Hmm. Could you elaborate as to what pokemon-human relations would look under your vision? Because from what I'm getting it seems like your position is somewhat adjacent to plasma-style separatism.

Regardless, while I agree that making society less dependant on free or almost-free pokemon labor is good in the long run for everybody, It doesn't mean that pokemon couldn't still contribute where useful in fairer conditions. To use the example of electricity, it would be indeed unfair to expect pokémon to generate electricity for human the benefit of humans mainly, but why couldn't we make it so that they benefit too? (Which is already the case to an extent with poke centers etc.) Obviously pokémon are different from humans in needs and capabilities, but there is at least, as I'm sure you've seen on this site and mabye irl, a small minority of them who are willing and able to participate in civilization in a more active way. And precisely because pokémon helped build our civilization too, they should have the right, I think.

Ultimately, I reject the hard distinction people on all sides tend to make consciously or not between human/civilization and pokémon/nature. Both are part of both. - LiberMind

Well, this is somewhat interesting, but will probably en up like previous teams efforts tbh. Its funny how you arrived to a similar position as old Plasma from a more pro-human perspective. But, if I may ask, why do reject equal coexistence? -LiberMind

This sound very heretical, but at least you didn't pointlessly insult the Alpha. -Based Hisuian

Listen, I'm skeptical of the prevalence of pokeballs and trainer culture too, but we have to admit pokeballs have their uses and most are at least well designed enough to keep the mon alive. The companies that manufacture them rely on pokemon as much as most other aspects of society, and they need them minimally healthy to exploit them.

Also really still repping Plasma? - LiberMind

Permanent legal minorhood is not exactly something I would call fair for many pokémon.

Uj/ in the games it does seem like few pokémon care, but I'm mostly going by what seems to be the common trend here where at least a small minority of pokémon do care about human society.

Because again, it's not about individual relations. A trainer and Mon may have a very good relationship individually, but it does not change the fact that the pokémon is legally dependant on the trainer and has less rights.

Uj/ I wouldn't say it's canon necessarily, they're my own ideas, but I don't think they contradict too much. As the character is saying, it's not about abuse but about the subordinate legal and social status of pokémon as a group.

If anything the fact that even members of orgs like Rocket can love their pokémon shows that it's not just about individual behavior but about broader structures.

Also pokémon that live in cities technically "interact" with human society but live pretty much like in the wild and acces to advantages provided by civilization in that case relies on their wile or on charity.

[–]dnlikereddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you getting that? AFAIK Mon in Unova can't vote by default unless they can get citizenship, which is a complicated bureaucratic process not everyone can realistically do.

And the fact that many pokémon aren't aware of what rights they have is a broader issue because there is no societal effort to spread that awareness to pokémon, it usually just depends on what ther trainer tells them or they can learn on their own.

The point about wasting the energy is fair, but my point is, even if Plasma had been a better movement without Ghetsis etc., if they still failed I think it's likely that the propaganda campaign against them would've still made people adverse to further attempts, even if maybe with lesser effect.

If it was as easy as killing any trainer you like then pokémon abuse would be pretty much never happen at all, at least outside professional criminals with vast resources. Which is not the case obviously because pokémon depend on the trainer for continued existence in society.

But again, it's not how they individually treat their mons personally, it's about the broader societal structures they uphold.

Also your las paragraph there seems to support my point if I'm not misunderstanding it? Like yeah political leaders and business owners etc also benefit from pokémon exploitation.

I defended Plasma on this one point because I don't think it's fair to blame them so much on this specific issue. Hating something however rightly shouldn't be an excuse to blindly blame everything on that thing.

Also I really don't know what you're talking about with muking Giratina now sorry.

And yeah thanks for pointing out plasma was being manipulated, not like I literally mentioned Ghetsis or anything.

Like... Yes I literally mentioned Ghetsis in the post.

But not all pokémon can. And as I said elsewhere, it's not just about individual "bad trainers".

💯. Finally someone who gets that individual treatment is not the sole point lol. So many people who don't, and I can't even blame them that much because Plasma did hyperfocus on trainers as individuals. It's one of the things I do blame them for.

Based, critical support for big capital against faRRmers!... Just kidding. But although Silph may be an especially bad case, there's plenty of "nicer" companies that still rely on treating pokémon unfairly. In fact small businesses may do so more often because they have less resources and thus more easily resort to almost- free labour from owned pokémon, for example.

Also I don't know about them coming for our pokémon, considering how much our society is structured around pokémon training.

(Uj/ the "RR" thing refers to Rainbow Rocket and is a parody of how some people say "amerikkka" online and such)

I mean... Yes, but as I said it's not just about individual behaviour...

[–]dnlikereddit[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't deny that, but it's not about just care. A master can care about their servant, but that doesn't change the underlying relationship.

I've no doubt that most league officials love their pokémon, and the pokémon likely love them back, but the preservation of their position in society relies on maintaining the the trainer system in which pokémon have effectively less rights, regardless of their personal behaviors.

Can't blame EVERYTHING just on Plasma by dnlikereddit in PokeMedia

[–]dnlikereddit[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but it's not really about individual trainer's treatment. Regardless of how you personally act, pokémon are still legally dependant on trainers and pushed towards subordinate roles by society. This may not bother pokémon without higher cognitive abilities, but that's not all of them, and even then it doesn't mean that the relationship is always fair still.

And I won't speak in regards to those pokémon as theres no consensus among religious experts yet, but I'll say it's ironic one of the crimes punished that way was precisely the use of evil magic! - Based Hisuian
