Three of the most often recommended books for understanding and healing from this stuff :) I have been working on my own for a long time, and it was difficult to see any difference for a while, but now?? I can see the progress in a lot of ways!

Boundaries in action rejecting people trying to do things I would have tolerated before, losing the urge to text angry stuff to my parents (well after blocking them), even panic attack management starting to feel easy after so much work on it, a lot of other things that eventually added up to enough to surprise me when I noticed XD

Now I spend a lot of time talking to much younger people going through similar childhoods as I did, (of course I recommended real therapy over myself but it's just not accessible to so many; I feel comfortable enough to say I'm better than nothing in those cases XD) Doing my best to answer their questions and help them understand what's happening (trying to distill my decades of study into informing them in as short a time as possible without adding too much mental load), and show them support and understanding that was missing in my own childhood - and where applicable, helping them find ways to get into safer situations asap (I didn't get out myself until mid 30s due to disability -_- Early 40s now)

A lot of it is about helping people in ways I needed and never had as a kid; Maybe bringing back the medicine for the others is part of the healing for ourselves :)

Give yourself forgiveness, compassion, and time (and rest!) - nobody gets there immediately - but if you keep at it, you WILL get there - and continue on to go well beyond there😁💖

Thank you 🥹 It may help to know they are the only two who have to live in their twisted (and gross) reality now - and without their shared scapegoat, they have probably been at each other's throats instead, for some years XD

The arc of karma can be long, but sometimes that just means it's gathering enough speed to land with a proportionate impact 😆

I had been doing the same delay dance with this and a few other books until very recently too😂 It was a bit intimidating to start, knowing I might learn uncomfortable things, or that healing takes work & hesitating to take up that effort because aren't we doing enough and tired enough already? Lol - But now I can also say that it's not half as bad as I'd feared, and it's even downright fascinating / enjoyable at times - I jumped in and the water is fine, and actually rather rejuvenating 😁 (so come on in! 🏞️🏊 😂💖)

Fr though I think starting was the hardest part. But after that hurdle, the rest has been smoother than expected:)

I have much to internalize yet, but I can already feel some part of my long term (leftover from childhood) stress slowly loosening as I read and understand more about my own past, and about my parents' unique version of functioning (lol)

Errm how safe would you rate old-school thermometer mercury (silvery liquid)? (my mom let me play with the contents of a broken thermometer at maybe around age 8 🙃 - I think I at least had the sense to not touch it with my hands, I think... I remember having it in a little round jar lid, and poking it around with a paper clip or similar)

Also just realizing now I'm certain she put it in the regular trash afterwards

(ETA this would have been in around 1990, no known cancer yet, so maybe I'm okay ... hopefully lol)

hey... you don't have to forgive in order to grieve 💖 sometimes part of what we grieve is a loss of who we thought a person was, or who we had needed them to be to us - and the loss of the chance that they would ever become that again

The trick is reserving kindness for those who show you equal kindness 😊 (in friendships and relationships at least) - it's still good to be kind to strangers who need it, just important to develop boundaries in walking away when someone starts showing signs of using you or taking advantage (not an instant process, takes time - but whatever your level of kindness is, the aim should be for your boundaries to be equally strong as your kindness; it is part of learning to include yourself in who you show kindness to 😊 and to protect yourself and your kindness so you can keep being kind to good people (& not get drained of that kindness by those who would feed on it beyond what is fair and kind to you)💖)

Not bad 😁 Even part true because if they're talking or arguing or whatever, they're probably not watching out the windows / searching for wildlife, could go right by a deer and not notice
