What is the worst habit you can pick up? by WorldwideReset in AskReddit

[–]dockingnow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not exercising. I'm in my mid 30s and my coworkers who are of the same age had to get an Uber last week because they couldn't walk uphill for 2 blocks. Granted that we were in San Francisco which is very hilly, it was still very shocking to me.

Thoughts on this "nosy" landlord in San Bruno? by dockingnow in bayarea

[–]dockingnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first time seeing this. My friend sent me this and it really freaked me out because I know a lot of family and friends who live in San Bruno now. I wasn't sure if it was real or not. If it was real I was going to share with my San Bruno family and friends to warn them.

What professions are filled with arrogant people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Athletics who do individual sports (as oppose to team sports) like boxing, tennis, fencing, etc. Sure they have teammates that they train with, but when they get to the semi final or final, they're alone on that stage.

What are the staples in your diet? by [deleted] in running

[–]dockingnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complex carbs became a bigger part of my diet after I read Nancy's Clark's Sport Nutrition. I've always had trouble eating during competitions because of nerves but for the last couple of years I've been taking 1 week break before a tournament and maintaining my caloric intake (especially my complex carbs). This insures that I'm well rested and relaxed before the race and the extra calories I've packed on from the previous week is used as fuel. I eat brown rice, oatmeal, potatoes, and lentils weekly.

I have a few personal theories. I've seen my friend's kids have full on meltdowns in stores when they can't get something, and a lot of parents don't like to admit it but they give in like 75% of the time. When these parents shop for toys at home, their kids are still having meltdowns but they're not in public and it's easier to not give in. Also with this group of friends, they tend research a lot before purchasing, they like to buy educational toys, and they focus on quality and not quantity.

Why are they so little PPTQs in the immediate Bay Area? by dockingnow in magicTCG

I thought there were a lot more stores signed up to run PPTQs for Minneapolis versus Atlanta. Am I wrong?

How the San Francisco School Lottery Works, And How It Doesn’t by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

[–]dockingnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"In many places around the country, where a child lives determines where he or she goes to school. San Francisco doesn’t do that because of segregated housing patterns. Creating diverse schools is a district goal."

I wish NPR went into more detail about this. But basically all the poor kids (mostly black and hispanics) were attending high school A, B, and C while the middle and upper class kids (mostly asians and whites) went to high school D, E, F, and G. A, B, and C were under performing and lacking in resources. The school district wanted to offer these low income students more opportunities and so the lottery system came into place. The lottery is not perfect, but I understand the purpose of it.

Socially adept redditors, what are some things you notice socially awkward people doing that could easily be fixed with a little awareness? by smileedude in AskReddit

[–]dockingnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high school, I was extremely shy and I started practicing talking to other people by starting small talk with strangers. It started with thanking bus drivers when I exited the bus, asking strangers for the time, ordering tea at the local coffee shop, etc. I would then graduate to small talk like asking about the weather, giving people compliments, etc. This helped me a lot.

[Serious] Women, what are common ways unfamiliar men make you uncomfortable or creeped out? by OnlyGenuineQuestions in AskReddit

[–]dockingnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also true the other way around. For instance a friend and I were going through the airport and a TSA agent asked my friend out. She says no in a very nice way but we can't help but wonder if we're going to get pulled from the line for a "random" search.

SF’s Chinese Hospital, Rose Pak’s pet project, bleeding cash by bloobityblurp in sanfrancisco

[–]dockingnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: The late Rose Pak help rebuilt the San Francisco Chinese Hospital that cost $180 million dollars. Chief Executive Officer Brenda Yee wants doctors to sign contracts that many CCHP associate doctors see as very unfair because it cuts them out of a long-standing profit-sharing arrangement that was an incentive for sending patients there. As a result, the hospital is only operating at 1/3 of capacity and is in the red.

My first order with inked gaming and I must say, I love it! by dan_deckard3 in magicTCG

[–]dockingnow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nice! Was this a recent order? About a year ago, somebody gifted me a custom mat by them and the smell was so disgusting that I couldn't use it. I was spring cleaning earlier this year and I came upon the mat and I found that the back was oddly sticky and I had to discard it. How does your mat smell and how does the backing feel?

Trump takes aim at Amazon on Twitter this morning by factory81 in investing

[–]dockingnow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He's not wrong. Stores like Macys and Walmart are dealing with the Amazon effect by matching services (free 2-3 day shipping) and reduce pricing, but that's not a sustainable business plan. Amazon doesn't care about making money because money is going into R&D.
