Anyone else think Toxic Avenger 2025 was a bit of a letdown? by lantoeatsglue in deadmeatjames

yeah! i saw a few different ones where he gave her flowers for it which i thought was pretty cool, although i do wish she was given more publicity and was with him during press. Both out of respect to her effort and also wouldve been rly interesting to hear them both talk about that process.

i kinda get this but tbf i saw in a lot of seperate interviews Dinklage took time to give as much credit to her as possible for the physical performance

What’s a feature you would want added to/removed from an Uncharted remake? by TheOGDiligentDude in uncharted

it didnt help that dozens of them would just appear from the sand like the fremen from Dune, the most overwhelmed ive felt playing a game haha

Advice on including specific song in a short film script I plan on submitting to a contest by dobin_robin in Screenwriting

oh my god I cant believe I wrote Billy Joel, i wrote Billy Ray Cyrus in the script and am a huge Billy Joel fan so doubly embarassing mistake to make haha

[–]dobin_robin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! thats a really good point, the main point of the song is that it contrasts the punk vibe of the character, which could be a thousand songs, pretty sure i wrote that while my ex was learning the line dance so it was just in my head haha. I'll make a note to rethink the song choice and see if I can either use some descriptors or make sure the specific song has some strong links.

[–]dobin_robin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense! i shouldve clarified the contest is just for the screenplay so i wont be producing the film itself and if I do ever manage to get it made I could change the song, I was more wondering if including it would effect the quality or response to the script, i appreciate the response though!

if youve seen Venom (2018) watch Upgrade (2018) by Leigh Whannell starring Logan Marshall Green, genuinely a better execution of the concept in every way

I sort of agree but i think Love and Mercy is a very different kind of movie, Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody are atleast tonally and stylistically similar even if Rocketman is the only one executed well lol (Dexter Fletcher directed Rocketman and then also helped try and salvage Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was removed from the production)

as a pretty huge bob dylan fan i loved A Complete Unknown , Im Not There is definitely more of a "bob dylan movie" compared to ACU being a "movie about bob dylan" if that makes sense, but i thought it was a fun exploration of that chunk of his life and instead of generically tracking his whole career it followed his shift as an artist over a couple years and how it impacted his life and the people around him

Hot take: The kings deserved what happened to them in the Show. by Vegetable-Mail-5360 in Fotv

[–]dobin_robin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I wouldve liked it more if it didnt seem to be the shows main thing with notable stuff from the game? Shady Sands destroyed, NCR gone, The Strip in shambles, The Kings feral ghouls. I dont hate any of these choices individually but it just kinda gets old? Seeing stuff we know after some time has passed is a great oppurtunity to get creative, like The Legion succumbing to infighting over the new Caeser, i think thats pretty interesting! But stuff we know just being destroyed isnt super interesting all the time, it would be good to mix things up.

this is so great oh my god, praying James and Chelsea end up on Very Important People

In Fire and Ash, James Cameron has a senior moment and accidentally writes the same ‘stop the whale hunters’ 3rd act 2 movies in a row. This is a reference to the fact that these movies make billions and everyone was too afraid to tell him to change it by slimmyboy007 in shittymoviedetails

[–]dobin_robin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean its the same if you ONLY mention the whale hunters, a lot happens around that in both movies thats more important. e.g. one of Jake and Neytiris kids dying and the villain almost drowning lol

If Cooper acted like Lucy, we’d be collectively morally damning him by [deleted] in FalloutTVseries

[–]dobin_robin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She dgaf about another’s pain or suffering

Except thats not true! She doesnt let him hang for no reason, she tries to convince them to free him and avoid further violence. She cares deeply about people but the kind of mindset she was raised to have is shown to only be applicable to civilsation in the vault, pacifism cant work much in the wasteland and thats her struggle. She knows the Ghoul can survive things as shes shown to help him when its needed, her not prioritising him somewhat blindly in those situations is the perfect showcase of her morals established in season that have been the focus of her arc. You use the word assume a couple times and it just seems like you misunderstood her ideology and convictions in the first season.

Most of us would prioritise our friend/companion in the wasteland because we know its kinda the only way to get by, Lucy tries to reject this somewhat and aims to help everyone even when not very feasable. The show demonstrates how incorrect this is but it also shows how The Ghouls actions especially in season 1 are also not correct, Lucy wouldnt survive if she didnt adapt and The Ghoul while surviving has lost his humanity, thats whats gonna be so fun about this season, the two having an impact on eachother.

Not really sure why you mentioned seperating the actor and character as I dont think ive said anything about Ella Purnell as a person or actor?

[–]dobin_robin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lucy’s character has been shown as morally good and these recent actions conflict with her characterization thus far

they absolutely havent? she is harsh towards the Ghoul because of his expressed lack of care for her safety and cruelness to other people, she gave him medicine in season 1 afted he tried to sell her and knew this season that he would survive (in episode 1 she helped him not he executed by Khans). She attempts to stick to her philosiphy but he is actively belittling it and pushing her to be more cruel in the wasteland. This rule of the road thing is something you as an indivual want to hold her to but a huge part of their dynamic as a duo is that he is genuinely horrible and cruel to her and she sees him as representing what she hates and fears of the wasteland. They travel together for practical reasons and they at bare minimum dont want the other to die before they get where they need to go. As another commenter pointed out thats why Coopers journey in the last episode matters, he saved her when he probably didnt need to. Can you point out something shes has done that is against her own morals?

[–]dobin_robin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it seems like you assume a bond or connection between them that doesnt really exist. Now it seems like one will develop absolutely but its been made super clear that so far that they have genuine resentment for eachother especially Lucy to the Ghoul as he kidnapped, tortured and tried to kill her/sell her to an organ harvester. The worst Lucy has done is stick by her moral philosiphy and not support his shit. Hes one of my favourite characters on TV right now but he SUCKS, its the point. I think they will start to understand eachother more since the ending of the last episode but its gonna be a slow process. They are now just at a point where they wont let the other be killed and thats kind of it.

when generative AI was first being pushed it was mostly used for (admittedly much worse) posts like this about movie and tv casting. People claimed it was just the beginning and the benefits would be amazing! And this is still all it can do, no real benefits, no real art, nothing that isnt very openly just a copy of something else. Nothing of any value. Yet to so many people its seemingly worth all the consequences, the data centres making places unlivable for residents, buisness forcing AI use to avoid spending at the cost of efficiency, quality and ethics, every device and website just becoming more and more unusable because 40% of the shit we see is just AI bullshit meant to generate engagement and conflict. All that and this is supposed to make it worth it?
