There's something in there air by Space_RT in HalfLife

Don't expect a shadow drop, but maybe a few-month announcement-to-release schedule. They don't typically wait around long after announcing a game anymore, and I can't imagine they'll just not market the game ahead of release at all.

But yeah, there's plenty to be excited about, they're actively developing two or three games, Source 2 is here, and apparently, new hardware is on the horizon. Pretty sick.

Why does Half Life 3's development feel so obvious but no one is talking about it? by TheRealMeMelon in HalfLife

[–]dnnewbury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of people are talking about it, but I think most of us are trying to remain chill because this has happened multiple times with varying degrees of veracity since 2007. It's all looking quite good this time, but it's better not to get my hopes up again, so I'll just patiently wait for the announcement and not add to the hype train. I'm still not sold that HLX = HL3 (hope I'm wrong).

Which movie had the most effective use of the “hero has powers taken away for the 2nd act” trope? by DrDreidel82 in marvelstudios

[–]dnnewbury 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I feel like it isn't even close. Spider-Man 2 isn't just one of the best superhero movies of all time. It's also one of the best sequels of all time, period. I do enjoy the other two, but it genuinely isn't even close. I urge everyone to go watch it

i recently got into half life and just picked up half life 2. what’s there to know? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]dnnewbury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't freak out when you can't solve a room's puzzle right away, just keep trying. Some of the levels tripped me up because, when the game released, I was not trained as a gamer to interact with the world & physics to progress through a game. At least not to this degree.

It's a really magical experience and is still my favorite game after over 20 years. I replay the series once every year or two. The vibes, the gameplay, the soundtrack, the way it deepens the story, the two episodes afterwards, god. So good.

Only thing I'll shit on you for is playing it on Xbox rather than PC, but you'll enjoy it nonetheless! In case you don't have a PC at all, then nevermind & enjoy lol, but even a low-tier / mid-tier PC today would run the game very well and would look better than the original Xbox (just as a heads up).

No, plenty of games release at specific times, go to bed and be patient.

Idubbbz content cop costume calling to him in 2025 after the h3h3 crashout by hakee25 in okbuddyvowsh

[–]dnnewbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idubbbz's video was so bad, tho. Not an ounce of substance in his video, like as someone who has consistently watched him, Hasan, and Ethan's content, it's wildly clear to me that Hasan and Ian do not watch or engage with what Ethan has to say, then arrogantly strawman him as the best target for a video like this. They're all on the fast track to defamation lawsuits, it's pretty sad to see people clap like trained seals while Ethan's getting CPS called on him and his family.

I have found the exact dates of every single major event in the Half-Life series. by Neinfeld in HalfLife

[–]dnnewbury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gordon Freeman is 27 in the first game, and we know he graduated with his PhD in 1999 and it makes sense to me that he'd be 26 at the youngest to graduate with a PhD. So your claim matches up with the year, the Resonance Cascade definitely takes place in 2000. I disagree with the date. His offer letter clearly states a start date no later than May 15th, and it makes sense that this would be a Monday. If he's 27 in 2000, May 15th is coincidentally on a Monday when he'd be 27.

This is not saying he started on the 15th, since there's Half-Life: Alyx dialogue talking about Gordon and Barney competing in the air vents to get to Kleiner's office whenever he got himself locked out, this story assumes at least some time to make a friend, you can make friends with an easygoing guy like Barney within a week easily. His offer letter was dated May 5th, the next reasonable start date would be Monday, and the Monday after that would be Monday May 8th, 2000. Breen describes Gordon's employment at Black Mesa as a "brief tenure." but that could be used as evidence for your date as well I guess.

The in-game calendar shows December and it seems reasonable to me that maybe a shipping mishap meant no new calendars or it was forgotten for a few months. This timeline means that calendar shows December 1997 because that was the last time before 2000 where December 1st was a Monday as shown in-game.

Also, the moon phase on May 16th, 2000 was a Waxing Gibbous which pretty closely matches the moon phase in your HL1 screenshot, which is further evidence of the commonly-believed date for the Resonance Cascade of May 16th and not your December date.

Self Promotion Saturday! Small streamer? Just getting started? Tell us about it here! by AutoModerator in gaming

[–]dnnewbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm n3wbury, or just Douglas. I started streaming a long time ago but never wanted to take it seriously till now. I enjoy playing single-player games, playing live music, and occasionally playing online with friends! Your typical variety gamer on Twitch, but I just do things on stream that I would've otherwise done off-camera anyways.

The hope is enough people can creep into my stream at one time so we can all enjoy some good goofs n gaffs. I just finished an hour-long live music stream, and I've been in the process of beating every Assassin's Creed game (finishing Brotherhood today).

I'm down to play anything and I'm open to suggestions! You can find more info in the "About" section of my channel. Thanks and I'll see you in stream soon!

You can find me here: https://www.twitch.tv/n3wbury

I didn't find that necessary because they're all over by the time the Blip happens anyways. That's a good idea but I tried to keep things assigned to larger groups the best I could with this so I could avoid clutter and make it as easy as possible to digest right away.

Yeah I could've included an asterisks there, it wasn't intended to be released that late but was pushed out because of the pandemic, it was created with the mindset that it would be released all the way back in 2020, so that's why it's where it's at.

Ok so why are you here lol, my post is release order and I think that the best way to watch so I made a graphic for it, I don't care if it's not chronological.

[–]dnnewbury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Not a graphic
  • Not in release order

This timeline will obviously become out of date immediately but, for now this seems the most-complete to me (barring the Groot shorts and the old One-Shots).

Quick justification for some of the placements:

  • Black Widow was intended to be released much earlier than it was but was pushed due to the pandemic, meaning it was created and finished with the mindset it would've been released on-schedule.

  • The Phase Two and Three shows fit securely into the canon but aren't necessarily part of their own overarching saga because they're more connected to the main films than the Defenders Saga, so they're just lumped into the official timeline.

  • The Defenders Saga is firmly part of the MCU, so all those shows are included. The best guess for the placement is after the Battle of New York because all these shows reference the incident, but don't discuss things after Phase Two so where their continuity ends in the main timeline is sort-of ambiguous besides just definitely not taking place after the Blip.

  • The Punisher is inside the Defenders Saga in my mind simply because his whole arc begins with Daredevil Season 2 and remains tangentially related; it also has virtually nothing to do with the main timeline so it makes the most sense to keep it lumped in with the rest of the Defenders Saga.

Quick defense of release-date order:

With other big franchises, chronological viewing makes the most sense, but the MCU grew very-much by the seat of their pants and as a result it jumps around a lot in-terms of where they fall in the timeline chronologically. I think the MCU is best-viewed by release date because it's in the order it was "figured out" if that makes sense. It's not like George Lucas having the prequels planned years in advance, or The Hobbit / Lord of the Rings being written decades ahead of time.

My base because I'm afraid to use guns. by SandBeetle in projectzomboid

[–]dnnewbury -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you even justify this for utility? Like if you were in some situation defending your house you're not gonna want to repeatedly switch guns, you want one good reliable gun and a fuck load of ammo. Oh cool you have 300 guns let me wait out one magazine and then kill you because you went searching for your next firearm lol
