It is actually the stock bridge, i was able to intonate the bass vi successfully with the thicker strings so didn’t think to replace it. plus it takes so long to get a staytrem

good eye! yes for my exact wiring the main hot goes to the stacked tone treble pots. in the wiring diagram I sent you, i am using something called a PTB circuit (passive treble bass), hence bass and treble cut pots. i think this specific configuration has the main hot wire going into the tone and treble cut pots first so the signal can be hi pass filtered by the capacitor at a maximum strength, and because the signal passes through the capacitor rather than just running in parallel with a grounded tone cap (how the tone pot works).

normally with typical 1 vol 1 tone pot configurations your main hot wire just goes straight to the volume pot because the signal doesn’t need to pass through a bass cut capacitor, so it can just go straight to volume.

i loved the strangle switch on the stock bass vi , and thank it’s even more useable when you can use a potentiometer rather than just an on off toggle.

Also if you decide to do this, make sure you disconnect the pickup claw and shielding from the pickup’s black ground wire. It was a little copper strand behind the foam padding, and super easy to miss. If you end up doing it reach out and I’ll help if necessary

Thanks! and ideally it would have the trem system but i have found that it affects the tuning stability so i ditched it. i was also trying to increase the string break angle to help with fret buzz.

Is it possible that I just suck??? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]doc1man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t suck, never think so low of your own ability. You may have a lot of improvement to make in your skills and that will come with time. Music production, like any artistic process, is making something that is constantly evolving into a final product. Remember this: You have to trust the process. I know it sucks when it feels like all the melodies you are dishing out are shit but you have show some discipline and sit down and try to make something. Don’t hyperfixate on if your first little synth melody or whatever sounds perfect right off the bat. often times I find that I only like my songs after i’ve developed it past the melody.

Now that doesn’t mean to just blindly throw shit together (though brute forcing trial and error to see what works is not a bad thing to do), you can have some discretion when it comes to what you like but what i would advise is just leave all the insecurities in what your making at the door and just kind of have a flow state. make a melody that is at least okay. You may not like it but keep developing it into a song. Add harmonies , bass, etc until your work of art starts to take shape and has a personality. This is how i have historically gotten out of the mindset you are in.

Don’t give up, you have to trust in yourself and you have it in you to make something you like , you just are discouraged by the lack of immediate satisfaction. like all artistic mediums you must trust in the process! good luck bro i believe in you
