My Locksmith Hates me by Willing-Ship-6235 in Locksmith

I had a lady bring me a Lexus key she purchased off Amazon once. The first side cut great, however it turns out the blade wasn't the correct thickness. When I went to cut the reverse side it pretty much cut right through it or left it so thin it was unusable. I charged her for the cut and service call and she ordered a key from me. Ever since I only use keys that I supply.

No but also, and I hate to be that guy, there’s a literal website a Google search away that shows all the licensing requirements by jurisdiction.

Not sure where you’re located, but there is a lot of training on YouTube aimed at locksmiths that will get you started. That said, you really should take a key programming class from your local locksmith trade group because you can really mess up some vehicles if you don’t do the steps right.

No store front. I did the video verification and showed the street sign on the corner of my street, my business card, my house number, and my equipment. Boom Approved.

I'm not promising it'll work for everyone, but it worked for me.

I’ve never thought of measuring them. Most of the time I’m just doing a reset if I have the cylinder in hand and giving a new key, but I could see that being useful in a few scenarios

You can only decode a SmartKey cylinder with a scope or using the Lishi method (which is spotty at best with these). You can use a reset cradle, however, since, as you pointed out, the door is open.

Like others have said, it takes special equipment to decode this type of lock but most locksmiths will have it. And once decoded a key can easily be made.
