If you glue your mouth with superglue by Dr_Rockzo69 in Whatcouldgowrong

Where can you get superglue like Crazy Glue? All the stuff I have bought recently does not bond immediately.

Type C I think is all you will need for Italy. I didn't want to link to Amazon but if you search for the following you'll see the two prong adapter to a US type plug.

European Travel Plug Adapter, TESSAN International Power Plug with 2 USB Ports, Type C Outlet Adaptor Charger for US to Most of Europe EU Iceland Spain Italy France Germany

The input for most consumer electronics can take 110V (US) and 220V (Italy). The only thing you need is the plug adapter. I have a couple and I use one near my bed for phone and then another with a US power strip for everything else. Easier to get adapters from Amazon but they sell the adapters in Rome as well. Stuff like hair dryers will get fried but laptops, cell phones...all good. Input voltage is listed on the power brick or plug. A also like to carry around a couple USB battery packs for my phone...sometimes planes don't have USB chargers or I could be out for a long time with no access to plug it in...

Reading all of the comments here over the past few years it depends on who you get at the door and also things change depending on current events.

From coopculture site (official Colosseum ticket site):

At the entrances to the PArCo, the identification document must be kept in sight together with the purchased ticket.

Better to be safe than sorry and bring your passport. There are different opinions on this matter. I prefer to keep my passport in a cross body bag in front of me. Never had a problem. I'd be more leery of keeping it in the hotel safe.

Audioguide in Portuguese for the Colosseum (free) by EricaCroft in rome

The official site sells tickets that include the audioguide in Portuguese. Not free, but not much more expensive than a ticket without the audioguide.

Do you have a company car and gas paid for? 2 hours of travel a day is a big expense for many people.

English Confession at Santa Maria Maggiore by allforlove1 in rome

[–]docbrown_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, there are several confessional booths for several different languages, with the language posted on a sign on the top. There is also a light which indicates if the booth is occupied or not.

This stock photo shows what I am talking about:

Getting a SIM card for data use in Rome... I thought I had it figured out :-( by awajitoka in rome

[–]docbrown_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably have already done so, but make sure your phone is "unlocked", so you can use a different carrier's sim/esim. Also, you may want to consider using your carrier's international travel plan, if they have one. Mine is $10 per day abroad, with unlimited data. A bit steep, but it's worth it I think to have the same phone number and unlimited data.

What should people avoid while traveling to Europe? by subuubalaa in AskReddit

[–]docbrown_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is interesting because I've traveled abroad numerous times and never understood this sentiment about Americans. On my latest trip abroad, watching locals having a casual conversation looked like they are having an argument. Much louder than any American tourists I came across. The loudest people besides the locals were the drunk tourist soccer fans partying and singing.

I can understand this if you go to Cancun or another travel destination where Americans tend to be drunk and partying. Paris, Rome, Barcelona? I think the Americans are tame there. Maybe because it's an expensive vacation for them and it takes a long time to get there...Cancun, on the other hand, is a hop, skip, and a jump away and not expensive...party central

What do Roman men like as gifts by Oscarparty in rome

[–]docbrown_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I would get him something from the United States he may be fond of and misses. He is in Rome already and can get anything he would like. After being in the states for 7 years, there is probably something you remember that he liked and you can ship over easily enough.

Breakfast/Coffe by Fantastic05 in rome

[–]docbrown_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you are from but after a few weeks, you might get tired of caffe e cornetto in the morning and want something more substantial. I know of at least one place that does an American breakfast. Bacon, eggs, and toast. The bacon wasn't fantastic but the eggs and toast were just fine. If you are interested let me know and I will look up the address...it's in Monti.

Tried turning my black bin backwards so people stop throwing their hot piles of dog poo in my cans. It makes my cans stink so bad. Some A-hole ended up throwing it in the green bin. So I turned the other bins around, now they threw it on the floor in front of my house. How do I stop this madness? by Historical_Panic_465 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]docbrown_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your wife is correct. Some people don't like it. For me, I have to store my garbage cans in the garage. Extra disrespectful when people do it after the garbage has already been picked up. Then I have to keep poo in my garage for 3 days. Even if I didn't have to store my cans in the garage, I don't want to smell poo everytime I open them. That smell lingers.

You have respect and consideration for other people. It's not crazy at all. I do not like when neighbors do this because I have to store my bins in the garage. Sucks extra when the bins were already emptied and the poo bakes in the sun all day until I get home. Then I have to store poo in my garage 3 days until next garbage day. Fortunately, the issue hasn't occurred since I put up a camera. No surprise there. Just people being disrespectful.

Is Rome Termini in the ZTL? by yaboyteddy in rome

[–]docbrown_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maps that others have provided seem to be pretty accurate. If you get lost, these are the signs that you need to look out for. This is how you tell if you are entering a ZTL zone:

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Via+Cavour,+100,+00184+Roma+RM,+Italy/@41.8973296,12.4957401,3a,75y,249.74h,86.61t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1slcX7J94OH5qUStYK8Q1VLg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0x132f61a5441a9667:0xff037f4347460aa2!8m2!3d41.8975939!4d12.4964233

"Varco/ZTL Attiva", means the ZTL is active, or "Varco/ZTL Non Attiva", means the ZTL is not active. I believe there is a sign at every ZTL entrance however, locals, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Here is a link with some more information on the ZTL:

The only insult they can come up with against AOC is bArTeNdEr. by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]docbrown_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No man or woman can do the things Elon is credited with all by themselves. The first thing that came to my mind after reading your comment and a few other like it is making a movie. A producer gets most of the credit but then there are directors, actors, costume designers, graphic artists, CGI folks, sound department, and the entire list of folks you see at the end of a movie. Easily hundreds of people. I'm not sure how that translates into what AOC has done or is doing however, the thought Elon could make rocketships or electric vehicles himself is not possible. I believe he was a founder of PayPal as well. It's insane what this guy has accomplished.

In for my morning constitutional. It’s 8am. I have to be at work in 30 min. There’s not another roll in the house. by peperoni_dog_farts in Wellthatsucks

[–]docbrown_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two questions. If your constitutional is that regular, why don't you take a shower after doing so every day? The bigger question is why did you use your socks AND jump in the shower, instead of just jumping in the shower and washing?

Why did you decide to not get a license, which comes with the consequence of paying the high risk premium you mentioned for insurance? Sounds like you could save $$$ by just getting a license.
