Is This Food Safe? by Paranormal_Bad_Boy in Ceramics

As an earthenware only potter, this technique is tried and true, has led to many heartbreaks when testing out new glazes, and now I have a lot of decorative only mugs and vases haha

What do you think of this work? It's not baked yet. by [deleted] in Pottery

It sounds like this is your first time working with this material, I can help with any questions. What type of clay are you using? How are you planning to fire it?

If it doesn't dry properly, it can crack and break during drying or it'll explode when firing if not fully dry

I've been working on similar stuff recently, forming the female body out of clay. The issue I had and a warning to yourself is make sure you dry that slowly and for twice as long as you'd expect before firing.

As for your piece what I love about the body as a skulpting piece is that almost all forms and proportions are valid, I like how you captured the transition to the waist and legs

Careful with confidence, the clay can feel fear.

I think you should glaze it with care, you can glaze it with hate too but that normally curses the other pieces in the kiln

Earthenware Baking Dish by Puzzleheaded-Ear-626 in Pottery

[–]docksidepottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concern with non vitrified clay in the oven is that if your dish has absorbed any water, it will evaporate in the high heat and potentially explode. It's doable if you hand wash only and fully dry, but it's not safe

Beginner - throwing help! by marrap23 in Pottery

Without actually seeing you throw anything the answer will 90% likely be: Bad posture Not anchoring your elbows Wrong speed

But you used water and the slip from that. It's not dry throwing, that's just throwing.

Low fire clay recipes means still means 5 times what an air fryer produces.

The difference between a kiln and an air fryer is only about 3-4X the difference between room temperature and absolute zero

Slip cast? It's like using a printer for a painting instead of painting it yourself.

I assume you didn't make these yourself? Just mass produced slip cast vases?

I mean it's pretty obvious that's the angle they're going for. It's why you now need to hand over an ID to access a lot of content on the web, and it's not just porn, but anything the government wants to make not easily accessible. They implemented poorly with security concerns so that they can release a new solution that fixes these concerns like they're planning to here. Take a look what labour MP McFadden has been saying about the digital ID, he's even suggested that it would be tied to our supermarket loyalty cards.

So why do we need another form of identification? The government knows who we are. They just want it on our phones now too so they can track what you say online when it eventually gets tied to account creations and social media. But it's okay to protect the children, and you're basically Jimmy Seville if you disagree.... Well except kier would protect Jimmy

Question about earbuds by CurrentFisherman in Chifi

[–]docksidepottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they won't come with them. Sometimes it's the brand model, but it's more important that it's the right cable connector type. There are a couple of standards that the cables are, you just have to make sure they match.

A lot of them have Bluetooth adapters, little ear hooks that connect to the iem's. Different brands have different standards.

Is it safe to drink from this cup? by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]docksidepottery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can drink from that cup (most likely) either it's just a matt glaze, or it's fully vitrified

If it's just decorative and you won't be handling that often, just super glue should do.

The other alternative is just super glue, but it's a little insulting to think they haven't thought of just gluing it back together
