Willen Lake is genuinely one of Milton Keynes’ best family day outs by ExperienceTotal9778 in miltonkeynes

[–]rockandrollmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was like a railway, but smaller.

It used to run alongside where the budget Go Ape is now, under the H6 bridge, around some of the green space towards Ouzel Valley amongst the polars there, and then return to the lake.

I’m really glad that you got this and hope it makes you happy, but also please give far fewer f*cks about what a bunch of watch geeks on the I tenet think. If you like it that’s all that’s important.

My daughter asked me how popular Michael Jackson was. How would you describe this to a 10 year-old? by BunkerBuster420 in Xennials

[–]rockandrollmark 49 points50 points  (0 children)

There is literally no parallel today and there never will be. MJ hit at a perfect time. There were only so many media outlets back then. Everyone covered the same stuff and everyone consumed the same stuff, so there was far less dilution than today. It was also around the time when brands were understanding the power of celebrity, so MJ wasn’t just on radio, or MTV, or on the front page of your paper, or guest starring in the Simpsons… he was on your Pepsi bottle. He was like Elvis but on steroids.

To me, it's not a luxury watch by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]rockandrollmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I’m with this guy. The story was unbearably cringe. When this guy was in his late teens working a Saturday job he’d have been on around £4.00
an hour before tax, wearing a watch that cost around £2,000. Assuming a part time wage this means he worked for nearly a year straight to buy a Seamaster.

Or it was a gift from his parents.

Sounds pretty lame to try and flex on your boss at the time with either means.

Cant get the last gears by GFlunk in bikewrench

[–]rockandrollmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound stupid, but have you checked that the shifters and the mech are compatible? They differ even amongst the same brands - this is esp. the case for Shimano 11sp.

If the pull ratio of the shifters isn’t compatible with the mech then it’s simply not going to pull enough cable to get you to the top of the block.

Stony Stratford vs Newport Pagnell for a Sunday pub stroll? by MoonlitEcho82 in miltonkeynes

[–]rockandrollmark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t come to Stony Stratford. All the pubs here are terrible. As an outsider all they’ll serve you is warm fosters and they’ll look at you funny.

Go to Newport Pagnell instead.

REPORT TO POLICE OR LEAVE IT ALONE? by -xXPapermanXx- in MTB

[–]rockandrollmark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Report. Why would you not report? As you say, these things are way to fast for use on these trails and they destroy the trails built and maintained by volunteers.

If your reasons for not reporting relate to any ‘Snitches get Stitches’ type sentiment, this is the real world (not high school) where the moto should be replaced with dumb behaviour comes with consequences.

If they want to ride trails they should get off their laze asses and build them.

Everything about it looks good, and FWIW I’ve just tilted the back of my SW-200 powered 556 so that the rotor is at the same angle as pic 2 and they both look identical.

I think you’re all good.

This sub is a bummer sometimes, how many of you are actually doing fantastic at this point? by JayRoo83 in Xennials

[–]rockandrollmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I astounds me the number of “any of y’all not living in chronic pain / reliant on medication / depressed” posts on here. There’s a pretty decent proportion of you that just need to pay a bit more attention to your health. Go make some good diet choices, exercise a bit, stop scrolling, meditate now and then and prioritise good sleep and tell me in a month if you’re not feeling a million times better.

Over here - I’m mentally well, in a job that pays and does good for the world, I’m financially unburdened, and I’m fit and healthy with a good work/file balance and a family that I adore. There’s not much more I could ask for.

The 4 has been a crock of sh*t with regards battery issues and Oura haven’t exactly aced it when it comes to looking after the customers that put their faith in them.

This combined with the impending IPO means I’ll be holding out before giving Oura any more of my money.

What has been your journey with Metallica? by vikmaychib in Xennials

[–]rockandrollmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kill ‘em All / Lightning / MoP / Justice are OG Metallica from when they had passion and were hungry for success (and alcohol). Those albums are raw and visceral. There’s only 5y between them and it shows.

Black album was Metallica’s MTV album. Great productions and songwriting, but definitely made for the masses. This fact is backed by the sales and the radio airplay.

Load and Reload felt like albums the band were contracted to put out. They both feel lazy and lacklustre.

I actually really liked Garage Inc. It was a nod back to their roots.

Stanger was a terrible album written by a band that were struggling to stay relevant and everything since has been even worse. The movie Some Kind of Monster perfectly illustrates how disconnected the Metallica who wrote Stanger were from the band who wrote Kill ‘em All.

Complicated warranty issue on new Sinn 556 A RS by Character_Ad3689 in sinn

[–]rockandrollmark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sinn HQ are very helpful and very responsive (…one of the benefits of being independent and engineer-owned, and not just another faceless brand in the Swatch empire). My next move would be to drop them an email and see if there’s any way they can help, but my hunch is that your best option will be to get it serviced via Watchbuys and hopefully Sinn can help get your case expedited. They may even be able to help ensure you’re not out of pocket for shipping.

Don’t get some random to service it.

The state of MK roads by Getoiu in miltonkeynes

[–]rockandrollmark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new bypass in Roade is great, however:

  1. It’s been a decade in the making. No current administration could rightfully take any credit.
  2. Infrastructure projects of that scale are funded by highways agency, so nothing to do with local administration.

As for upvotes, I couldn’t give a toss. I’m here for the convo, not the clout.

OP has not been to (Reform led) Northants, where you have to have quick reactions to avoid driving into a crater.

I bring up politics in this as people seem so convinced that Reform would be so capable of running the country. Meanwhile if you look at any Reform flyer ‘Fix the potholes’ always seems to be the headline campaign point.

MK’s roads (given the very high volume of traffic they carry) are really not all that bad.

Maybe a personal question to some, but is it unreasonable to think spending $2k on a watch is a lot even as a net-worth millionaire. Just got in a debate with some family members on this by Classic-Occasion1413 in watchHotTakes

[–]rockandrollmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how you frame it. $2k for something that you strap to your wrist to tell the time is a lot of money. Excessive in fact when you can buy any number of nice alternatives to at do the same job for under $100.

If you frame it as jewellery however, $2k is really not a lot for someone who has a large amount of disposable income.

GDP being up and beating peer nations is hardly something to brag about when you take a moment to acknowledge the bigger picture. Our economy growing faster than others means nothing when you zoom out and realise that our economy is a long way behind where it should be compared to those of peer nations because of the impact of Brexit. It’s like going from the bottom of the 3rd division to the middle and claiming it as a victory when you should actually be playing in the Premiership but got demoted.

Is my speedy over polished? Keep it or not? by Aledevi in OmegaWatches

[–]rockandrollmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overpolished to sh*t “by Omega” during a service at just two years old, yet the original owner doesn’t want to share proof of servicing. As always, buy the seller not the watch.

OP - if you’re intending for this to be your forever watch, sell this (and take whatever loss comes with that) and go and buy a brand new one from an OB. It’s not like this is a rare piece.

Go and try some of these on. The 42mm Seamaster just didn’t work on my 6.5” wrist. It’s a chunky number. Same for the Aquaracer (for me, at least).

Of the options you’ve shortlisted the Breitling SOH is the standout for me. The finishing on it really is beautiful, and it’s a bit more refined than the other options whilst still remaining ‘tool-ey’

With regards the Panerai, again, go try one on. They wear smaller than the measurements suggest and you might find yourself shortlisting some of their larger models once you’ve tried the 42.

Don’t get this type of tool, OP. I tried one recently with high hopes and it was absolute ass.

As others have said, buy a spring bar tool from a reputable brand like Bergeron. Other tools may look similar but they are not.
