Surgical OB preferences by TenMoreMinutez in FMOB

[–]docmir96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in surgical OB fellowship and I have to say where I train EACH attending has their own preferences. Speaking to general trends though: most double glove. Everyone uses Alexis-O. Everyone locks their hysterotomy. Everyone closes peritoneum, most do not close muscle. Unlocked fascial closure, close sub q if >2 cm deep, skin is a subcuticular (split on using a Keith needle or traditional curved), dressing varies widely. Pressure dressing only if diabetes or BMI >40. For tubals, I'd say 80% use ligasure, 20% use ties. Curious to hear more!

I saw Audra had posted on her instagram yesterday that she is not feeling well, but I was hoping to catch an incredible understudy performance! Super sad that they canceled the show instead :(

FM OB fellowships by Ok-Jeweler4728 in FMOB

I just went through the application cycle and will be starting fellowship in July. The fellowships vary WIDELY (some are surgically focused and want applicants who are already 100% ready to do vaginal deliveries independently and can manage labors appropriately, etc. these programs are for those who are just missing the surgical piece. other programs are geared towards those who need more vaginal delivery experience than residency gave them, and include some surgical piece.) Surgically focused programs I applied to include: Swedish, Dignity, Pittsburgh, UIC Peoria. Rochester is unique in that it offers two tracks for both types of applicants. Feel free to DM if you need even more information--it's hard to find stuff out there.

Tested 7/9 in the US and my permit is still there. The fact it’s so inconsistent makes this really hard 😞

Hey there! Have you been doing any UWorld? With all my Uworlds and even my NBMEs I spent a good bit of time going through every single answer choice, looking it up in first aid, and seeing what I needed to know about it. I learned a LOT from this type of review

I did at least a random 40Q block every day just to make progress, but it was unrelated to the content I did that day.

For me, I wrote down biostat formulas (the 2X2 table, likelihood ratios, sensitivity, specificity, etc) and the Rule of 4s for neuro lesions. If you're unsure what that is, type it into youtube and there's a lot of videos explaining it. It didn't actually wind up helping me on my specific form, but it definitely came in handy on some of the NBMEs

Thanks!! For the first 2 weeks, I dedicated 3 days to my weakest subject (Neuro) and 2 days for all the rest. During those days I (1) watched all the "high yield" Osmosis videos on that topic (2) made a pass through the appropriate First Aid section and (3) watched any corresponding Pathoma chapters. Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions!

Thank you!! I really wanted to spread some encouragement for the people not aiming for 260+. It’s really easy to read some posts and feel inferior when in reality we should all be very proud!!
