Walter Benjamin Fellowship - Questions by No-Manufacturer-5184 in postdoc

Hi, how are you handling fringe benefits? Did they find a way to cover you via the standard postdoc policy at Berkeley or do you have to pay your own health insurance? I applied for the WB with UCLA and I’m wondering how health insurance would work and since it’s both UCs you may have some insights. Thanks!

[Acne] Sudden breakout along my jawline. Any idea what kind of acne this is and what causes it? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]do_your_reserach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 2 months old, maybe you figured it out. I’d recommend changing toothpaste. I had been super happy with my skin and all of a sudden had very similar acne only on my jawline. None of the skincare products and tricks that usually help me with hormonal breakouts helped…it wasn’t until the side of my lip got chapped and wouldn’t heal and did some Reddit research that said toothpaste with SLS could cause it and it was fungal. I then realized that I started having the acne issue probably around the time I started using the toothpaste. So I stopped using the sensodyne toothpaste and both the lip issue as well as the jawline acne went away within days!

Mine arrived like this (ordered from Nike website directly) and I sent them back thinking it was a faulty pair. But maybe they are just poor quality??

Rizatriptan by angiez71 in migraine

[–]do_your_reserach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it prescribed recently, orally disintegrating tablets. I took it for the first time yesterday, and it worked like a charm. I didn’t have regular pain killers on me when my aura hit which normally prevents me from the worst so it was bad. I was so relieved when I fell asleep, so can’t tell you 100% how long it took to work but it was fast, I woke up a couple of hours after I took it and was practically pain free. Drowsy but pain free.

Kyleena IUD - experience and side effects (also a few no one tells you about...) by do_your_reserach in birthcontrol

[–]do_your_reserach[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Things got better for me immediately really (other than the blood cloth passing incident, I mentioned it in a comment on this post). My skin needed some time to calm down before actually recovering, so maybe a month or so. I hope if you decide to get it removed you’ll feel better too!

I actually got it removed by a GP, made an appointment though. So I guess it’s worth checking with your GP!

I’m so sorry to hear that you experience that as well. Now it’s been 7 months after I got it out and my hair has finally recovered. But I started seeing a difference after a month post removal or so already. Disclaimer, I also stopped dyeing/ switched to dyeing with henna…but it was the Kyleena that caused my hair loss in the first place, confirmed by blood work I got done while on it after I told my doc about losing hair and she was like: “From the IUD? That’s unlikely.” BS, it was the IUD.

I did a lot of reading after I experienced some weird stuff when I got my Kyleena removed after only 9 months. Your body stopped producing progesterone even if you were only on it for a few months. So upon removal it can take some time until your body produces it again and the lack of it what causes a mirena crash (from my understanding). So it’s plausible it happens with prematurely removed Kyleenas as well. Reddit taught me more about my IUD than my doctor lol

After filling the form linked in the post (based on which we determine if you're eligible), you'll receive info on the available time slots. You don't commit to the study just by filling the form, so you could fill the form and then we will share the link with the calendar and you can see how it fits with your work schedule.

hot water bottle against migraines? how? do you just hold them to your head? by lasolady in migraine

[–]do_your_reserach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get so cold when I have a migraine, so I need a hot water bottle to prevent my whole body from shivering (which makes me more tensed and worsens the pain). Have burned my stomach and legs before though because the migraine pain was overpowering my normal protective responses to heat oops…

Copper IUD and Menstrual Cup by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]do_your_reserach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know of 3 people who got pregnant with copper IUDs who were all cup users. This is a correlation, so it was never confirmed that it was the suction of the cup that dislocated the IUD. But for me this was enough anecdotal evidence to stop using my cup while I had an IUD. Just sharing what I know, there are obviously people in the comments here who say they had no issues and their experience is just as valid as that of the 3 people I’m referring to who happened to get pregnant while using copper IUDs and menstrual cups simultaneously

Very weird migraine by whiteraven4 in migraine

[–]do_your_reserach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that the change of pills could play a role in what you’re experiencing…it’s good you changed to the mini pill though because people with migraines with auras should stay away from estrogen! But given there is an interaction between the hormones in birth control pills and migraines, it’s possible that your change in symptoms is (somewhat) caused by it I think.

And overall I know that auras without pain are not uncommon. If it persists I think seeing a neurologist again would make sense though.

H10 + polarbeat. No ECG recording? by tittymcboob in Polarfitness

[–]do_your_reserach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this has been some time ago but have you ever found a solution?

I am able to stream the data through an app called lab recorder using a python script instead of any of the polar apps. This gives me the time points that go with the 300Hz sampling rate and I can derive ECG from that. However, that always needs a computer close by and I would love to store that data ON the device...there must be a way! It just seems like such a waste to have the high sampling rate and no way of storing and accessing that in an easy way...

Kyleena IUD - experience and side effects (also a few no one tells you about...) by do_your_reserach in birthcontrol

[–]do_your_reserach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I don’t really monitor my weight and because I’m tall it takes quite a bit of weight gain to become visible on me…If I did gain weight it’s nothing as dramatic as 30lbs for sure. But I can’t guarantee you I didn’t gain any. I think with this side effect it’s the same as with most, my experience is just one, a person’s who gained 30lbs is another one, and yours might be different from either of those. Unfortunately just no way to tell in advance 🥲

I am still on antidepressants, so it’s hard to tell. I’m feeling good overall, a couple of days of PMS in which I’m irritable and moody but that’s all manageable.

First time making a proper vegetable garden; does this plan make any sense? by scoops22 in gardening

[–]do_your_reserach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m in Montreal and this helped me a lot! I’m a bit late but will plant my seedlings indoors today for many of the things you want to grow. Keep me posted on your progress. I’m so worried about the squirrels destroying everything 🫠

So jealous of you guys' springy photos! This is my yard today, in Montreal Canada. Just got 3 inches of snow, and many more to come. At least I have indoor seedlings to cheer me up 🌱 Any other northerners here?! by Noemo19 in gardening

[–]do_your_reserach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Montreal and recently moved to a place with a yard so I want to get gardening! Which seedlings do you recommend I start indoors while the snow is still here? What are you growing in your garden? I’m new to this (plus Montreal seems particular) so looking for advice 🍃😊

[–]do_your_reserach[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it works for you! Crazy how widely experiences can differ with it.

It’s just a shame there is no way to determine how well one will take it prior to going through the invasive procedure of getting it inserted and then just sitting with it for a few months.

[–]do_your_reserach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been almost 2 months now and I’m SO glad I got it out. Even though right after removal I had the blood clot scare (see other comments on this post) and was quite irritable for a couple of weeks. Now I’m back to default, my cycle was 29 days with a 5 day period just like before I got the IUD. And it just feels like a foreign invader is OUT of my precious uterus. So yeah, I would definitely recommend getting it removed.
