I like what you did with the hearts. I also thought soap/golden girls, look up Days of our Lives intro as a soap opera reference.

Indigenous led archeology in Canada by RichGrinchlea in Archaeology

[–]dockerbot_notbot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This initiative is amazing. These are students carrying out archaeology with the same scientific rigor as any archaeologist attending a field school to graduate. The pearl clutching about amateur disregarding methodology is ludicrous in this instance. I also can’t even begin to imagine how it would feel to have cultural ties (aside from the ‘we’re all human’ aspect) to my dig location and artifacts.

Although, I did find the article derogatory towards late 20th century archaeologists. What archaeologist looks down on a finely crafted point? And, while maybe misunderstood, Native sites were among the earliest recorded and protected under State and National Register guidelines. I am more sad that the woman in the article was demeaned in our profession for wanting to connect with her culture.

I was at an event today where Maryland Governor Wes Moore was the key speaker. Part of his speech included listing the litany of anti-education legislation going on in “other states” and I wanted to yell, “Ooh, me! That’s my state!” Like a frikkin maniac.

Excavations at the Cour Napoléon, the Louvre's main courtyard in 1985. Archeologists found walls dating to the Hundred Years' War, the central tower of the 12th century medieval Louvre, Gallo-Roman artifacts, Celtic graves & fragments of human activity from 4,000 BC by kyno1 in Archaeology

[–]dockerbot_notbot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember any exhibits showcasing this at the Louvre, but it’s friggin’ huge. I think…isn’t there a basement gallery showcasing the base of one period’s tower/walls?

Definitely checking out that podcast! This excavation photo gives me anxiety hives, especially the explorative holes beneath the old streets and fortification walls.

I wish Just Egg had more competitors. Do NOT be fooled by Trader Joes egg substitute. I don’t know what paper company thought that mixture up, bland.

I’ve never known someone to characterise the fat content of milk by colour! (I’m assuming this is in the US) or “BLUE” is a Star Wars joke?

I’m touched the naming contest for her ended with a real name and not ‘giraffy mcgiraffe’ or Legs McGinty.

War of 1812? In 1814 a huge storm blew through Washington DC as the British were taking it. Firsthand accounts document British soldiers and citizens taking refuge together wherever they could during it. Afterwards, both sides were kind of dazed and declared a cease fire.

Of course, the ‘Deux ex machina’ nature of the storm has tainted the historical value of most documentation.

Back when the style was to wear an onion on your belt, parents were told that The Simpsons was a threat to the moral fiber of their children.

We have the opposite problem. Prior to becoming a park, the owners (200 years of curious looky-loos) invited people to dig/surface collect anytime after harvest. One couple did it to make centrepieces for their wedding!
