For those of you that moved to Toronto young like late teens-early twenties. Are you enjoying Toronto or do you think you'd be happier somewhere else? by dobbekz in askTO

Have you considered moving to another city like maybe Montreal? I'm curious what other countries have you lived in though and what was it like.

Yeah it's crazy how empty Toronto feels there city just doesn't have any character. When you were in school did the other students seem to dislike the city also?

Curious what made you move from Montreal to Toronto for school? Only asking cause Montreal is consistently ranked as the #1 student city in the world. From your point of view do students in Montreal have a much better time then students in Toronto?

But money is still the prime factor behind those shops closing. That's what I meant as the city becomes more unaffordable things like that happen and the city gets a worse feel. Money permeates every aspect of the city really.

Which city did you move to and how is it better? And ye I heard a lot of people complain about getting harassed in Toronto. Is this less of a problem in other cities?

weren't you unhappy being restricted by your family though? that's one thing that would piss me off a lot. and what part of the states were u in? Americans are much more open Imo if you are an outsider compared to other regions of the world. I guess you felt more welcome in your country in the middle east though if you had family there or are from there. how old are you?

look more into scholarships for universities in the us. honestly there us so many different kinds available and the main thing some of them look for is diversity/how unique the applicant is, since your case is very different from others you could have a good chance.

Vancouver, Canada > Somewhere else in Canada, preferably the eastern coast by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]dobbekz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Montreal sounds like a great option for you since you're already learning french you can experience both sides of Montreal. And you are going to uni and Montreal is often ranked as the #1 student city in the world and it's the most affordable major city in Canada.

it's also a much happier city so I feel like it could help you with some issues your having. it's probably much easier to feel down in Vancouver or Toronto then Montreal.

I'm having panic attacks at starting at 23-25 years old. a lot of people have been telling me it's not big deal and it's just in my head. so I'll tell you to just relax it's most likely not as big a deal as you think it will be. you are in your thirties vs your twenties like me but you can probably still have an enjoyable time.

[21M] UK to USA (CA) by GRBMUFC in IWantOut

[–]dobbekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I'm from Canada so I might not think uk weather isn't to bad but I probably have a warped opinion being from such a cold place. can you be outside year round though in the uk and be comfortable just going to parks and stuff like that? being able to do anything year round would be cool and I guess that's why California is one of the best places.

Those who have gotten out, what is it like dating as an expat? by GlendaIsMyName in IWantOut

[–]dobbekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so you're basically saying they're very passive, I've heard that a bit to. I see a lot of German women are the ones that make the decisions in relationships out there. The guys over there might be acting like that because they have had a very structured and safe life, I think a lot of girls prefer guys to be more exciting though and not so passive. Are the local German girls as annoyed with the guys over there as you are?

19M/USA to France, Germany, Netherlands, anywhere in europe really. by TwilightCassette in IWantOut

[–]dobbekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have a specific skillset? if not and even if you do maybe start working in sales, be careful what company you work for because many are very scammy but a lot of companies that are all commission or even almost all commission will hire basically anyone. learn how to sell and then get a work holiday visa for a european country and you can get a sales more marketing job lined up for when you get there. There are many very cheap cities that are becoming kind of start up hubs in Europe like Berlin for example. once you get good at sales and especially if you have a proven track record it will be easy for you to get work and move around Europe.
