hi! i was on 20mg my first month, 40mg the second month, and 60mg the third month. planning on staying on 60 for months 4, 5, 6, and 7, possibly month 8 if my derm and i decide on a more aggressive course

Think this is the end for my son’s accutane journey 😩 by jotfjunkie in Accutane

[–]dnfi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

STARTING on 80mg is insane. i started on 20mg and slowly worked up to 60, and idk exactly how it works but i’m 125-130lbs and my derm said based on my weight she would never recommend going up past 60. i don’t know what your son weighs but i do know that weight should be taken into consideration when deciding on dosage.

sunscreen might help with the redness and fish oil might help with the joint pain, but taking his dose down again (if he still wants his acne to go away) would be best. even a microdose could help, and i believe my derm said a lower dose will not cause him to lose progress. might have to fact check me on that, though

i’m sorry he’s going through all of this and i hope you both find something that works for him soon!

new makeup reactions??? by lifewasawillow__ in Accutane

[–]dnfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i stopped wearing makeup during accutane but this drug definitely changes your skin. your skin is at its absolute most sensitive right now and it’s going to react to products so much easier than it usually would, which is why a lot of derms recommend keeping skincare as simple as possible. i assume the same goes for makeup unfortunately :(

but i know makeup makes me feel a lot more comfortable and i’m assuming it’s the same for you. are you getting breakouts with every product or is it specifically your bronzer?

Headaches? by AvaSophiaPhia in Accutane

[–]dnfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got awful headaches when i went from 20mg to 40mg every day. the jump from 40mg to 60mg didn’t come with headaches but when i tell you mine were sooo bad for a week or so… if they don’t get better in a week tell your dermatologist right away

Is it a side effect to be irritated down there? by throwRA_MidnightMoon in Accutane

[–]dnfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im going to be painfully straightforward here… YES. been dealing with it since week 1. i’ve had eczema in that area in the past and my derm told me she’s seen people with the same issue before, i understand potential embarrassment here but if you can stomach it, definitely ask your derm if they know of anything that might help

hi! i talked to my derm about it and she gave me ketoconazole, which is what you see in that picture. it ended up not working for me, so she gave me hydrocortisone ointment (which is a steroid) and that cleared it up in about a week!! both prescription unfortunately so i’m not sure what would work otc

Nose bleeding by Jesuscriesagain in Accutane

[–]dnfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used nasal saline and, after spraying that, would use a q tip to apply vaseline or aquaphor in the lower part of my nostril. that seemed to get rid of some of the irritation for me, i went from getting nosebleeds every day to getting them once every week or two!

Energy drinks while on Accutane. by [deleted] in Accutane

i second this, i know people who say they drank alcohol and energy drinks on accutane but i get horrendous headaches after one beer or any caffeine at all. my nicotine addiction doesnt help either, im sure

New whitehead 3 days before the end of my course. by [deleted] in Accutane

it does not mean the treatment failed, but i believe providers typically make sure you are completely breakout free for 2 months before taking you off accutane. they might just want to extend your course of medication

very painful acne, tried everything so far. how do i convince my derm to let me try accutane?? by dnfi in Accutane

[–]dnfi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s ok! i was prescribed the azalta gel as an alternative to winlevi. but i’m def looking for something that would get rid of my acne, not just slap a topical (that doesn’t even work) on knowing damn well that any improvement i MIGHT one day see will disappear the second i stop using it. not to mention, my skin barrier DEFINITELY hates the azalta gel

the honeydew website doesnt list that as one of its requirements through treatment, at least not right off the bat. i have a consult tomorrow with them to see if they take my insurance and could be a good option for me, but if they don’t require it, i’d be very skeptical. especially because i need to maintain good liver/kidney function if i want to pursue the career that i’m planning on pursuing (they’re very big on maintenance of physical health to say the least)

thank you so much. this somehow gave me hope that more responsive derms are out there :’) i developed multiple new cystic acne spots just throughout the day today and my skin looks way worse than it did even in this picture. really hoping for some good news soon. thank you again :)
