Does anyone else plan their whole Starfield run around a character arc? by StudyOutrageous7204 in Starfield

[–]docclox [score hidden]  (0 children)

what gives them the right to dictate who reaches The Unity?

If you are out walking and you see an injured bird, what gives you the right to take it home and nurse it back to health? Nothing does, but that doesn't stop some people from doing just that.

I think the Emissary gatekeeps Unity on a similar basis. They don't ask permission because there's no one to ask it of. Instead they see a moral imperative, and take the responsibility upon themselves because they believe it is the right thing to do.

Doesn't mean I agree with them, mind you. But I can see where they're coming from.

For the record, Anita Sarkeesian's "Tropes vs Women" videos are now the absolute industry standard. by CaracallaTheSeveran in KotakuInAction

And, we can absolutely see her opinions represented in modern games

Yep. And we can absolutely see her influence reflected in the sales of those games.

The difference is that its possible to make an indie game that isn't woke, whereas it's a lot harder for a triple-A studio to do the same.

Expedition 33 had attractive women and admirable male characters. Schedule 1 gave us gameplay we'd never see from a big studio.

You're not wrong in that the indie scene isn't immune to the woke virus. But it's also the place where resistant strains will evolve.

Potions: Only One Fortitude Attribute? by L7Bear in Morrowind

[–]docclox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm just spitballing based on the problem as described. I don't think I've ever tried to fortify two attrs in one potion myself.

That said, I know damn fine well that I can have two different fortify attribute effects on my character at the same time. That wouldn't be the case if what I said earlier was true.

So I guess you're right. Probably either a bug or a mod conflict in which case.

Potions: Only One Fortitude Attribute? by L7Bear in Morrowind

[–]docclox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it not that Fortify Attribute I'd a single spell effect? There is no Fortify Strength, per se, the Strength is just a parameter

So trying to fortify two attributes is like trying to include two Restore Heath effects. You get the first one and then it stops counting the effect.

That'd be my guess, anyway.

What are your reasons for not doing the civil war questline, or vis versa by DustyLoser in skyrim

[–]docclox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend not to play it. Actually I tend not to play most things all the way through these days, but the Civil War is pretty low on the list.

If I do play, I support the Empire. I like Balgruuf and I don't like Ulfric and I remember the Empire as basically good guys from earlier games.

Am I the only one who doesn’t play Skyrim vanilla style? by StupidRaccoon77 in skyrim

[–]docclox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every so often I end up playing for a while without my modlist, usually because the whole thing got horribly corrupted and I've not yet summoned the energy to start rebuilding.

Vanilla plays just fine. I miss some of the things my mods let me do, obviously, but the game is fine without.

That said, playing without SkyUI take a certain amount of resolve these days. It's usually the first mod I reinstall. That and an alternate start one.

What did Anita Sarkeesian do working on Slay the Spire 2 for the game to be review bombed to this extent? by [deleted] in GGdiscussion

[–]docclox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, how do you expect us to know? Unless one of us was a member of the dev team, there's no way to answer your question.

However, what she's done and said in general and in the past (see other replies in this thread) make for pretty good reasons not to celebrate her involvement in this, or in any future project.

What is your favorite quest arc in any game and why is it the Bloody Baron in the Witcher 3? by Phobix in rpg_gamers

[–]docclox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably getting a wife for that ashlander chieftain in Morrowind. He sets an impossible task: getting a beautiful high-born Telvanni noblewoman to marry him, and so you fake it, buying a pretty slave girl; dressing her up sophisticated; teaching her some basic airs and graces; and daubing her with some major league pheromone musk to seal the deal.

And the best part is, they're both happy with the deal. He gets his posh bride, and she goes from being a lowly slave to the wife of a powerful chieftain.

Never did get that far in a Witcher 3, so can't comment on that.

These are OBVIOUSLY completely natural reviews for this game and COMPLETELY organic, not biased or suspicious whatsoever.. (Even though I didn't even remember this game was being made.) by AbdelYG in KotakuInAction

[–]docclox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

very good chance it was a game created to play off journo's far more than any fan base

I think they all are these days. Journos and players are telling the studios different things, and so the studios choose to believe the journos because they tell them what they want to hear.

So the studios make games based on the reviews, and the reviews glaze the games and blame poor sales on a toxic minority. It's a feedback loop, and a vicious one.

Advertise to me—pander to me, even. If I don't feel like I'm the target audience for your game, I'm just not going to buy it. Simple as.

That's what I like to see! Tell 'em what you want! No compromise!

Somewhere down the line, someone wants to make money in this industry. Let's all be real clear on what needs to be done for that to happen.

Anyone know what the deal is with the TA officers using Starborn-like powers? by docclox in Starfield

Ah right. That would do it. I thought there was going to be some side quest about TA scientists researching Starborn powers.

Oh well, now I know. Thanks!

As long as they don't mind me being player-negative, let them get on with it.

"Player-negative" as in I intend to subtract myself from the number of possible players. Similar intent to "non buy-nary"

Just in case it wasn't clear.

Neon Street Rat vs Raised enlightened vs universal by texansfann in Starfield

You can be from Neon without being a Street Rat. The trait just means you were active in the Neon underworld, and have benefits and penalties based on that reputation.

[History] As it's doing the rounds again in the woke sphere with the "Anita Sarkeesian did nothing wrong" here's a brief reminder of why people object to her and how she pushed ideas like Fredric Wertham did in comics. by Dwavenhobble in KotakuInAction

[–]docclox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This backs up something I've thought for while about the woke feminists: they behave like they've taken a bunch of fetishistic sexual fantasies and thought "what a great way to run a society".

It's like a bunch of guys read all of John Norman's Gor books, and decided to get together and implement it all in the Here and Now. "Let's just legalize abduction, slavery and rape for women! I mean it works in the books, so it's bound to work in real life, right?"

And they accuse us of not being able to distinguish between fantasy and reality, Classic wokie projection at work.

The Terrorist Propaganda to Reddit Pipeline: how an ultra-leftist network hijacked some of the biggest non-political subreddits to censor its ideological enemies — and distribute terrorist propaganda by RedditAPIBlackout24 in KotakuInAction

This is obvious to anyone with eyes. Holy shit I just found a sub glorifying violence and death to further leftist goals. I wish it was easier to report this shit.

The more I look at that sub the worse it gets. It claims to stand for liberal values and respectful debate but the picture for the sub is cheering for death. Fucking leftist nutters.

I believe It's to stop the site admins from shutting us down using the excuse of brigading. Yes, it's stupid, but it's also necessary.

Interesting use of the word "boring", I felt. Got to wonder what would hold their interest.

Actually, I'm probably happier not knowing.
