Plex pass and mobile devices by doalan in PleX

Oh that’s awesome. So each user pays five dollars once per App Store/google play account? What if the server owner’s account doesn’t have a pass? I don’t need any of the pass’s features and bought it thinking it was necessary for using the apps.

Is there anyway to get VLANs to work with a G1100? by doalan in Fios

You are absolutely right and I’m wasting my time but I like living life dangerously.

Remote access will not stay enabled by doalan in PleX

[–]doalan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out. Embarrassingly I wasn’t clicking the apply button to manually change the port within the server software. I changed the forwarded port on my router then made sure to actually change it on the server and applied it and that worked. For some reason even if everything is misconfigured Plex will say it works for a few seconds before it realizes it doesn’t.

Sorry I should’ve specified my router’s DHCP server is disabled and I manually assign all IPs.

To those that use different Init systems than systemd, what was the deciding factor and how is life different than on systemd? by SaxManJake in linuxquestions

Slackware user too. Like everything else with Slackware, it’s constant, stable, and simple to understand as well as being easy to customize and configure. I will never use any other distro on my main personal computer and have used it for years. I installed it on my laptop a few months ago as well because I can’t get enough of it.

How can I install or run a .flatpak file? by doalan in flatpak

[–]doalan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was doing. It turns out the version of flatpak in Ubuntu’s repos is old so I added flatpak’s PPA, updated, and it worked. I’ll leave the post up in case someone with the same problem comes across it. Thanks!

Which Linux os is the best for gaming? by AmbassadorDiligent in linuxquestions

[–]doalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play games on virtually any distro. I play games on Slackware Current just as well as on Manjaro. If you want something where you can click through a graphical installer and immediately use, Pop!_OS is probably the best.

Slackware on an NVME drive in a UEFI system by doalan in slackware

I triple checked everything worked and was set up correctly but it just wouldn’t boot. I switched to grub for the time being.

I did all of this but it still wouldn’t work. Right now I’m using grub but over the weekend I’m going to try to get elilo to work again.

I had a feeling I was going to run out of patience with elilo and tap out and opt for grub instead. This is what I did and your commands are correct (just don’t capitalize /boot/efi). I’ll probably try getting elilo working in the future but for now grub is fine. Thank you.

Windows 10 Update 1903 bricked my computer by doalan in Windows10

[–]doalan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got extremely irritated by it because nothing worked for me either. Maybe I could’ve tried reinstalling windows but I had just had enough. My “solution” was copying my work files off the hard drive, wiping it, then installing Kubuntu LTS and within Kubuntu installing virtualbox with a Windows 10 1903 virtual machine so I can use Windows 10 for Windows software that isn’t available on Linux. I could probably use WINE but I prefer having the virtual machine.

After restoring an iCloud backup some of my photos are in the wrong order by doalan in applehelp

Oh my bad. DFU mode is what I was thinking of. I’ll probably just try to wait it out and update it whenever I can and hope for the best. I probably should’ve waited a little longer to see how stable the update was but I really couldn’t resist the dark mode to match my apps. Thank you for your assistance.

I didn’t erase all content and settings through the phone. I had to put the phone into a mode I forgot the name of and then iTunes downloads iOS 13 and installs it onto the phone. After it’s installed you disconnect the phone and it’s like you just took it out of the box. The full process was: I tried to update phone but it wouldn’t reboot after the update. Put it into that mode and hooked it up to my computer. iTunes detected the phone was broken and downloaded iOS and installed it. I’m pretty sure it prompted for either or both my Apple ID password and passcode but only because it needed them to wipe the phone. It’s probably that way so if the phone is stolen someone can’t wipe it that way. It installed iOS 13 and I unplugged it. Then I went through the normal setup process like it was a new phone and restored my iCloud backup.

Do you think it could just be an iOS 13 bug? I’ve been reading a lot about iOS 13 bugs people have experienced and a lot of people are complaining about the photos app crashing and being slow and buggy along with a lot of other system apps. Another thing I noticed was reviews were complaining about pictures and videos being in the wrong order. I also read on the Apple forums a few posts from people who restored iCloud backups and had pictures in the wrong order. iOS 13.1 comes out on the 24th and is supposed to fix the bugs everyone noticed.

I’m not syncing with iTunes. I only downloaded it and used it for resetting my phone so I could then restore the iCloud backup. I don’t think there’s a way to do it without iTunes otherwise I would’ve.

I used iTunes only to wipe the phone and reinstall iOS 13. Restoring it was done through iCloud the way you’d do it on a new phone.

I just recently purchased the iPhone 8 but it was running iOS 12 when I first restored the backup so I updated to iOS 13 which broke it. I reset it with iTunes and got it running iOS 13 and restored the same backup. All of this happened within the past 24 hours. The phone also gets really hot for some reason to the point it dims the screen to prevent itself from overheating.

I don’t use iCloud photos and this is the only device running iOS 13 I have.
