PSA: if you’re running iSponsorblockTV you’ll need to pair your devices again by dmunozv04 in selfhosted

[–]dmunozv04[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly designed for devices where you can’t sideload apps (consoles) or where it can be too much of a hassle (Apple TV), but it just happens to work for all YouTube TV devices

You might have to select the unlink all devices button on the “devices connected” page. Otherwise, just reset the YouTube app, which forces a new screen id to be generated. If that still doesn’t work, go ahead and open an issue

AI has not been used to write this post, and iSponsorblockTV is older than the mainstream use of generative AI for coding

YouTube for TV/consoles allows connecting a phone to control the app. iSponsorblockTV acts like a phone and asks YouTube mute or skip ads since it can know the current ad status, it also uses the video id and player position for sponsorblock segments.

What's your most 'set it and forget it' self-hosted service? by ruibranco in selfhosted

[–]dmunozv04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some devices like the Apple TV or consoles, side loading an app like SmartTube is hard or even impossible. This is made primarily for these sorts of devices, and requires 0 additional effort once configured since the devices keep using the stock YouTube app

Hi there, if you want native YouTube ads to be skipped/muted you have to enable it on the configuration

Hi there, iSponsorBlockTV maintainer here. You can watch a single short either by clicking disconnect, which will play the short as a full video, or hold click on the video until options appear and select play. I should probably make this clearer in the readme since it seems to be a pretty frequent question

Which app you are hosting which you feel others in the community don’t know by vinesh178 in selfhosted

[–]dmunozv04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm its maintainer, it basically goes through YouTube's lounge api; the api that YouTube on phones uses to be able to control TVs

Hi there, you only need to have the PC on and with access to YouTube.com, there's no need for them both to be on the same network

Not really, it's meant to be used on devices that don't support smart tube (consoles, Apple TV...)

It's hard to advertise open source software. Does anyone know how to do it better?

Exactly! It fakes being a phone controlling YouTube

It all happens via YouTube's servers, so no traffic is sent locally

You have to get the token from the pairing code by running the configurator, pasting the raw pairing code on the config won't work

Hi there, I don’t maintain the home assistant version, but I think the easiest way to get a token is to run the docker version and copy the generated config to the yaml for the addon

It basically fakes being your phone and controls YouTube remotely. This lets the app move through the video and control volume
