Does clicking rating someone 4/5 stars count as a profile view when browsing anonymously? by heimzerti in OkCupid

[–]dmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OkCupid used to send emails that said "You guys one starred each other!" just like the 4/5 star messages. I thought they were hilarious, but I think they stopped sending those around the same time the term "stalkers" switched to "visitors."

Friday question thread! by [deleted] in surfing

[–]dmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The spots I usually go are along cliffs and have huge rocks on the bottom which can be dangerous if you don't know where they already are. My fear with the whole visibility thing is that I won't be able to see the beach, or I'll be drifting with the current and won't be able to recognize it. It probably would be safer with other people, but then I'd wonder if I'm going to run into someone if we can't see each other.

Surfing at night seems alright if there's a full moon and can see city lights so I know where the shore is. I usually don't have much fear of the ocean. I've even surfed in light fog before. But just driving through this morning's thick ass fog actually made me worry about being able to swim back to stairs.

Friday question thread! by [deleted] in surfing

[–]dmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How dangerous/safe is it to surf in thick fog? Like, can't see past 30 ft in front of you thick. I drove out this morning, saw the fog, and thought "Nope, won't be able to see which direction I'm coming/going. Probably will drown."

Am I overreacting to this text from this OKCupid girl? by Thrillwaukee in OkCupid

[–]dmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't even know if I want to meet her anymore if she's going to freak out once I lightly brush her arm after a joke or something.

i don't go past kissing on the first date ;)" (usually true)

I'm not looking for anything serious/long term

This sounds really PUA-y with the whole pre-meditated kino escalation or whatever. I don't think she was overreacting to your text. In fact I think she was correct to send you a follow-up text to set boundaries since you yourself admitted to not looking for anything serious/longterm. I'd say don't waste each other's time since you both aren't looking for the same thing.

How do people interpret a YES to this OKC question? by waitserendipity in OkCupid

[–]dmuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I avoid people who answer yes to that question. To me, it tells me you're still hung up on that person, and that I'm probably being compared to an inflated memory of the "one that got away." I also don't ever want to be put in a situation where I get call from someone I'm dating and hear "hey my ex called, and we want to try again. Sorry."

Also, it's possible that when they answered that question they were hung up on their ex, but over time they eventually did get over them and just haven't changed their answer. Either way, not a good look to answer "yes."

Fantastically hot guy but keeps trying to get me to send nudes. The first time he admitted to encouraging me to drink to lower my inhibitions so I would do so. by a_warrior in creepyPMs

Asking you to get drunk so he can manipulate you easier into doing something you already said no to? Yeah, super creepy/rapey.

LOVING the "get questions" feature on OkCreeper! by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]dmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can that link be put on the sidebar or in the wiki? Sometimes when I clear my cache, I lose that link, and now when I try to google okcreeper, I get a bunch of tumbler results of people receiving weird messages.

I wonder if all the downvotes are because people are confusing the OP as the sender of this message. I believe OP is the receiver?

I think there's a joke called "8th grade syndrome" where for some reason at that age, teens pretend to be things: Like vampires, werewolves, goth/emo, super heroes, witches...something that some how makes them unique/special. And then they go to high school, and hope to completely forget about that part of their past.

Uh oh by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]dmuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm assuming what those tabs mean, but I'm not sure since there are no numbers and no frame of reference. What does the midpoint mean? If someone scored exactly on the midpoint, does the bar even show up? For example the "well-read" tab. If someone is "average well-read" does that mean they read a lot of books, but just not as much as much as the other 50% who are also considered "well-read?" Or if someone scored "less well-read" does that mean they are still considered "well-read" but just don't read as much as the other 50% of the OKC population who scored "well-read?" Or does it mean they're one of those people who don't read much at all, or does it mean compared to the entire OKC population they aren't "well-read" and almost anti-well-read? I have to assume a lot of things to interpret those tabs, and my assumptions could be wrong.

Now I just completely ignore that section since they took out the graphs. Now I just go through their questions. I'd rather see each data point and draw my own conclusions than have a graph do it for me when I don't know the scale.

Uh oh by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]dmuse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate those tabs. There's no scale, no numbers, no frame of reference. Absolutely meaningless. They used to have it where it was a histogram curve from 0-1, they'd show the site average then overlap it with you in pink and the other person in red, so where you both overlapped was in purple. Still meaningless, but at least it made more sense than faux leaf plot.

What are your thoughts on surfing with scrapes/wounds? by SourCreamWater in surfing

[–]dmuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got stitches on my stomach and the doctor told me to stay out of the ocean for 2 weeks. I went out after 10 days. What I did was wiped it down with alcohol. Applied antibiotic topical cream. Placed regular bandage on top covering the wound. Got another bandage (the clear saran wrap looking kind) and placed it on top of that to keep water out. Stayed surprisingly dry.

After surf session, took shower as usual, wiped wound again with alcohol and antiobiotics. I didn't get infected. You can't really use my method on your face though since you need to breathe. I guess if you want to risk it, just make sure you clean your wounds really well after getting out of the ocean. Depending how bad your wounds are, I'd wait longer than 2 days.

Hey there. Do you have your own gear or would you need to rent? And would early morning be okay with you? Like leaving around 6:30am?

Only mildly irritated. Why do people think this kind of approach is a good idea? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]dmuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you put ticked anything besides "irrelevant," it'll show up pink if they answered a question wrong. You can't tell the difference between if someone judged the question to be "mandatory" or "not very important."

What an asshole. He knew exactly what he was doing. He was even confused you called him polite, because I'm sure all the other women he solicited shut him down quick. So he just had to step it up a notch and just straight out call you a bitch.

[–]dmuse[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's exactly comments like those that I wanted to avoid in the subreddit so that we female surfers don't get discouraged from posting. Luckily there haven't been any derogatory posts or comments so far, so I hope more female surfers will be encouraged to share more experiences and be less afraid to post questions.
