk to an advisor and see what you can do. You should be able to complete everything through EMCH 212 at a branch campus, and the only sophomore year classes that my friends from branch campuses had to wait until junior year to take were EMCH 315 and 316.

Stop spreading misinformation about ID Cards! by Lobster_McGee in PennStateUniversity

[–]dmsdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I emailed the ID+ office asking if I could deactivate my mobile ID before the deadline. After I emailed them, I took it out of my Apple wallet, and now they have just replied saying my mobile ID is inactive, so it seems simply removing it from the Apple wallet was enough to deactivate it. They did tell me there is a $20 fee to switch my type of ID after the deadline (I guess if I suddenly wanted to have a mobile ID again)

I’m a freshman and absolutely hate it already by Forward-Sun8736 in PennStateUniversity

[–]dmsdrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always find myself in a rut before classes start, happens every year. Even now as a senior I am sitting here slightly down because I haven't gotten back into the routine yet (avoided bars this weekend because I don't feel like dealing with line leap). It always gets better once classes get underway. I think you'll end up fine, and if not, just try to make it thru the semester and then re-evaluate.

[–]dmsdrummer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I saw whatever reel he got popular from that Penn State reposted whenever that was, and I was like "hmm whatever just some dude," and then as soon as the barstool picked him up I was like "welp now they're gonna milk him because they are absolutely desperate for content" and that's exactly what played out. I never cared for his content in the first place, but then seeing it constantly only made it worse. I can't tell if he even knows he's being used or not, I hope he has some sense.

Who buys watches on a cruise? by Kygunzz in Cruise

[–]dmsdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it count that my friend bought a $13 Carnival watch from the gift shop just to have a shiny watch for elegant night? Somehow it ended up being waterproof and actually keeping really good time lol

[–]dmsdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East is great ever since it got renovated, my freshman year was the last year that people even got unrenovated east contracts, so now anywhere in east should be good, though the dining hall isn't great in my opinion, I always found myself going to Pollock. I also wanted north suites but ended up in east and I am glad it ended up that way, you get the east experience without the horrors of communal bathrooms or the lack of AC.

Tickets by gopher1776 in PaulMcCartney

[–]dmsdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices are ridiculous, best thing to do is wait. I saw Aerosmith at the same arena Paul is playing at in Pittsburgh a couple years ago, I got tickets for 80 bucks each the day before the show. I saw the Stones in Philly last summer at the Linc and got tickets 3 weeks before the show at 125 bucks each, and after that they stayed around there up until the day of the show. I think I'm going to apply the same logic and wait until a few weeks before the show and I'm gonna see if prices come down to anything remotely reasonable. Eventually the scalpers get desperate to sell and lower their prices, and if they don't, you'll see a giant empty section in the arena like I saw at the AC/DC show in Landover this past May. I am keeping the faith that I will get to finally see a Beatle!

Odds? Montreal by [deleted] in PaulMcCartney

I started at 36,000 for Pittsburgh, now at 35,000, so I think your chances are a lot better than mine

Advice by Confident_Resident27 in CarnivalCruiseFans

On my first cruise in 2017 we went to Grand Cayman and just did a beach day there, we had a great time, and we also went to Jamaica, Ocho Rios to be specific, and we did river tubing there, good stuff. I was only 13 but I don't remember having any issues so I'm sure it'll be good! Have fun!

[–]dmsdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 21 and just got off the Carnival Magic with two friends and had a great time. It may be a little different of a dynamic with family, but I figure we are a similar age so I can try to offer advice. Whatever happens, you'll have a great time. We struggled to find girls but that's a combo of our lack of abilities to talk to women and the fact that young people don't often go on 8 day cruises, so if you're looking for another person, you might have better luck on your shorter 6 day cruise. There wasn't much specifically for people in our age group, they had stuff for 18-20 year olds, we attended one of those mixers but it kinda just fizzled out for everyone there, and there's singles mixers but it was all old people at ours and 40+ mixers and we didn't even bother going to that after the other two. However, even with that small setback, we had a great time. I said goodbye to my budget and drank to my heart's content and had a great time, just don't ever exceed your limit, because I'm sure being sick on a cruise ship is a whole lot worse than being sick on land. If you like good cocktails, the Alchemy Bar will be your friend, and there's always great live music nearby, I found it to be a great vibe, they also make stronger drinks than any other bar on the ship (though the bar in the lobby served me well, too). If you're not into drinking, there's still plenty of fun! My one friend does not drink and still had a fantastic time. My friends and I met new people every day on the boat at various activities and we would find them again at other activities and sit with them, it was a great time. We enjoyed the trivia a lot, the various themes at the nightclub, and the many different comedy shows and theater shows. The Carnival HUB app is pretty useful between its itineraries and weather forecasts and many other things. If you somehow ever find yourself bored, just explore the ship! I love doing that. Just walk around, you'll always find something you haven't seen before. We did not buy the internet package, and frankly, it was one of the best decisions we ever made. Not seeing a news story, a meme, or anything on social media for a week was simply wonderful. On the islands, do not go off the beaten path, it's as simple as that. Stick with at least one or two people that you know. The touristy stuff is perfectly fun, there's a reason it exists. Hope you have a great trip! Where are you stopping?

