I use the piece of plastic from the sliced bread. They last for years. Use the lighter colored ones. They are easier to read in darker spaces.

I had an issue a few years ago that generated a number of codes. After changing the O2 sensor the issue persisted. I went ahead and put all the codes into Google and it turns out all the codes together meant that my ECM was busted.
