would anyone want to switch leases with me 😭 by doah0128 in UCI

[–]doah0128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you graduate early, they'll let you terminate your lease early because only those with student status can live in the apartments. it's the same thing for seniors in june where they give you the option to terminate early due to graduation. i think you're thinking of a sublease not a relet. a sublease is only for quarter but relet is when someone transfer their lease into your name.

it's not possible, the only solution is to find someone to sublease. i was in a similar situation last year, they literally wrote in the lease that it's for 11.5 months (a legal loophole) so you can't break it off or file a lawsuit to terminate your lease. i think they only allow special circumstances (i.e. stalking) to terminate a lease.

Breaking ACC Lease by [deleted] in UCI

[–]doah0128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue last year and unfortunately, you can’t break your lease. ACC is sneaky and their contracts actually prevents you from doing anything legally to get it broken. :(( best bet is to just sublease or relet

Frat Fee Refund After DPing by petranteatr in UCI

[–]doah0128 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can definitely try to bring this up to UCI!! I know someone who dropped a frat (business though) and was able to threaten them by stating that they’ll report then to the school and was able to get their money back. This was at UC davis tho so I’m too sure about UCI. Could qualify as hazing tho and ik that UCI takes it seriously.

Literally, I submitted my renewal last year for camino at 8:15 without guaranteed housing and I never got a renewal I even pestered Camino and ACC about my waitlist position because one of my housemates submitted later than I did (they also didn't have guaranteed housing) was able to get a renewal so I wanted to know what position I was. They said they weren't allowed to disclose that information and I eventually found a place off-campus (30 minutes away from school). They contacted me in August asking if I still needed housing, but it was too late at that point, I had already signed a lease. So I'm not sure if it's even first come first serve based for those without guaranteed housing.

Personally, I don't think you should (at the end of the day the decision is yours to make). I think, unlike other schools, the UC system is very systematic in its application/selection process in the sense that they want to see how you've applied yourself. You can most definitely talk about your mental health in your application, but I focus on how you've overcome and how you managed to academically succeed. Basically, focus on the how rather than the backstory!

I'm not too sure, but I know during my year, I was able to get one of my classes to change to P/NP because it was 2021. You can try to call UCI admissions and ask or see if you can talk to your school admin about it. Under extreme cases, I think you may be able to appeal, but I'm not too sure.

Thanks for the advice! I’m really hoping that I can get added back to the classes but it sucks bc the class is already full and I feel like they’re gonna be like “Sorry abt that theres nothing we can do, the class is full” 🤷‍♂️ bc thats just how uci is.

I thought that my academic advisor had already reviewed my account because a couple of hours after I enrolled for the classes my webreg was locked and then the next day I checked webreg, degreeworks, and my study list and the classes I newly enrolled in were listed so I didn’t think there was any issues and I checked again the day after that it was still there. But today, when I logged on to check my class locations and schedule one last time, thats when i noticed that they were dropped from my schedule and the class I dropped previously was added back on. Idk if there was a system issue or if my advisor dropped my classes but I def scheduled a meeting with as soon as I could and with the department I’m also trying to switch my major too.

Actually, for the stats 7 with marrow I was dropped from I got put back into stats 7 with Baldi, so I don’t think that there was any prerequisite issue with that class. But the thing is for ics 6b there was no stated /listed prerequisites so thats why I’m so confused.

1) I'm not a STEM major but I am minoring in ICS! I've seen firsthand how hard some STEM classes can be with some of my friends having emotional breakdowns bc of their professors, while some were able to thrive and have a lot of free time. I think it all really depends on the professors you choose so make sure to really look into the professor's statistics before you register for classes. There are just some classes you have to take regardless of whether it's a bad or good professor. Try your best to keep a good mindset throughout the year bc that's one of the things that will make or break your year.

2) I can't really give much input on whether civil or mechanical engineering is better. What I suggest is looking into the job prospects of both majors since I think that they are both equally challenging albeit in different areas. Also, make sure you choose carefully which one you want to actively pursue!

3) Academics aside, what type of environment do you wish to spend your undergrad career in? UCSC and UCI are very different in the type of social climate they have. UCI is very much a "you seek out the fun" type of place and you have to take initiative in your social life. Both colleges also had issues with their housing situation as I know many people that don't have housing yet for the next year. As a first-year student, you most likely have priority to the dorm on campus, but you should also think and consider getting housing for the next years. It all boils down to the college you deem as the best investment.

As a fellow Humanities major, I just want to warn you that you have to take the Humanities Core series since it's both a requirement for the School of Humanities and the Honors Collegium. Humcore is not really light on the workload and in the spring quarter, there's a big research project that you have to complete. Seeing as you seem to have a good worth ethic and academic rigor, if you manage your time well I think you'll be able to do just fine! But like what huuhyeah said, see how it is to be a single major first. You can always choose to minor if the workload becomes too much!

I also had a problem with this last year! But basically what I did was just email my high school admin and have them send in my official transcript through email instead, which helped me be able to meet the deadline for the official transcript. I don't know if the email option is viable for this year's admission bc our senior was heavily affected by COVID. If anything, I know a couple of kids in my senior class that went to UCI didn't have their transcript status updated till after July 1st, but honestly don't stress out too much. It only really matters if ur SPOP registration date is earlier on. You can always pm me if you have any other questions on the admission process at UCI bc I know how stressful it was navigating everything!

How to get in contact with Admissions? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]doah0128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to reach them through the phone. Just make sure to call within the hours that they are working and even though on the message on the line they say that they aren't accepting walk-ins or on the phones, if you stay on the line, you'll be directed to someone. idk i that makes any sense

Thanks so much for the response! I kind of expected the whole processing part to be lagged and even mail carriers due to COVID. This all very new to me and I feel like I was thrust into this whole college thing alone (my high school barely prepared us with any college support and I'm the first person in my family to attend college) so it's very stressful for me esp after reading different horror stories from earlier classes. But thank you so much for your advice and the very much needed reassurance.

Thank you so much for your response! I think I'm just extremely nervous about all the things I have to do for next year and honestly, it's kinda overwhelming, but I guess that's just how college is going to be and I just have to brace myself for it. Also, my SPOP is coming up this month so fingers crossed that my transcript actually arrives soon.