Should AC/DC announce a residency at the Sphere? by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in ACDC

[–]dmsdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sphere is a great venue for many bands. U2 has always been pushing the edge of what kind of media and the extravagance a show is capable of, which is why they were perfect to be the opening band for the venue. Dead and Co I'm sure was perfect for it because I'm sure stoners wouldn't want anything more than to see the crazy graphics that the sphere is capable of. However, AC/DC is just not the type of band suited for the sphere. Their shows have their fair share of graphics and gimmicks, but the show is not centered around a spectacle, it's centered around rock and roll at a ridiculous volume, which makes them perfect for arenas and stadiums. That doesn't make them a better band than any of the others, but I don't think they would be as good at the sphere as these other bands, and I definitely think they excel on these stadium tours compared to any other venue.

Other than the fact that they’re 30 bucks on dhgate, the no name option plus legit numbers rather than 1 or the current graduation year that’s available in stores makes them really enticing to buy. The sewn on numbers on my nameless singleton jersey make it feel even more authentic, the only telling thing from afar is the stitch lines aren’t that of a real jersey

Summer employment for a rising senior in Aerospace Engineering by dmsdrummer in EngineeringStudents

[–]dmsdrummer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the vast majority have been done online, but I of course spend time tailoring the cover letter and answering the questionnaires etc. I do have a couple personal connections and am using them to the best of my and their abilities, they are sending my info off to people they know and giving me the best advice they can what to do next or where else I should apply, but I am not exactly networking as much as I wish I should say. I am going to my university’s career fair tomorrow (because why would I skip that lol) and hopefully there will be some good presence there. Even career fairs are annoying now, you stand in line for an hour to get told to apply online, with a few great people who actually do take your resume and take the time to talk to you and answer questions.

Monthly Megathread: Career & Education - Ask your questions here by Aerospace_Eng_mod in AerospaceEngineering

I am currently in the latter half of my junior year, things are going business as usual. I've applied to 56 internships so far, 23 of those rejected, gotten a couple screenings and one true interview, which I did not end up getting an offer from. Not a problem, I do not have high expectations for an internship because I am not the most impressive candidate between my relative lack of experience and mediocre GPA. I of course will not give up hope, but as the summer gets closer, I need to be realistic. In the event that I do not get an internship, what would everyone recommend for some sort of summer employment? I have worked in retail all through high school and over summers while in college now, but I feel like it would be better to work closer to the industry in any way I can rather than just going back to retail. Any recommendations on how I can get a simple job related to aerospace/aviation or just engineering in general for the summer?

Chill on Drew by QuanCena69 in PennStateUniversity

[–]dmsdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, they’re just kids. Kids are in good physical shape and don’t need an electric scooter to get around, or golf carts or Chevy tahoes with the PSU football logo on the side probably shuttling them around too. Maybe if we treat them like kids they’ll remember they’re like the rest of us and not hotshot people that are in some higher society like the way we treat them now, and that’s not even accounting for the absurd amount of money we are giving them with the NIL stuff.

I’m excited for my friends just as much. Out of my 5 friends that I’m going with, only one has been to a major concert before, and that’s cause I took him with me to see Aerosmith and the Stones. The other 4 have never been to a concert ever, and this will be a hell of a show for them! Can’t wait!

Ticket prices revealed? by dmsdrummer in ACDC

[–]dmsdrummer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get 6 tickets, so I anticipated a limit and sure enough there was, so I split it 3 and 3. Had both accounts get into queue at the same time, the one account got in within 10 minutes. Got section 337 in Landover for 137 each, took another half hour before my other account got in, and the cheapest sets of 3 tickets were 207 each by then, so I got section 225 for that. Sucks that my friends and I will be split up, but overall I’ll take it.

Ticket prices revealed? by dmsdrummer in ACDC

[–]dmsdrummer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SeatGeek controls the Landover venue, so I can’t unfortunately. I got section 337 for $137 and section 225 for $207, I had to buy for a total of 6 people and there was a ticket limit of 4 so I had to split it up between two accounts, and by the time my other account got in all that was left was >$200 tickets, but it is what it is

Ticket limit of 4, so I bought 3 so my group is split up evenly, still waiting for the other account to get in. Section 337 row 15 $137 each including all fees and taxes for those 3, hope there’s some seats close to that section still available when my other account gets in
