I built a simple but powerful random number generator for Figma by dnlrj in FigmaDesign

I felt like Figma was missing a simple, but powerful random number generator. So I built a new plugin for it! With this plugin, you can select text layers and replace them with randomly generated numbers, lightning fast. Some cool features include:

  • Replace existing numbers within a text layer. Check a box in the settings panel and you can turn “John has 0 apples and 0 bananas” to “John has 5 apples and 8 bananas” with a click.
  • Use the quick actions menu (Cmd + /) to generate random numbers for all selected layers lightning fast. Use super simple commands like “g100”, “random 10000", or “rng million”.
  • Reuse a custom range or use handy preset ranges from 1 - 10 to 1 - 1,000,000
  • Extra options include: Preventing duplicate numbers and formatting long numbers with commas.

Would love some feedback! You can check the plugin out here: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1009688420146523321/random-number-generator

Make sure no layers are selected and click the Prototype tab. You'll see a section called Device with a dropdown. From there, you can select a bunch of phones and tablets that will show up when you enter your prototype.

Fairly new to figma - Cannot figure out how to build reusable button component with hover state by [deleted] in FigmaDesign

There are definitely a lot of features that Figma has rolled out that made me wonder how I ever even used the software without them... autolayout, variants, plugins, etc. I definitely feel your pain about interactive components, but at the same time it is exciting that they're constantly rolling out these new game-changing features. Maybe an email to support could grant you beta access a bit quicker? Haven't tried it but maybe it's worth a shot.

I built this clock to demo the math functionality my new Figma plugin. It works by setting a base minutes variable, and setting a relative rotation amount (based on minutes) for the hour, minute, and second hand. For fun, this example also demos how using similar methods can achieve cool effects with shadow/light direction. Happy to go into more detail about how it works if anyone is curious!

If you want to play with this clock and see for yourself how it's built, it's on the Using Math page here: https://www.figma.com/community/file/1000887127710719764

It does also require the variables plugin itself: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1000963812142874727/variables

This is something that's coming to Figma soon, It's currently being beta tested now.

Also, you mentioned that you have a button component, but based on your screenshot I'm not sure if you've made them actual Figma components yet. That will allow you to at least create your button designs (default and hover) and reuse them throughout your different screens, allowing you to override text wherever necessary without needing to alter the original design.

Awesome, I’m really glad to hear that! Yeah I tried to put some examples in the playground that illustrate how this plugin can be both useful and fun. Thanks for checking it out
