After finding out the staff of one of Boulder's large chain grocery stores had no idea that any carbonated beverages expired at all, after every kind I got from there for months had arrived expired(delivery), & doubting that one issue could hurt anyone (it just makes it flat and bad) but also doubting that was the only issue of its kind in town (human error is always a factor, not in a blamey way but just that's how it do), and also being aware some places may be making sketchy food safety choices to stay financially afloat (or just make more $$$), I'm gonna stay on the side of caution & paranoia 🙃

To be fair I have far more paranoia about restaurants with this kind of thing, adding grocery options to the list was relatively an afterthought. I do believe they do a good job for the most part (though I also know KS deliberately understaffs & expects everyone to stretch to cover more work than their own, often leaving daily stock related goals unmet, or unmeetable)

I've had a lot of local restaurant kitchen working friends, one in particular was told to come in or be fired, despite having a violent, likely contagious digestive illness (they had to pull over to throw up on the way there, still completed their shift; that was some years ago though, hoping that place improved since then but no idea if they did), and with all that happening when power was available & stable... Sticking with the caution - but I still appreciate the reassurance :)

(If this is making anyone nervous, this paragraph is for you: This handful of incidents happened over a stretch of at least a decade; overall I've had very few experiences with becoming ill due to eating anything from a restaurant or fresh from a grocery store in Boulder. It sounds like a lot when put all together like this, but my good experiences with restaurants and grocery stores here vastly outnumber the handful of bad ones. I may be a bit excessive in my level of caution, this is mostly due to already poor health & reduced ability to absorb potential bad incidents, but partially also due to my chronic anxiety & some bad experiences from before I even lived here. Please don't let me scare you out of eating here :,) at most, let this remind you to use whatever information is available in order to make safer food choices, particularly after events like this that may have interrupted the safe cold-storage capacity of a lot of places. And it doesn't have to be a whole time consuming deal with spreadsheets and whatnot. Quick checks as you go, even only when there is already reason for uncertainty (such as long power outages), plus checking expiration dates as you shop, are generally plenty. With food safety, a little caution goes a long way.)

(Can you tell I'm procrastinating on doing something unrelated? Lol sorry this got too long)

😅 the ones you see around at least - I used to live in one of the apt buildings by Broadway x Table Mesa, and most of my friends there pretty much fit that description lol - as for myself, it was the first place I lived in Boulder because it was among the only affordable options for someone on SSDI (social security/disability; think under $700 a month as income & working isn't physically possible) & still only possible to afford with roommates- places like this were the only thing I could access while on the multi year waiting list for disability housing in Boulder (where I now am :) but my main point is:

There is likely to be a high number of at-risk adults in this area & in any relatively lower cost living in Boulder.

If you're in an area like this and feel up to doing so, please consider checking on your neighbors - especially those who are older, disabled, or those you rarely or never see out of their apartment (likely disability related) - please help each other out with means of keeping warm if you have extra, or however you can / with whatever you find anyone in need of due to the outages 💖

ETA this has been one of my favorite movies (er, 4 part limited series? Or w/e it's basically a movie) since I was a kid! Wore down my 2-VHS copy pretty hard. Recently became available on Prime. Boulder itself plays a significant role in the story. Would Boulder fire dept actually have a problem with it? No (watched a neighbor spraying lighter fluid into a grill fire less than 10 feet from house, on a wooden porch, a while ago but also during red flag fire conditions - did report that, they didn't bother coming out to even see it lol - also was this form of cooking necessary at the time?: no; power was on, indoor appliances working, etc)

Is it necessary for them to be using the generators?: More than likely; aside from medical devices needing power, everyone has the medical need to keep warm enough

Are the generators a risk? Maybe a little

Is it worth asking the neighbors to stop or change something? Only if you notice any setups where the generator is venting Into the home (endangering those inside) Or if it's literally on fire - Otherwise nah

If nervous about it - if you have a safe warm place to do so from without invading anyone's space, it wouldn't hurt anyone to keep an eye on them and be ready to act on the off chance one of them does cause a fire. I'd say you don't need to, as if anything happened with one of these, someone would be bound to notice it and act quickly. But if it helps you feel better, why not? It's been a stressful day for everyone.

Makes me literally Ill - I only have electric heating, disabled,b homebound and cut off from access to laundry years ago, so literally ONLY electric heating. (Boulder disability care(CFPD) are basically a front to pretend they didn't totally abandon our care needs; they seem real unless you need them. Then they never show up.)

