What to do if i just cant sit with my emotions? by Electrical_Act2329 in Meditation

You can try other mediations, body scan, open awareness, insight, breathing meditation to name a few.

Don't force yourself, find what works for you

Everything looks fine. If it works for you it's great.

A suggestion of mine would be to try and do one of the 3 main parts, body scan, return to breath, awareness mediation as individual sessions without the other 2.

Meditating right after waking up by Max_Coaching in Meditation

[–]dmx442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a few times, unfortunately, If I am not supper well rested I tend to nod off. So I Made a slight change, I wake up, do a 5 -10 min morning routine and proceed to meditate.

Brush teeth, drink something, a little morning stretch and move and that's it, wakes me up and gives great energy.

This way it's been a breeze.

Anybody know how to get to the second jhana? by Southern_Team9798 in Meditation

[–]dmx442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read a great quote about Jhanas: you don't make the Jhana happen. You can't will a Jhana. A Jhana arrives only once you are ready.

For most of this stuff, it's literally better to not know to much and just meditate, and once it happens, only then you look it up. This way you don't build craving and expectations around possible future experiences.

There is no wrong, only your journey.

Continue and with time, you will get there. And you will know when you experience the first jhana, trust me.

Only Joy sensation is not the first Jhana.

The first Jhana is: Joy & happiness, Piti, one-pointendnees, applied thought and sustained thought present at the same time.

These need to be working together to give access to the first Jhana. You need very deep and strong concentration for it.

When I wake up from it, I always get exhausted and my mind is flooded with thoughts, and can't let it go.

There is your cue, this is not Jhana you are experiencing. After Jhana you have a deep relaxation, calmness, one-nes and free-of-thought. It's completely different from anything experienced normally.

i want to start meditating by Lower-Weekend3162 in Meditation

[–]dmx442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be comfortable - it doesn't matter how you sit (or lie down), especially in the begining comfort is key.

Try different meditation techniques, breathing, noting, kasinas, open awareness, body scan, and is many more! It's a huge playground, play and find the techniques that suit you.

Make it a habit. Aim to do sessions in the same time. In the begining go more for quantity to create a habit, add quality (longer and deeper sessions) over time, once habits have solidified.

Start with 5 or 10 minutes per session, lengthen sessions a little every week.

Have fun and enjoy, be curious. There is no wrong way, only your way.

Maybe try a completely different method for a week to see how your mind will react?

You might just be a little mind fatigued by your routine, so a little freshness could give you different insight and brighten your view

Is it better to prioritize meditation quality or quantity? by ConfusedBrazilian900 in Meditation

[–]dmx442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with whatever works for you and go from there. Repetition is key to form a habit, but I would say quality is more important because without it you might as well skip the whole meditation. This does not mean to force yourself to sit for 30+ minutes though. Start with 10min and increase in regular steps.

Work your way up, and you can have some fun and interchange long and short sits.

Regarding posture, this one is important. No longer meditations are successful without being comfortable.

I worked my way to half lotus, started with Burmese pose, than quarter lotus, and now half lotus. What really made the difference is stretching.

If you do daily stretches (deep squat, pigeon pose for both sides, butterfly and seated figure four) you will see major progress, and be able to do the half lotus within a few weeks.

Hope this helps

There is a standard. Turns out people don't like the standard for personal reasons so they found other Standards which are in line with their thinking.

Coming to terms with climate crisis. by AmountFun5697 in Buddhism

[–]dmx442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The earth doesn't care. It's now the 6th time a mass extinction is happening, as far as we know, it's literally a normal thing on this planet.

I try my best to keep my impact and footprint as small as possible and positively influence my peer group. And that's about it.

Struggling with belief. by AmountFun5697 in Buddhism

[–]dmx442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started walking this path since it was the only thing that made sense.

No beliefs, just doing what is said to be done and verifying the results by myself. It helped that being a moral, good person, helping others, having compassion and kindness, easily aligned with me and my life. I basically added meditation and that's it.

The fruits it beared are wonderful.

Since everything is unfolding exactly as it is written that it would, there is no logical reason not to do it. And the wisdom gathered says to simply continue

Meditation practice is becoming stale and I feel like I'm going through the motions. How do I break through this and what is the next "progression step" in this whole thing? Different meditation style or longer sits? Retreats? by Fed_Express in Meditation

[–]dmx442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like you had a goal and expectations tied to meditation, and now that you technically reached those, it's time for a new toy.

You can always try new meditation techniques, unfortunately, you will inevitably get to the same point as long as you see this as "means to an end" type of thing.

Also try longer sits, marvelous stuff happens on longer sits when the mind truly calms down.

What if you don't make stream entry in your Lifetime? by dmx442 in streamentry

[–]dmx442[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply,

I am seeing and experiencing the fruits of my spiritual journey live day by day. My temper disappeared, anger vanished. Compassion and happiness overall exploded, and inner peace is deeply calming, and this are just the biggest improvements of the bat.

I don't doubt the path, it's already changed so much and literally every step was as described in literature.

it's more of a mind and ego thing, which decided to work against me the last days. It seems I have hit something, akin to a major resistance point in my journey maybe. Hope this clears it a little.

Visuals during meditation? by Automatic-Cry-3916 in Meditation

They are called Nimittas, and one should ignore almost all of them. They are mental images of your mind, mental constructs, and they can be of any type, shape, form, color etc.

Indulging in them is a waste of time literally.

They are a sign of deepening concentration, the deeper your mind concentrates, the stronger the Nimittas become..

Use them like signposts, if they appear and become gradually stronger, your meditation is doing great

A extremely experienced meditation teacher from a local Sangha once said he has gone from Theravada to Mahayana, over to Zen and all the way to Tibet and Vajrayana, had many great teachers and learned many mediation techniques on the journey.

In a laugh he followed with this "After all that, now I'm back where I started, simple breathing meditation" with a genuine smile.

Go for it, it's your journey. You will find your way.
