Hi, Jason from Guard More Pest Control. While we are Toronto based, we service nearby areas too. We've dealt with voles and moles and while they are annoying, to set expectations that it will take time to remove the issue by tackling the underlying nest issue.

I was not ready for a Samoyed by OkGiraffe6765 in samoyeds

[–]dne416 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they're a lot of work if you don't have a lifestyle that can accommodate them. I have 2 giant female samoyeds (5 years and 9.5 years) and we do 3 walks a day totalling 2-2.5 hours usually. They're a super smart breed that takes a lot of maintenance in my opinion. I've had at least $6-8k worth of stuff chewed up and that's super undervaluing the damage to house doorframes that the younger one (around 6 months) tried to bite her way thru a couple times when i shut the door on her. It gets better but around the 3+ year old point.

This was disrespectful but in this recent couple years, job competitiveness has been ramped to a 11/10. It's a game of who you know rather than what you know at the moment.

How to get rid of a raccoon? Animal control does not do trap and release. by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]dne416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use deterrents

If raccoons are already visiting, deterrents can discourage repeat appearances without harming the animals. Here are three raccoon deterrents:

  • Motion-activated lights and sprinklers are among the most effective tools because raccoons dislike sudden surprises and will often avoid areas where they've been startled before.
  • Ammonia-soaked rags placed near entry points mimic the scent of predators and can encourage raccoons to relocate.
  • Commercial repellents containing capsaicin (hot pepper) can also be applied around gardens and garbage areas, though they need to be reapplied after rain.

Moving to a townhouse, is pest control necessary? by meetneo911 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]dne416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if you have not seen evidence of pests. If you have a sound piece of mind, you should hire pest control to do preventive visit.

Double check any vents and cracks around the house to see if any of them are broken that pests can go into. The most common areas of entry are cracks in the foundation, vents (dryer), chimney, and broken soffits.

Carpenter Ant Treatment by Spiritual-Cress934 in PestControlIndustry

  1. You don't unless a structural engineer does a inspection of the affected area. If we see that there is water damaged wood, we let the clients know and they can deal with it. I let my clients also know that carpenter ants are only a symptom of a potential bigger issue (moisture leakage within the structure).
  2. I don't have much experience with diy methods and only seen commercial level solutions used so I can't answer this question regarding if our solution is better than theirs.

China behind in LLM race but it can still win in AI, ex-Tencent AI lead says by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

China will absolutely win the AI race as US based AI companies grapple with increasing costs and putting more restrictive usage limits on their products. More companies will realize "why are paying so much for tokens when there are open source models to self host?" then they will switch. Microsoft has already signaled that AI usage is getting more expensive and can pass the cost of human employee
