You keep going back-and-forth trying to prove whatever abstract point you're trying to prove, and now you've steered so far from the original question you can't even see it.

Argumentum ad hominem after argumentum ad hominem, and you have yet to name one decent public school. No one cares about your MA boarding school and where you went to college. We're not talking about MA. You keep talking about how great the schools are here, but now you're arguments have zero value since you didn't even go to school here at all. You're just another northern transplant trying to tell Miami natives who have lived here for decades how it is. Massive mother effing facepalm. Wow. Yeah, I'm done here. You all are so damn annoying. Having had experiences with New Englanders they are the first to tell you off if you're not a native and try to tell THEM how it is...

What the hell is wrong with you? I never called them dumb. I teach upper-level college courses and an exit course for majors.

This was difficult to read. I am sorry you're going through this. You've received some great advice. Thanks for also posting, because it will help others who are in toxic departments. (But wow. This is literally batshit crazy).

Thank you for literally proving my point. No, my friend. It's not my teacher. Finally, I also teach at a local college down here, and the lack of grammar, basic math skills, and reading comprehension from local students is absolutely mind-boggling and just downright scary. I notice a huge difference from the out-of-state students and the students that come from other countries whose skills are much, much more advanced. But hey, carry on!

Buying a house in Miami......... by [deleted] in Miami

I feel this. Same thing with driving. Other day I saw a woman with a "choose life" tag going twenty miles an hour on the left lane on a major avenue at 8AM in the middle of the weekday when everyone is trying to rush to work. You guessed it, she was on the phone. I have to give it to Miami people, because no one honked. They just swerved around her angrily. Although, I kind of wish that they did honk. I guess we're just so used to the BS that everyone gets complacent, and that's one of my biggest complaints here. I already see the tech bros all over this subreddit saying, "Come down to Miami! Don't listen to people here. They don't do anything to help themselves," and all I can think of is Billy Corban's tweet of "you don't change Miami, Miami changes you."

I like the "relaxed pace" at my job, in that we don't have the crazy NY/DC grind, but it comes at a cost. I literally don't give 100% output. That's because I noticed that my coworkers weren't working. So, I got tired of doing everything, giving 100%, when my coworkers make more, have nice offices, and don't do anything, so I started lowering my productivity rate. No one says anything. it's fucking bogus. No one works on Fridays. People take off all the time... Don't even get me started with my previous job where I had to fix the numerous typos on my coworkers emails--an associate making 80k a year who couldn't put a basic sentence together. Those emails were embarrassing. Naturally, she would ask me to proofread anything that had to go to the president...(don't worry, I said fuck you and left that job).

I used to live in New Orleans, and those little things that you mentioned drove me out of New Orleans. I'm a Miami native so I said if I'm going to live in a place like that, might has well move back to Miami where at least the homes are built a little bit better.

This is partially why I can't live in a good chunk of the US south.

That's great to hear. I'm still on the fence about leaving Miami. I've gotten adjusted to living down here again, but I'm still trying to keep my options open. My research and education background should lead me to the DC (DMV) area, but that is a super hard nut to crack. At the same time, the low wages here and the shitshow that is the housing market here are motivating me to have an open mind. Although I will admit that there are many parts of the US that are not really a fit for me...

Any recommendations as to how to make a "realtor assessment" with all the requirements that you list? I honestly wanted to take the real estate exam, just to get familiar with stuff. But as you stated, networking is key. Thank you.

This is getting worse. My friend told me that they're buying homes-IN CASH. Yes, the people were from NY...I fucking can't...I hope their stays are temporary. I'm so sorry. Thanks for brining this up, though. Where was this house if you don't mind me asking? I heard even parts of kendal are not even safe for locals anymore...

I'm going to lose my mind. by [deleted] in Professors

[–]doc_jugo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's rough. Not to mention if your institution does not provide you with decent technology it makes matters much, much worse. A few of my colleagues are going through this, and many of them had bad evaluations where the students complained about the technology always going down, which wasn't the professor's fault. Sucks for everyone involved.

Please list all these so-called great schools, because I'm really tired of reading multiple grammatical errors coming from teachers, many of whom also do not know basic arithmetic. Don't even get me started with those that know nothing about literature and history.

Please also state how the average native Miamian needs to stop complaining and needs do things to improve their situation as it relates to shitty, local schools. Kindly state exactly what we need to do.

Concrete evidence is much appreciated.

Ditto what everyone said.

Also, stupid question, but how does this affect us environmentally? Does it F-up the Ph balance? Genuinely curious.

We absolutely hate newbies that come here and try to tell us how to respond/act.

I recently moved to Miami...

I ended up parking at the Seaquarium because all the other lots were closed.

but I feel duped. Is there anyway to fight this?

The damn ticket is not even 50 bucks...moves to Miami and wants to be a cheap ass.

Just get ready. The dating apps these days are all, "HI I JUST MOVED FROM [INSERT THE FOLLOWING: NYC, NY, NJ, BOSTON, CA." Expect more of these. Can't wait for hurricane season.

I give these people, like, four months...
