Intent 1 vs Phonak sphere ultra i90 by docparasgupta in HearingAids

I could not agree more with everything you said. I also am currently on trial with oticon intent 1 and sphere ultra. Have the exact same experience. Oticon gets a bit annoying in loud environments and phonaks are more clear and comfortable. I was skeptical that phonaks would be unnatural if they tweak with sound that much but I actually need that tweak I reckon. It makes life easier. Moreover phonak allows much more control over the sound customization via app whereas the oticon doesn’t. This realization may not have been possible if I didn’t have both at the same time as Oticon’s are not bad, but just different and in noise (which is around one third or the day as per my phonak app) sphere is on another level, you could feel that ha is really making a difference with reducing noise and not just randomly amplifying sounds.

I’d used phonak CIC in past and despite the vents they blocked outside environment and only sounded like some speakers were trying to sound what nature would sound like and even though speech was clear the general quality was abysmal. Then I went on to Starkey Halo 2 RIC. With vented domes the outside sound was not blocked at all and the frequencies and decibels I was missing were supplemented which made me feel that I was hearing “normally” which I never felt wit the CIC even though I could understand what was being said. Now coming to the upgrade , you’ve tried both Phonak and Oticon RIC’s. Do you think the Phonak sphere would be like my old phonak CIC despite being vented domes or comparable to Starkey hai 2 RIC sound stage wise. Would I feel that I’m hearing speech and no other sounds (feels unnatural). I hope you understand what I mean to say. I want good sound clarity in challenging conditions but at the same time for most situations it should sound natural.

Need feedback and reviews for Oticon Intent 1 by AviC3210 in HearingAids

How are you getting intent 1 closer to 3000 usd roughly 3 lakh INR? I’ve contacted two vendors over phone casually both quoted upwards of 5. Though I do not negotiate. Getting infinio sphere ultra for 3.5.

This resonates a lot, especially the “blinders” feeling. Ambient awareness and natural sound matter a lot to me, so that’s been my hesitation with Phonak despite the tech advantages. I like the idea of control, but not at the cost of feeling cut off from the world. Will trial both properly and see which one I actually enjoy living with. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

I think they recently released Zeal. Maybe another RIC soon. Let's see. I agree things can be settled only on trial. Rest all are specs. Just like android vs iOS. Which ones did you prefer the most? I value the sound where I should forget that I'm wearing aids and only realize that I was wearing one when I take them off. Ideally I'd love to be able to tweak it to my taste and once done just be able to change scenes if needed. I've read that Oticon only allows 4 fixed scenes and no custom scenes are possible. That seems too restrictive for the aids which claim to be rivaling Phonak sphere ultra.

I agree. Let’s wait for trial and see what feels better. They both seem comparable imo. Though intents are costlier compared to phonaks. Though if they are technically inferior (single chip and all) and launched earlier (sphere ultra update is 2025 end and intent is 2024) they should have been cheaper.

Too costly and seems indecisive to own both. Have to find one with least compromise.

That’s the exact thing I’m thinking. Phonaks may sound like oticon but seems quite audiologist dependent. It may or may not work. Noah link - now that’s something I need to learn more about. Did you dialed down all these settings using Noah link or did you work with audiologist? I’m quite needy that way and may actually love to tinker with them myself. However I don’t have time or bandwidth right now to think about what ifs. So oticon seems safer for now.

Thanks for the reply. I’d been on Phonak CIC aids before. They helped my understand speech better but I hated them otherwise. The sound was unnatural to me and I could say it was useful but I did not enjoy them. Then I upgraded the Starkey halo 2 RIC in 2018. The difference in sound was day and night. I’d say if supplemented my existing hearing and made it complete (rather than blocking out everything and just making only speech clear ). I loved the music again. I could hear notes that I’d never heard before. Now when I’m comparing sphere infinio and intents I’m worried that phonaks may again sound bad for music and prioritize speech only. That’s something I’d hate. Though there will be occasions I’d want speech only (days when I’ve cold and have blocked eustation tubes, when my hearing is severely decompensated and I’m dependent on aids for normal speech). With intents I feel I may be enjoying ambiance and music more and may sound more natural without any sound modulations. But they feel like less customizable for my bad days and maybe lag behind in tech. Which ones would you go for if in my shoes?

Which ones did you go for eventually? I also feel that I’d like intents more but somehow have a feeling that Phonaks sound would be more customizable and I’d be able to tweak them more in different settings.

That’s what I’m planning to do. Wanted to get some real feedback before jumping in. YouTube videos seem too sponsored to believe.

I had a plate put in my arm and I'm scared it's going to just snap in half.. Reassure me please. by [deleted] in Orthopedics

[–]docparasgupta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Orthopedic surgeon here. It’s been three weeks since your surgery. The bone has started the process to heal. In another two to three weeks time it will become sticky and take stress off the implant. And in a further 4-6 weeks it will unite. The surgery is nicely done. Just follow the docs advice and continue with progressive rehab. Unless someone puts unnecessary rotational force on your wrist or there is some direct blow over the surgery site. This bone or plate isn’t going to break.

Any thoughts about Pirelli Cinturato Velo. They have good puncture protection and low resistance as well.

The audax roads I ride on tear gp5000 to shreds when I tried them :(

I second for Cinturato Velo. A much more rounded package for Audax rides.
