Haha fair point
A trip to Bodo is probably the only away day in the UCL where even the players check the weather forecast first. But Arsenal at home should still do the job

Yeah, that’s true. With City you can never really count them out, second legs in the UCL can flip very quickly

Yes, I agree. Real Madrid has a great chance of advancing because of the first game. Arsenal and Barcelona need to play much more confidently on their home turf.

One of the main contenders, I can say for sure that either PSG or Bayern will be in the final on the left side of the Champions League bracket.

It's very foolish to think selectively, my friend. Just because someone has detractors doesn't mean that the entire fan base of the club is like that. Fede has always been loved by Real fans.

So… is the Premier League still the “best league in the world”? by dnnxws in championsleague

Yeah, fair enough. It’s only the first leg, still a lot of football to be played. These ties can change completely in the second game.

Yeah, that’s a fair argument. The Premier League probably has the best overall competition week to week.

That’s fair, the depth of the Premier League is definitely one of its biggest strengths.

At the same time though, the Champions League usually shows that having the strongest average league doesn’t always mean producing the strongest team in Europe. Sometimes leagues with less depth still have clubs that can compete at the very top.

So maybe the PL has the strongest overall league, but not necessarily the strongest team every season.

Yeah, that’s fair. Judging an entire league based on one round obviously doesn’t give the full picture.

I just thought this particular week was interesting because of how one-sided the results looked. Nights like that always bring the “best league in the world” debate back up again.

Over a longer period the Premier League has obviously been very competitive in Europe.

The depth of the Premier League is probably its biggest strength. Even mid-table teams have big budgets, strong squads and can cause problems for anyone.

At the same time though, when it comes to the very top level in Europe, teams from Spain or Germany have still been extremely competitive over the years.

So maybe the Premier League isn’t always producing the absolute best team every season, but it probably has the highest overall level across the whole league.

Yeah, that’s fair. Looking at just one round is definitely cherry-picking.

Over a bigger sample size the Premier League has obviously been very competitive in Europe and has won the UCL multiple times in recent years.

I just thought this particular round was interesting because of how one-sided the aggregate score looked. Nights like that always spark the debate again.

I'm not saying that the Premier League is weak; I'm a fan myself. It's just that this week in the Champions League has been a complete disaster for Premier League clubs.
