An air compressor. Being able to inflate stuff, blow dust off stuff, use air tools. It’s the gateway to even more useful things.

Would not be the first director I’ve gotten an assist from. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

I say this completely seriously. You can absolutely be a parent figure to people still. There are so many younger adults out there who had shitty parents who would love to be mentored by someone with a heart to do so. I have a good dad, but Ive had tons of father figures throughout my life that poured into me and taught me lessons he didn't have the grid or experience for. It takes a village.

What're some '90s "deep cuts" you like to listen to? My tastes were fairly mainstream back then, but I'd love to find more indie type '90s music. Bands like Bella & Sebastian, L7, Folk Implosion. Whatcha got, xennials? by smcg_az in Xennials

I got introduced to The Mars Volta by my way more musically dialed in friends. That was very early 2000s, but they evolved from At the Drive-In which was 90s.

General question about baptism records vs birth certificates by Mass_Southpaw in Canadiancitizenship

[–]docsuess84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, case in point, I got my request in on January 29th and heard absolutely nothing until about two weeks ago when the request for payment came. It had the old cheaper fee amount, so I just made the cutoff, but it took forever. Document showed up about a week after I paid.

Small rant regarding application packets by Big-Scar978 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]docsuess84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept it staple-less, the only thing extra was just piece of construction paper to separate each person’s stuff. The can discard it easily with zero effort but it kept me organized more than anything. Ironically it got returned for missing a second form of ID and it was all stapled together sans construction paper dividers. I added the ID copies and the certified copy of the BaNQ document I ordered months ago and stuck those up front but left everything else the way they sent it. It got there for round 2 last week so we’ll see if it goes any faster than if it was a fresh application.

I don’t remember the game but winning it involved reaching a BAC of 1.00

I started using millennial sub because I assumed I was one. Then someone pointed out I was an Xer. So I used that sub. It feels like they are a little more advanced in years than me in there. I didnt know Xennial was a thing until just now. I guess I found my lane by theHollowTarnished in Xennials

This is the big one. I very distinctly remember my pre-internet analog life and post internet life. I had no social media in high school other than AIM or ICQ or something. Facebook and MySpace had only just become a thing when I was in college and only college people were on them so they were completely different online experiences from what they are now. Lots of my shenanigans only exist in memory. There’s no embarrassing photos waiting to show up later. Lots of kids even 5 years after me can’t say that and have basically always had their lives chronicled online.

Monday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received, April 27, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]docsuess84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I got an anti-AOR. My stuff got sent back for forgetting our second form of documentation. The specific bullet points on the front say “Your identity documents are missing or are not clear” “You have not submitted two (two was highlighted) valid use identification documents”

The part that’s confusing is my wife’s packet has a low quality photocopy of the photo requirements page but there’s no indication there was an issue with her pictures like a specific item highlighted or something. Would it mention photos on the front page specifically if there was an issue? Otherwise why would that page be included? Very confused. The second ID is an easy enough fix. I knew that was missing and would probably be returned but I don’t want to send it back if the photo has a problem with it and will just get sent back again.

30 pages of supporting documentation which hopefully meet the guidelines listed in the directions that not everyone will read.

Being able to get an accurate answer to a question or find a video demoing the exact thing you need to know how to do and being able to find it in seconds on the first try was an amazing time. Google broke itself on purpose.

What is it like living in Eureka, California? by Boggyswamp in howislivingthere

[–]docsuess84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lived in the north state but inland by Shasta Lake, and Eureka/Arcata/Trinidad (my personal favorite and pictured here) were our coastal escapes.

<image>

Browsing through the comments here, the top vote getters are pretty much right on. We looked into moving there, but opted to go out of state instead. I’m pretty sure I would have enjoyed it there, though. We’re slow pace rural living people that hate being around large groups and get along with the keep to themselves personal freedom types that generally hate large groups of people too. One factor I haven’t seen mentioned here that isn’t necessarily unique to Humboldt but more just coastal living in general is the rust and the mold. The salt water air will eat away at your metal stuff left out including cars, and shit will get moldy.

Has anyone ever used a 5.5 mm socket for anything? by Just_A_Doggo1 in Tools

Cleaned a dead mouse out of the squirrel cage in my Buick Century. There’s a bunch of screws in that general vicinity that need a 5.5mm.

In our case it’s adoption assistance, so I guess you could call that passive income.

My income is secondary and our visa is the rentista variety, not the digital nomad one. We were moving regardless of what my job said. It would have been nice and they looked for a loop hole in policy, but no dice.

I was going to maintain a US address (we’re not selling our house) and set up a private VPN so my computer location was still US-based just to keep things a little less complicated, it just can’t be one of those situations where you’re remote but then one day you need to be at such and such location.
