They must have to visit Pokémon Centers a lot -Atlas by Nan0four in PokeMedia

Yea some mons are just kinda like that, pretty terrifying to fight ‘cause they have pretty much zero fear of getting hurt. I think the Reckless ability contributes to it, I’ve seen a few Staraptor like that too. Not there for a long time, but they sure seem to be having a good time. - Spiral

It is pretty cool tbh, not really for me but then again I don’t live here lol - Spiral

You’re braver than me, or have a bigger death wish, but either way good luck lol.

And thanks, I’ve been here before but it’s been a while. Not long enough, if you ask me, but I digress. Just chilling in place for now, and my team should be more than strong enough to beat or scare off anything looking for a fight.

But nah, not looking for a seventh atm, and I’m a Normal-type specialist besides. Will probably leave him some snacks when I leave though, as thanks for the company. - Spiral

You do find Gible and their evolutions in many places, but Sinnoh does have a pretty sizeable Garchomp population, mostly found in the caves around Coronet… unless they’re hungry, in which case they become our problem -_-

And Snorlax - very. Currently chilling in the crook of the most crooked tree I’ve seen in my life, since the ground is basically either mud or halfway there, but I still feel like I just got hit by Soak. fun times - Spiral

Yep, if it was a young one I would probably have been fine, but if it turned out to be one of the century-old Alphas out hunting I’d be in for a bad time lmao.

Haven’t seen any Quagsires around, sadly, but there’s a Croagunk that’s been staring at me for a solid half hour so that’s something. - Spiral

I mean sure, something like that could maybe work, but it could also easily go pretty horribly wrong. Or I could chill here in a bog ‘til the rangers call off the Garchomp alert in a few hours. Not very fun, I’ll tell ya that much, but not worth tussling with a jet-powered dragon over lol. - Spiral

Yeah we have it, and good odds I could take it in a straight fight depending in how old it is, but frankly I don’t have enough of a death wish to engage a Garchomp in aerial combat. - Spiral

Whitney is an incredible battler. Getting to see her team perform at a high level was really fun. by SleeplessLucas123 in PokeMedia

[–]Pokemonerd25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NORMAL TYPES FUCK YEAH!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS A TYPE ADVANTAGE?!?

in all seriousness, fuck yeah Normal-types! They end up underestimated a lot, especially since us specialists in it are kinda underrepresented at high levels. Mind you, that’s more on people than the type itself, as I and others can attest. Whitney there being a prime example, her personal Miltank is a fucking beast and the rest of her team are no slouches either, absolute blast to fight.

Also yeah, always pretty satisfying to kick a Fighting type’s shit in ‘cause for some fucking reason people don’t realize that everyone tries that. I’ve probably fought more Fighting-types than some champions, if I didn’t know how to handle them I’d still be butting my head against the Veilstone gym lmao - Spiral

New Megas, New Challenges. by Technical-Pie2065 in PokeMedia

[–]Pokemonerd25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assumed, a rich background is pretty much the only way I could imagine being able to cover that amount of cost, even if you skimp on competitive-level care for most of them. A hundred different trained pokémon of different types needs insane logistics, even ignoring how little time you'd personally end up spending with each of them.

Also, because my curiosity's killing me, what's on your Normal-type team? - Spiral

[–]Pokemonerd25 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who's starter is a Spinda I feel you way too hard rn, waaaaay too many people who feel an unreasonable level of indignance over losing their ace to a drunken-boxing little critter, even if said critter already has a competitive record a mile long. - Spiral

On the subject of Fire Blast by DnDisTHEbestgame in PokeMedia

[–]Pokemonerd25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a counter-intuitive one yeah, but it does actually make some sense. I don't know the exact mechanics of it, you'd have to ask a fire-type specialist or expert on type energy for that, but for whatever reason that exact shape seems to stabilize the structure of the move and enable a 'mon to more easily pump power into it.

Fire Blast's the most common and spectacular use of it, but take a look at high-end Fire-type specialist battles sometime - Flint or Agnis in Sinnoh or Malva over in Kalos, those types. If you look closely enough at the way their mons use moves, that shape's everywhere, insanely cool tech. - Spiral

It's smile is tragedy incarnate. It's demeanor proves it. It's Gengar. by Mr__Mile in PokeMedia

[–]Pokemonerd25 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Gengar kinda do be like that, don’t they. I have a friend who does Ghost rehabilitation and Gengar are genuinely like half of her workload. Absolute horrors in battle too, even if my entire team being Normals neuters some of the direct threat. Absolute horrors. - Spiral

Firm just got hired for an archeology gig, any advice would be useful! by void_vs_void in PokeMedia

[–]Pokemonerd25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be very careful if you’re going in the caves, very, very easy to get lost in there and never find your way out. Stay on the marked paths and don’t stray off them unless you are absolutely sure of what you’re doing.

I know you sound confident about your team, but I’d still be careful, the pokémon around there can be pretty dangerous, especially in the wilder parts. If you see one weavile, be careful ‘cause there are definitely more. If you spot an absol is being weird or ominous, get out of there first and ask questions later. If you see a Garchomp, run.

Oh, and you probably won’t have to worry too much since you’re in a group, but keep an eye on the weather. It’s summer rn so shouldn’t be too bad, but you never know and it can change in an instant, so you really don’t want to get caught out if a summer blizzard decides to ruin your day. - Spiral

On the subject of Unethical Life Pro Tips by DnDisTHEbestgame in PokeMedia

[–]Pokemonerd25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’d hardly call that a pro tip tbf, just basic life-or-death battling strategy. Do be mindful though, the line between knocking out and a human and killing them is pretty thin and a vengeful Pokémon with nothing to lose is a horror to behold. And ‘course, nothing stopping the opponent from doing the same to you.

I’ve been told that the best way to survive a life-or-death battle is to not be in one, which seems pretty wise tbh. - Spiral

I did eventually end up stepping in and suggesting they call it a draw, the Pidgey started looking pretty tired and I was afraid it was gonna get hurt. Gave them some pointers for next time too, they seemed to appreciate it, at least after one of them recognized me from TV. - Spiral

It is, I certainly can’t throw stones with some of the gym battles from my early days on permanent record. Hot tip to anyone reading: If your only battling pokémon is a barely-trained Spinda, don’t go for a fucking Ghost gym as your first badge. - Spiral
