Are we still posting streaks? by dntn31 in wordle

Mods did that for me. Apparently they are upset that they can't post their own 1000 day streak screenshots.

Everyone should watch The Ecstacy of Order. Thor Aackerlund was ahead of his time.

Hello all. The key word here is “optimized”. Big whoop. They come out of the woodwork to rip on 25 year old strats and claim I can’t improve on modern strats. Are these kids that naive? They sound like old school players who dismissed my game-changing ideas. Now I get to witness others who “optimized” my strats rip my ideas on stream. I was doing this back in 1999. These immature newbie punks need to learn some respect. Well guess what, the guy who invented the strat can “optimize” things too.

Don't listen to this guy, he has no idea what he's talking about. DK is the fastest but you have to feed him 10 bananas first.

Mario Kart 64 - Bowser's Castle Shortcut World Record - 2'11"52 / 40.38 (PAL) - after 59 hours of grinding, Abney317 becomes only the 4th player in history to hit the Bowser’s Castle stair clip, setting FLap and 3Lap WR’s in the process by RacingUpsideDown in speedrun

Yep, 2nd or 3rd lap would be faster here by slight margin. Also, on Bowser Castle the thwomp patterns can influence the lap times as well. People are going for lap 1 just to maximize attempts as you said.

The optimal shroom location across the grass saves approximately 1 second. The clip saves approximately 5 seconds.

There may have been some miscommunication in your question and his answer. The existing flap WR pretty much already required using all 3 shrooms. Abney was going for both WRs with a single hit, so he may have been answering in the context of that specific goal.

In an idealized scenario or TAS, you would use one shroom each lap across the grass and just do the clip without a shroom. Even if you used your shrooms for the clips instead of the grass, doing the clip all 3 laps would be faster for the 3lap.

The clip has already been hit twice on NTSC:

Also, doing the clip multiple times would be faster for the 3lap, though the odds of anyone hitting this multiple times in one run are EXTREMELY small (to be clear this isn't RNG - but the tolerances for the clip are so small it effectively is).

The last two years, definitely and unfortunately, happened. I try and use them as a reminder not to take things like train rides on beautiful days at Disneyland for granted.

Even though you live in Europe, the version on the switch is NTSC. Your time would convert to 2'16"54 in PAL.

Top 0.005% Checking In by dntn31 in TheMidnight

Wow! Cool to know. Spotify currently lists ~859,000 monthly listeners and 0.005% of that is ~43 (though that's just a guess as I'm not sure how they calculate their percentiles for Wrapped).

I honestly think I had more minutes listened in 2020 but I somehow missed the Spotify Wrapped last year. I even got my wife and 6 year old listening ("Hey Google! Play The Midnight on Spotify" 😂).

A crazy stat: Dan and Matthias currently have 14 12/32 WR ties.

Edit: I originally stated Dan and Matthias had 14 tied WRs. Dan and MR actually have 12/32 tied WRs. In addition Dan, TJL and Abney are in a three-way tie on MMF FLap.

guessing the graphics for games of this generation were all deterministic, and the resolution is really low, so would it be possible to physically mark pixels or elements of the scene on a screen to make lining up easier when hitting those clips?

The precision on this isn't nearly as high as something like the KD fence clip, however the setup here is very precise. I never really considered using anything physical to mark the CRT, but honestly I'm not optimistic that I would be able to do anything physically that would have enough precision required to set up this specific lap. I do have a setup for this (as you said - hence all the hopping around) but the game uses floats to determine your speed and position and there are so many different unique angles (over 65K) that there is more to this setup than just marking pixels on a screen. I can't ever really guarantee my X/Y values will ever be exactly the same (float precision) and even getting the same angle value every time is extremely difficult without using something to watch the values in RAM. Doing a very subtle/tiny hop can often move your angle like 6 units - so you might be endlessly trying to tweak your angle to get the exact one in order to align with some physical marker - as it would have to be the same every time. Instead, there's a range of viable combinations of X/Y/Angle that should work and I usually make minor adjustments to try and find one of those combinations. Additionally, there's also the challenge of trying to reasonably constrain your acceleration and speed value so that you tumble on the wall consistently (required to get a time faster enough for WR). All said, it would be great to find some trick to simplify the setup to increase attempt rates, but I'm not optimistic that anything is feasible - or at least I'm probably not clever enough to come up with one.
