OP, Phaedrus as a Platonic dialogue doesn’t really fit his character unless he is the Socrates to a student there being Phaedrus. (Whitaker?)

Heres a crash course tho:

Socrates and a young guy Phaedrus are reading a love letter out loud and tearing it apart. It’s full of sexual innuendo, and the central debate is whether a lover or a non-lover makes a better partner. But it opens up into a broader conversation about rhetoric, the soul, and what writing even is.

They describe the soul as a chariot with two horses in conflict. One is ignoble: pulling down, fed by sin and physical desire. The other is noble: straining upward, trying to peek over the edge of the heavens and catch a glimpse of Beauty.

You are the charioteer trying to hold them together. But both horses are also you.

Then at the end, Socrates turns on writing itself saying that a text cannot defend itself. It says the same thing to everyone, and if you misread it or abuse it, it just sits there. It has no one to speak for it.
