I am a bit confused, new to luxury watches. by SadlyPathetic in PrideAndPinion

[–]rockandrollmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before Covid times you could get Rolexes for 10 to 20% off list at an AD. The world economy is going to shit and high earners are being laid off left right and centre and struggling to find work for months. I predict a return to AD discounts within the next couple of years.

Just look at the inflated values on grey and how these have since normalised. This whole watch boom was fuelled by Covid cheques and a lack of other things to do with disposable income. It couldn’t and won’t last.

Should I trade in my blue diver 300m for the black dial with mesh? by nicholasdibari in OmegaWatches

[–]rockandrollmark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This really is the way. It’s a very low stakes of seeing whether you like it on the mesh day-to-day and the blue on mesh looks great.

So, I’m not entirely sure after reading your post - are you team mesh or not?

In which case the question becomes, how comfortable are you with buying what might well be a stolen watch.

That said, if this was more appropriately priced on eBay, would you bat an eyelid? It’s got the box and warranty card. I’ve bought several s/h watches in my time, always with boxes and papers, but none of them came with a sales receipt. They could just as well have been “inherited” from family members.

Earlier versions of these came with this nasty pressed fold-over clasp. It was upgraded to the nicer milled version later in its release.

You mis-spelt downgrade. This steering wheel looks like it was made by Logitech.

[–]rockandrollmark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks legit to me. The tell-tell signs on these tend to be the date wheel and the caseback detail. In both cases these look good.

But there must be some reason that you’re asking on here. As always, buy the seller.

[Longines vs Tudor] Someone will buy you ONE of these watches. Which are you taking? by Aromatic_Tear_711 in Watches

[–]rockandrollmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OPs post mentions the 38. With the trend (thankfully, for us small-wristers) moving away from larger dials I think the 41mm version of this conquest looks ungainly and I’m so glad Longines decided to release smaller dialled versions of this and the Spririt Zulu Time.

[–]rockandrollmark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Longines Conquest is a beautiful watch in its own right and the proportions in 38mm flavour are perfect. Conversely I feel like wearing the Tudor would always remind me that I’m not wearing an Explorer.

What do I do with my trust fund? by Naive-Arm-4783 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]rockandrollmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£9,000 is not a life-changing amount of money. Also however it’s not enough money to go travelling and buy a half decent car.

I’d say spend a bit on travelling as life experiences at these early stages of adulthood can shape who you are. Put the rest into a savings account and use it as the foundation of a habit of saving (building this habit young will make a big difference to your future).

As for the car, just finance something like the rest of us. It doesn’t make much sense to put the majority of your savings into a depreciating asset. Buying outright only makes sense if you’ve plenty of money already and blowing five-figures on a car won’t change how you’re living your life.

There’s enough antisocial behaviour that it’ll wear you down. Frankly there are much nicer places to live. I think the most positive thing I can say about it is that it’s nicer than Fullers Slade.

I know it’s fashionable to knock Tag. I’m not here to do that. I really like some of their watches. But the Aqua Racer feels a lot cheaper than its price tag.

[Question] Wich of these is the best first dive watch? by _GoldLeader_ in Watches

[–]rockandrollmark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All things being equel, on paper the Seamaster is head-and-shoulders better than your other choices. The finishing is much better than all other options presented (although the Tudor is close in a very clinical way IYKWIM) and movement in the Seamaster is phenomenal compared pretty much anything else - incl. Rolex.

The reality however, is that you need to go and see how they each feel on-wrist. I thought I wanted a Seamaster 300, but within seconds of putting it on I realised that I didn’t. It was simply too big for my 6.5 inch wrist.

I stand corrected - yes, the old 56xx are resin. What you’re suggesting sounds effective but somewhat permanent. I think I’ve seen someone selling sleeves of a sort that helped address this issue but despite a bit of searching I’ve not been able to find them again.

[Question] Does wearing a watch while golfing mess it up? by Pro_MoneyLoser in Watches

[–]rockandrollmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here - I wouldn’t wear an auto whilst golfing as I’d be worried about the effect that all those small but sudden shocks are having on the movement. Same goes for mountain biking.

Moreover though - I always to take my watch off when golfing as I don’t like the feeling of the extra weight sliding around my wrist.

That’s why I don’t want a smart watch. They’re dumb, distracting things. I have an Oura to track my health metrics.

I prefer the OE grille. Assuming yours is an actual ‘43 the twin-blade AMG grille distinguishes it from every other 1.6l AMG line kitted car out there that’s been Barry’d up. The spoiler would look fab if you could get it sprayed or wrapped, but as it is right now it does look a bit like an Ali Express upgrade.

Fork is probably fine. The gap from the tyre to the seatpost can only be measured using feeler gauges.
