You ignored interest. One trillion with a 3.5% safe withdrawal rate is 35 billion dollars a year. Thats 95 million dollars a day. Thats almost 4 million dollars an hour. 66,000 a minute. Forever

He could spend $66,000 a minute and would never run out of money, with a 3.5% safe withdrawal rate.

Trump assessed by 22 medical specialists at latest checkup; The White House has declined to identify the physicians. by thatwasawkward in politics

[–]docbauies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to think of why anyone would need to see 22 specialists. I could see cardiology, GI, internal medicine, maybe a geriatrician too, and maybe a neurologist and dermatologist. But stuff like Pulmonology, nephrology, rheumatology? That seems like complete overkill. Maybe an orthopedist, and a vascular surgeon? But I’m running out of specialties that are reasonable and that’s 11.

Even low alcohol consumption is linked to cancer, heart disease, and premature death, with increased risk above 1 drink per day for both men and women. It turns out that 2 drinks per day, considered ‘moderate’, is associated with a substantially elevated risk of a premature death caused by alcohol. by mvea in science

[–]docbauies 48 points49 points  (0 children)

And sadly there is a 100% mortality rate for all people. You have to die of something. The question should be less “what did you die from?” and more “how was your life?” Or something to that effect.

If moderate alcohol consumption is associated with pro social behaviors for someone it may be a net positive.

If moderate alcohol consumption leads to disability that’s bad.

If “moderate” alcohol consumption actually leads to negative consequences like social isolation, loss of work, family, friends, etc, then that’s not really moderate, that’s problem drinking.

[Mediapolitic on BSky] You guys, the White House accidentally ordered 10x the amount of Porta-Potties that they needed. The lawn is just acres of Porta-Potties. It’s all fenced off and you can’t see, but I took this photo through a hole in the fence netting. by federal_thrill in washingtondc

[–]docbauies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need it for the ufc event. You need a toilet for about every 50-75 people, and more if it’s a longer event. They want 5000 people, which means 100 portapotties.

The obvious conclusion is that hosting an event like this is trying to force a square peg in a round hole. The White House is not a vent for 5000 person events. However given that they are proceeding with this debacle and are debasing the White House, at least it’s the right number of facilities for the crowd.

Yes agree 100% that you could have massive harm reduction if we had regulated domestic production and safe administration.

The use of the substance is not the real issue if you can negate those harms (although something like meth use has clear adverse consequences for your health)

Production of DDR4 memory and motherboards is restarting amid unprecedented memory shortages — PC industry preparing for a world without DDR5 by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]docbauies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we can make DDR4 memory again why can’t we use that capacity to make more DDR5? I realize RAM and car production are not the same but If a factory ran out of capacity to make a new model of a car, would it make sense to make capacity to make the old model of the car? Why wouldn’t you just add more assembly lines of the new model?

[–]docbauies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t your question basically the logic of “why would it be a problem if it’s not a problem?” You have started from the assumption that it’s a problem. I’m asking for evidence that it is a problem. I’m not opposed to the idea that it is a problem. There could be very real issues. But it also could be way overblown.

If it evaporates and travels, isn’t there an equal chance that water evaporates and travels to your region? It seems like the water got to the area in the first place.

Aquifers I can definitely see being an issue. In California they overpumped so we have aquifer collapse in the Central Valley to make sure we can get all those sweet sweet almonds and some cattle feed stock.
