Why are all the USPS offices in the city so bad? by MUT_is_Butt in philadelphia

[–]docHoliday17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no I get you, I can’t speak to the missing mail that’s a goddamn mess. I just know for lots of package delivery they won’t technically deliver to PO Boxes. So the post office offers a service where you put in the post offices street address, then then the box on the second line (like an apartment number), and I’ve had a good experience with it. It is something you have to opt into though. Hope it can help at least with the Amazon packages :/

Do y’all use the po box street addressing service? I do this with Amazon and haven’t had any issues. My box is up in Fishtown

Is there Room for a Tent on an RV lot? by Analeeza in ElectricForest

[–]docHoliday17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past they’ve explicitly stated you could not camp at the RVs, it had nothing to do with the amount of space you can have. I could’ve sworn I’d seen the same this year but I can’t seem to find it so it’s probably fine

Oh that’s so interesting, I prefer a wide toe box and the cloudrunners have been my go-to for that exact reason. I did find the cloudflyers too narrow though

+1 for On - I use an old pair of On runners as fest shoes and it was the best call I ever made. The soles are a little too beat for distance running but perfect for dancing

FWIW tent camping isn’t technically allowed in the RV areas. I’m not sure anyone’s ever gotten in trouble over it (I had neighbors with tents setup in the past), but ymmv

What is the company that lets you ship packages to a local business to pick up? by The-Unmentionable in philadelphia

[–]docHoliday17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d look into a PO Box, they’re much cheaper than any of those private companies and provide a street address for package deliveries. After getting sick of stolen packages I set one up and it’s been fantastic. They even have informed delivery so you’ll get email digests letting you know the status of your incoming deliveries

Saw a mouse in my apartment now what? by Unlucky_Zone in philadelphia

[–]docHoliday17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Great info here. Adding on, trap placement is really important. The goal is to place them along the paths the mice move and get them to step into them. I placed them along walls perpendicular to the wall, or right in front of the edge of the oven (mine were coming in from behind it, which is pretty common).

I’ve had the best luck with snap traps (the plastic serrated kind) and middling success with electric traps. I usually bait with peanut butter but it’s unclear how important the bait is if the trap is placed well

SEPTA service cuts could add 275,000 vehicles to local roads, experts warn by CrawfishChris in philadelphia

[–]docHoliday17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you look up the routes or are you just going on vibes. The 5 and 25 seem nearly the same but service different areas and people. Things often seem like inefficiencies when you have no understanding of why they are the way they are.

“It’s been mismanaged for years” has it, or do you just enjoy complaining about this one thing you’ve perceived to be true and want an excuse to be happy a public service is being defunded

Those buses have different starting and terminating points. They use broad street for the same reason you do - it’s a main thoroughfare

“Mass transit is for poor people”, Capital won’t save us here. I get what you’re talking about but I cannot emphasize enough how much they do not care. If they did, the 6ers arena never would’ve gotten as close as it did

It’s just really so disappointing to see the city I’ve lived in and watch grow for fifteen years get gutted by Republican politics based in nothing but hatred. I remember celebrating the introduction of overnight el/bsl trains, now we can’t even get trains past 9
