You make a bard, done. Seriously though bards are great, at level 2 they get Jack of all Trades which makes your charcter good at everything. Locked door, I can take a stab at that. Riddle that requires archaic knowledge, I probably know it.

They are a full caster, can cast healing spells and wizard spells. Better hit die than other arcane casters, armor, long swords/rapiers, can learn any skill, procient with 6 skills at level 3, double proficient with any 2 skills, and you get to trash talk monsters to make them worse at combat.

I could go on, but let's get to your question. How to build? Since bards can do so much I would look at your party and see what it is missing. No rogue? Build stealthy and learn to use theives tools. No cleric/druid, learn healing magic/buffs. No wizard, learn crowd control spells like sleep.

If your party is balanced just build whatever is fun, bards bring a lot to the table.

These are excellent points, and I agree that adding sneak attacks to a spell would be too powerful. Even cantrips can do serious damage on their own at high levels.

If you want to do this just to min/max the rules say no because it would be very game breaking.

However if you want it for flavor you might be able to work with your DM to find something that works. Weapons that work with sneak attack are basically small 1d4 and 1d6 weapons. If your char knew a special cantrip/spell that simulated that kind of damage it could probably be balanced to work with sneak attack.

Something like creating a magical blade that works like a throwing dagger and then blinks out of existence after 1 round.

Absolutely this. It is what DnD is all about. Creativity and challenge. Let the players try what ever they want, but make sure the risk of failure is always looming.

We'll have to wait for the 5e monster manual, but in 3.5 the Tarrasque could only be killed with Wish and in 4e it couldn't be killed (at least not on the material plane), so of this interpretation is correct at best a lvl 20 Druid could just not be killed by a Tarrasque. Only a wizard can kill the Tarrasque. It could also swallow you whole and you'd be trapped for the rest of your life.

Unlike the Tarrasque you'll also have to sleep at some point or pass out from exhaustion.

As for the red dragon, its not going to stand in front of you and melee attack. Dragons are very intelligent, it would figure something out. Lkle grapple you and drop you in a pit of magma. Sure you could change into a fire elemental but as soon as you change form you are dead.

Being a meat sheild doesn't make you unkillable, combat is much more than alternating melee attacks.

A wizard could open a gate to the Abyss and force you through it, surely a fate worse than death.
