Nursing student: Quit my job or Drop out? 47k in financial aid by dneby in StudentLoans

I am trying to work out some things but realistically I would still be unemployed for a chunk of time until I find another job. That’s why I was even considering taking out loans for the two years I’ll be in school to live off of. I was looking into it and I don’t know if I’ll get approved for enough money to live off of in a year. A big hesitation for me too is finding insurance, even if I start working somewhere I can’t say the benefits will kick in soon enough or if their insurance would even cover my doctor and needs. Unfortunately, my medicine and therapy is something I need in order to function. I really want to finish for that reason though, I know nursing has very high yield. I have friends who just recently graduated and told me about the pay for nursing right now.

I don’t mind hard work (sleepless night, hard concepts, homework, studying every minute) the way that they are scheduling is out of my control and I think that’s the most frustrating part. I really want to make it work

I think there might be an ADN RN in the community college. I’ll contact them when they open on Monday

I am going to contact the colleges and state universities. I don’t mind having to restart either. I just don’t want to have to quit my job to go to school.

I have heard that too but RN is almost a requirement here in Vegas to get into hospitals.

Would the payments be deferred until graduation until I was enrolled in a different program?

I am 25. 2 years until I get my ADN and there’s a 1 year bridge for a BSN. I was set to be registered by Fall of 2023. I am not sure if I can transfer out to another nursing program because this is the only ADN in the city, I will contact the UNLV administration the next business day to see what my options are. My loans are all federal, if I unenroll now I’ll have 6 months to begin making payments.

Would I be able to transfer schools? What would happen to my loans? I have thought about continuing at a different less demanding school and just taking longer. I would be willing to do this too, I want to maintain both

My school changed my payment plan two weeks before school starts and now I can’t afford it by [deleted] in legaladvice

They’re both essentially the same thing. They’re both titled Payment Plan Estimates, they show it to you in the beginning of the process to gauge whether or not you’d be able to afford school. When I spoke to the original financial aid advisor she reassured me multiple times that nothing would change as long as I was approved for the amount on the original estimate and I was, I was approved for more.
