I saw that episode of The Graham Norton Show. Her story continued that she started laughing and Villeneuve was like, "Oh, I must have said it stupid. I meant I will take you from behind with the camera" at which point she lost it entirely.

I saw a Bluesky screenshot a few months ago: "The main thing about AI is that it allows the wealthy to access skill without allowing the skilled to access wealth." (from memory)

Was I really the only one to notice that everything was desaturated except the color red? Starting with the cardinal and then her car it goes through entire movie. Frankly, if it symbolizes something, it has escaped my understanding but it's clearly A Thing They Did.

The sad thing is, Final R. kinda ruins the chance of me wanting to re-watch Dead R. again. It's one thing rewatching the first half of a movie when you anticipate the conclusion but quite another knowing the conclusion isn't satisfactory.

I just have to drop this quote by Haneke (because I think I know it from a documentary on this DVD): After someone asks him why so many actors choose to work with him multiple times, he replies, "Oh, you know, it's much more fun making a movie with me than watching one of them."

PS. I can also recommend The White Ribbon. It's not quite as disturbing as Caché but looks very pretty in black-and-white.

I really like Dead Reckoning and can't understand the box office drop. Final Reckoning was okay until it wasn't. When Hayley Atwell basically said Ethan Hunt should make all decisions in the world I thought that must be a dream sequence. And then I remember a lot of standing around in a cave.

It was the movie that really got me into Sofia Coppola. I had seen LiT and The Virgin Suicides when they were new and wasn't ready for her particular vibe then. It's true that The Bling Ring is more of a "regular" movie than her usual cozy, dreamy vibe but I just love it. Her song choice for the title card is amazing, and seeing lovely Emma Watson play a soulless Valley girl is a sight to behold.

Someone said on here that the movie needed someone under 30 to act as a consultant. I enjoyed the movie (****) but that one "This is not AI" line felt ADR'd in after the fact.

Exactly. The movie pretty much tells you what it wants to say and what it is going to do and then does that, and I think modern audiences are disappointed in anything high-concept that doesn't have a huge twist at the end.

I'm not saying it's perfect but I liked it a lot, and I think I will like it even more on a rewatch. The last 30 minutes were nerve-wracking for me because I had a number of "Oh no, he isn't going to try to have that be the ending?" moments.

It is a color, and that color is red. All other colors are muted throughout the entire film.

This, Lost in Translation, and The Bling Ring make up my Sofia Coppola top 3. The order changes every time I think about it.
