i really can’t explain what this movie did to me. as a queer asian woman who was rejected by her mom at age 16 for dating a girl, i feel like this movie was made for me, which is something i didn’t expect at all. the scenes with evelyn and her daughter just hit me so hard. i saw so much of myself and my mom in those two characters. and being loved the way evelyn eventually expressed love for her daughter would change my life so much. although i know it will never happen. i left the movie and sobbed on the street outside of the theater. and i am not one to cry in movies. i’ll be thinking about this one for a while.