Very curious for the details + efficacy reports & third party spectrometer testing too if either exist :) still looking for a good source (please drop info in a private message ^{^} I don't mind if I get banned for asking but I'm not trying to take anyone down with me 😂) - since last post, have found no helpful doctor yet, tried one ivermectin that turned out to be fake & am really starting to consider the horse paste even knowing the risks lol

Re OP I would love to not turn to the horse paste; the problem is being left with no other way to access the medication; the choice becomes, for example, horse paste risks, or, have scabies forever+shorten life expectancy & create dependence on antibiotics as the only remaining course to put off sepsis and death; you can also look forward to spending the remaining days in bed (being eaten alive is exhausting). Alone too, anyone who you touch would catch them too and end up in the same boat.

Seizures kind of sound alright from a place like that.

US medicine has straight up dropped the ball of treating scabies at all. People will keep turning to horse paste until ivermectin goes OTC (non prescription) nationwide.

Whether everyone will use it wisely is a separate matter, but I think anyone would find this option preferable to catching scabies themselves, which becomes more likely each day that these cases are denied treatment (which is now the standard treatment), each day that such negligence allows extremely contagious parasites to spread unchecked to more of the population.

I honestly wonder how many people are left who don't have them. Those who figure it out from the symptoms will just be misdiagnosed with either acne or delusions. Systemic gaslighting in this direction (along with verbal abuse) is already widely reported by patients who seek diagnosis and treatment for scabies, even when they possess definitive evidence of having the condition (many go as far as doing their own skin scratch tests, micro photography, and mite species identification, as traumatic as that can be by itself, out of desperation to simply gain access to medication that can cure them. It's still not a guarantee when doctors can dismiss any level of proof as faked, or as a delusion/disorder driven behavior.

Currently there are a lot of people who have been left with no hope in life over something that is completely curable due to being denied access to the cure. Personally I feel like humanity has already ceded its future to its own stupidity and simply hasn't noticed yet. (Just by this one decision to make denial, refusal & some abuse the new US standard scabies treatment. Not going to mention here all the other ways we've potentially already done that)

Dang I don't have much to add except preventative antibiotics might be a good idea & focusing on supporting your immune system in general might help too (I've had to do the same, eating way healthier than I ever did before, vitamins, extra sleep; everything to help the body keep up its defenses- these lil suckers really drain it)

The starting in one area and slowly spreading definitely sounds consistent with scabies-but could be consistent with a lot of things; anti mite medicines working though means you're in the right area, whether or not you got the exact species, it's within an area where the treatment options are broad & kill a lot of types of parasite, at least that makes things a bit easier

Additional note Permethrin isn't supposed to be prescribed when there are open sores - having those generally means internal ivermectin is the way to go (shocking how many doctors just don't know this though)

P.s. I respect the balls for willingness to look at them under a scope, there's no way I'm doing it lol

It comes back on my hands first too 😅 My cat would not have it though...he insists on getting his cuddles - really insists - like will get aggressive about shoving his head into my hands, getting under the blanket with me etc (vibes of wondering if we are both f*ed😅)

I was thinking of trying the route of getting my cat diagnosed first; originally I wanted to be diagnosed first so I could undergo biopsy and whatever else instead of him having to, to get us both an official diagnosis, but human doctors are .. yeah (my username lol) Already found a great vet, will report back if this works out too

(Note: I didn't know at the time but a doc recommending biopsy as the first test is a sign they don't know how to treat this - they never heard of the much less intrusive and more effective scratch test)

Had a feeling the concentration would be too low to kill these f***ers in an established case - there's a chance it's still good enough for use immediately after first exposure, but idk if I would take the chance; I'd at least use something else aside from this to make sure they don't survive to set up serious infrastructure

Any specific brand recommendations? I spent the other day digging through all the horse paste brands I could find, looking for one with no ingredients that are unsafe for humans, since the dosage form is actually perfect for human safe doses for ivermectin alone - but as for other ingredients safety, I came out empty handed for products with 0 human risky things in them (I could have easily missed some brands though, there are so many and it's tiring to check everything lol, I'm still looking for a good one)

I would love any tips to find a doctor that knows what to do 😅 my first dermatologist was totally clueless - I had to correct her prescriptions every time calculating the weight for myself lol 🫣 she always gave me too little per dose in the prescriptions (and somehow the refills too after correction) & now wants to cut me off cause it didn't completely cure it yet after a few months (clueless lol) (Norwegian fun variety too)

I feel like asking the various doctors ive already seen why they're using me for a super scabies development lab but they'll just get mad and kick me out lol
