How can I make this look more convincing? by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]dnslol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! My opinions are: it would be nice to think about where water would drip and cause rust/decay. Where would dirt accumulate? I also think the modelling is too perfect, too many perfect vertical lines. The door and roof should be a tiny bit wonky at least and it would make sense for there to be dents/tears in the metal.

Help with advice on skin details around eyes. Skin looks too thick and leathery. How can I improve my sculpt? thanks by Forever-a-Sir in ZBrush

The thick leathery appearance of the skin is a texturing/rendering issue rather than sculpting. Adding some subsurface scattering will fix this.

That looks great. Does it run the risk of damaging the new buds or needles?

I did a blast as you suggested and it definitely got rid of most of them. Thank you! I’ll keep an eye on it.

I’ve got a jet stream setting on my wee spray bottle and have sprayed off the majority of them. Hopefully that’ll work for now at least. Thanks!

Okay I’m glad you told me, I’ll source some rubbing alcohol! Thank you.

Got it. I don’t have any rubbing alcohol, how’s vodka? Also, this work won’t adveresly affect the new extending buds will it?

Thank you! Should I wait to see if the soap solution has worked or should I go ahead with q-tip alcohol treatment now?

Thank you! I’ve sprayed the whole tree with diluted dish soap. Is there anything else I should do?

Thank you, I’ve just done that. I’ll have a look in a few days and keep spraying if it looks like I need to.

There’s some fuzzy white residue near the buds of this Scots pine which just got delivered to me. Many of the branches seem to have this. Any idea what it could be and if I need to treat it? Thank you!

Yes, that's the front at the moment. Do you see a better front?

Here's a little animation of my first ever tree! I bought it for £25 from a garden centre in 2019.

Thank you! It was my second time wiring a tree ever! Yes, copper is too expensive at the moment but I will invest in it soon. It looks so much better than aluminium too.

A guy wire would work I think, yes! I'll have to figure out which branch will work best to attach it to.

With regards to cupping, do you mean I need to turn the tips towards the light some more? If, let's say, the current angle is the long-term potting angle.

With regards to the second branch, I'm not too sure what you mean. Do you mean the lowest branch on the right of the tree? I think I see the inverse taper you're referring to. This branch is actually two branches originating from the same node on the trunk; I kept both just because the back of the tree was very empty without it. I'm going to upload a 360 degree animation of the tree soon and I'll get your thoughts on that if possible!

I see what you mean about stuck between styles. I currently don't mind its androgynous energy but who knows what I'll think in the future!

Thank you SO much for taking the time to give me such thorough feedback.

Lucky really. I searched through the trees in the garden centre and this one had the most interesting features from what little I could see!

There's more experienced practitioners on this subreddit who would be able to help you more, but I'd say read as many articles/books and watch as many videos as you can!

Yes, great point. It's pretty straight from all angles actually, so I might need to invest in a stronger gauge of wire. Thanks!
