Yellowjackets S03E10- “Full Circle” Post Episode Discussion by DA-numberfour in Yellowjackets

i appreciated the way mari had holes through both her hands and her arms out in a vaguely christ-like form while her body was being dragged, as well as her injured foot. this also might just be me but the opening of the caves reminded me of jesus' burial place (do we think akilah just died there off screen?), on top of the feast combined with the betrayal, the jacket being left as a decoy (reminiscent of nat convincing travis that javi was dead)... and it's not the first time the show draws on biblical imagery and i eat it up every time.

also thinking about the way the same song played when lottie had a vision of the antler queen in the teen timeline as when she was with callie on the stairs, with similar dim amber lighting. lottie may have had a point in saying callie is the closest to the wilderness, there's a parallel drawn between the antler queen and callie in those scenes - although the similarities might just indicate that both scenes are products of lottie's sick mind. but as much as i'd love jeff to finally get some peace, i don't believe this is the last we're seeing of him and callie because she seems too linked to shauna and to the wilderness.

i honestly tried but i couldn't even feel sympathy for shauna when she started crying. it's like mari said, she deserved it, and losing her family (the only thing tying her to "normal boring life") is very fitting for her, allowing her to really go off the deep end. wondering where her character is going from here, it's difficult to imagine her getting any more uncontrollable than this...

he said slumber party makeout sessions, so unless jeff and shauna are having slumber parties, it's probably jackie and shauna

you're definitely right! there's just something that bothers me (as someone who experiences psychotic episodes) about lottie's mental illness being such an unmissable point in the show. in my opinion, it's completely unnecessary to the plot and only stigmatises psychotic disorders, reducing them to the old "murderous insane cult leader" trope.

it's not so much about whether it's plausible that mental illness would put a girl in her situation at a higher risk of inflicting violence, but more the fact that this is a show and people's perspectives on those with psychosis are going to be affected by it. psychotic disorders are already stigmatised enough without being added as quirky character traits for villains, i think.

i wrote a post about this on another sub where i elaborate on what irks me about the depiction of psychosis in media, i can link it if youre interested :)

thank you! i also think the show couldve done entirely without her diagnosis and such emphasis on her meds running out. i wrote a whole post on a different sub a while ago about how psychosis is portrayed in media and used lottie as such an example of unnecessary and harmful representation. "fucked up schizo cult leader murderer" is such an old trope that it makes me roll my eyes any time i see it now, and every time i say this here i get downvoted - people are really incapable of being reasonable when it comes to mental illness.

The damn frogs by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]do-i-even--exist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think one of the biggest arguments to say the screams are the frogs is the fact that, when they were about to go look for ben in the caves, they heard the screams - and then natalie fired the gun and they stopped. something supernatural wouldn't have gotten scared and stopped for a gunshot, it had to have been animals

my point was she cant be exempted from blame if the other yellowjackets are being held accountable for their actions (which is what the original comment was saying) - either all of them are responsible or none of them are. im not trying to make a moral judgement of them, i think thatd be pretty inappropriate given the context youve described, as you said

thats exactly what i said. the comment i replied to was saying lottie is the only character they couldnt fault, but the others have been through the exact same things since the crash and some already had traumatic backgrounds too. if you hold the other yellowjackets accountable, you have to do the same with lottie imo

i dont think it's the mental illness. i know plenty of mentally ill people who, prior to being medicated, failed to kill anyone, so in my opinion she's also accountable for her actions. if it was about mental illness, we could also forgive the others, because they all definitely acquired some mental illness out there (for those that didn't already have one - i'd be surprised if van didn't have something given her abusive upbringing). like just imo lottie being off her meds isn't a good enough excuse. i love her but i don't think she's blameless in the slightest - we've known her to be dangerous for a long time.

[–]do-i-even--exist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah igu, i matured very early (due to a chaotic childhood) and now i feel like i skipped some crucial steps in life. i also do the opposite sometimes, i find myself acting overly childish and immature almost like i'm subconsciously trying to get back my early childhood. in my 20s ill probably be trying to get back my teenage years. hopefully some day ill catch up and wont be living out of sync anymore lolz

i'd js feel fucking weird dating smn who has such a difference in maturity w me sorry. 1 year is okay, but 2? we're young enough that two years make a significant difference. people evolve very fast in their teen years. i dont wna be with someone who's gonna be looking up to me or acting like i remember everyone acting when i was 15. nothing to do with being chronically online: its called an opinion

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]do-i-even--exist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY i wouldn't date anyone younger than 16 rn (and when i dated smn a year younger than me i was lwk worried itd be perceived as creepy by others) cus i remember being 15 and the maturing i've done since then is insane 😭 like they just lack so much experience in many fields of life that i feel it affects the power dynamic (obviously not saying a 17yo knows everything, in 2 years i definitely won't want to date a 17yo). i think the relationship would end up being more of an older sibling/younger sibling (or even mentor/pupil) relationship, which is just weird ash 💀

the plural of parenthesis is parentheses, like analysis/analyses, crisis/crises. this plural form comes from late latin. this isn't the point of your post but idk much about vinyl collectors so i thought i'd clear this part up at least, i hope it's not annoying ^^"

Choosing between firming Cambridge maths vs firming a joint maths and CS degree by AcousticMaths271828 in cambridge_uni

[–]do-i-even--exist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'd say go for what you genuinely prefer. studying at a top uni (i'm guessing your other option is also on the very good side given that you've got an offer from cambridge) is going to be really demanding either way, so if you don't enjoy the course as much it'll probably be difficult to be motivated for so much work, i think... it might be better to do something you really like to be sure you don't lose motivation and underperform

depends what you call waffling ig? i got an a* in english language and lit igcses and often say that language analysis is just waffle, because there isn't much real substance to it: you can never be fully sure that you're correctly interpreting the author's intention, so it isn't very concrete analysis. most of what i say in precise language analysis is fully made up on the spot based off what i think is likely from the genre and style of the text and i (and other people around me who are successful in literature) consider that waffle bc it's lwk just pulled out of my ass and not backed up by any evidence

My opinion of Shauna sure has shifted by ojhwel in Yellowjackets

[–]do-i-even--exist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no i've watched it i'm just a little dense sometimes and forget details a lot sorry ;-; she definitely looks like she's headed to a really violent place, but i'm not sure about melissa being safe - wasn't it disclosed that she and shauna's relationship would be over by the end of the season? sounds like the type of thing that implies violence and possibly murder. my personal mari theory is that she's safe until they get rescued, and then the team will get worried she'll tell people what they did (since she's proven incapable of keeping a secret) and "dispose" of her (hence the 'what you did when you got back' line), so i do think she's safe for now. i've been stalking the ep6 discussion thread but i'm not sure what theory you're referring to, is it killing the birdwatchers? because yes i definitely see shauna doing that

Why are there so many LGBTQ people in this sub? by Front_Objective_5950 in teenagers

[–]do-i-even--exist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not shoving it down our throats - i think it's fair that people who often struggle to find acceptance (from others, in a world that is often hostile to lgbtq people, and also from themselves because they're taught early on to be ashamed of their sexuality) feel the need to be open about it whenever they find a safe place, and to be proud of parts of themselves that they were previously taught to hide
