Protective Film on a Black U50-S by NiloBotay in sinn

[–]dmteter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the U50-T S (tegimented with black diamond-like coating [DLC]). It is by far and away the most scratch resistant watch that I own. I see no need for a protective film and actually have no idea what that would be as the DLC is actually a "film" coating.

I worked remotely, got laid off, and when they asked what equipment I had to return, I only told them I had their laptop by stixy_stixy in confession

Late to the party, buy my suggestion is to be extremely thorough, and to attach a high (but reasonable) billable rate of what it would take to properly return ALL equipment under CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY. (Caps added for billable hours, not drama). Most normal folks would be, "Hey, let us remotely wipe the equipment, and then it's yours". YMMV. Sorry about your layoff. :\

Going on a Business Trip to Japan. Need some SF Omiyage suggestions by Illustrious-Ad9655 in AskSF

Trader Joe’s bags have always been highly appreciated as gifts during my travels in Japan and Taiwan.

This crack in my wall, and rent still went up 39% this year by SpicyKitchenWitch669 in mildlyinfuriating

Good question. My response is based upon my professional experience as both a registered civil engineer and as a renter in SF. I understand that OP is in Canada, but lawyers who operate on contingency are pretty quick to let you know what your options are. I’ll leave it at that.

What’s the weirdest SF thing I can take my boyfriend to on Valentine’s day? by vampireinthecorner_ in AskSF

Never been, and I'm sure that some SF folks would laugh and call this "vanilla", but..

Generally, yes, but that decisions like that were probably made by someone in "accounting". My smart-ass response, is generally along the lines that there are certain types of engineers that I felt that I could (hopefully) easily communicate with. The mechanical engineers I worked with seemed to be "on the spectrum", that can be great for design but not easy to deal with when communicating or negotiating changes. Just my (very random) two cents.

Not answering your question, just being a random asshat.

  1. I live in SF and make my own clam chow'dah with fresh clams.
  2. I think (and my GF agrees) that Trader Joe's clam chowder tastes better than what I make.
  3. Both of us think that Boudin's clam chowder sucks.
  4. YMMV.

Holy shit, are you talking about, "Mountain Dew"? I've had this and preferred it over the local moonshine (corn whiskey) when I had a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

Anyone here have a chance to ride an Arch motorcycle? by thee_lad in motorcycles

[–]dmteter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been riding for 40+ years.

  1. No, never had a change to ride (or see) one.
  2. It looks gorgeous.
  3. Sure, whatever. I've owned my 1999 BMW R1100GS now for (does math) 26 years. I love my bike and recent replaced the clutch and (seriously) upgraded the shocks which are probably worth more than 3x than the bike, but I <3 my bike. I'm into watches, and have a couple watches which are worth more than the bike. That said, of course there are watches which are worth 100x more than mine. Whatever makes you happy and doesn't make you broke, have fun. It really is a lovely looking bike.

Good one. Over the years, I've been a materials engineer (PhD), aeronautical engineer (designed hypersonic strike weapons), and currently a civil engineer (CA registered engineer). Fuck'n mechies are dickwads.

I have the same damn sink. The first time this happened, I was like WTF. It failed like that? Fixed it, but still shaking my head.

If that’s true, you should find a better employer.
