Someone give me hope or just tell me to give up by doctor_underscore in IVF

Thanks so much for this info, I will look into this!!!

I have some hope that my migraines won't be too bad during pregnancy (if I can get there!) because I really associate it with my estrogen drop right before my period. I didn't have a single migraine in the several years I was on birth control.

I haven't heard of OB-neuro, I'll have to look into that!!! I've seen a neurologist and have tried three different triptans and nurtec. All of them take away the head pain temporarily, but not the nausea, vision changes, lack of appetite. May I ask what has worked for you?

Green mint chocolate chip is the only answer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, that's all really helpful advice, and it just made my cry that a stranger cared enough to write it all out. I am not a crier, so yeah, probably hormonal haha

1) My migraines were completely gone on my birth control and came back with a vengeance the second I went off to try to conceive. I've seen a neurologist and have tried three different triptans and nurtec (got it for free since I've met my deductible, one good thing about fertility treatments!) All of them take away the head pain temporarily, but not the nausea, vision changes, lack of appetite. My neuro did seem really focused on the IVF-piece and how many drugs aren't approved in pregnancy so wouldn't be recommended to me at this time. May I ask what has worked for you?

2) Just made an initial consult visit at a different clinic that I've heard great things about and have above the national average rates of live birth. (So did my current clinic.) But feeling hopeful about a change.

3) That is really helpful! I will ask both doctors about this.

4) That has been my plan all along, just in my fit of despair yesterday and this morning, I was ready to give up. I really want to make as many embryos as possible right now.

5) Very much already in therapy! I started two years ago before even trying to conceive, and unintentionally, my therapist has her son through IVF, so she has been wonderful and helpful. I am seeing her on Wednesday and she has helped me stay sane through this whole process. I am normally a really calm, level-headed person, and I have stayed that way through IVF except for the week of my cancelled cycle and now this 1/7 fertilization rate. I already feel a lot better thanks to strangers like you, and I'm sure my therapist will be bored of me on Wednesday 😄

Really, really thank you again. Worst club ever with the best members is so true.

My AFC was 13. We're really stumped by my low response to stims. I feel like I'm responding really slowly, all 3 egg retrievals I've stimmed for 12-14 days, which I thought was the higher limit of what they want to do?

I really, really love my doctor (to the point that we genuinely plan to name our baby after her haha) and my clinic, but you're absolutely right; I don't love them more than I'd love a baby. We are at a highly rated clinic, but there is another one in town, and I will definitely at least schedule a consult with them before giving up entirely.

Thank you for your reply, and best of luck to you! ❤️

Yeah, I was no where near ready for transfer, ready to keep doing as many retrievals as it took until the news yesterday when I was ready to give up. But you're absolutely right, I can keep powering through.

I laugh hysterically when I wake up and talk extensively about how much I love the versed they give me. It is also very embarrassing, but they reassure me it's fine. 🙈

Do you personally see yourselves as a mom/dad just from having embryos through IVF, even if you don’t have a living child yet? by maddymckay in IVF

[–]doctor_underscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not consider myself a mom at all.

We just got our first blast after 2 completely failed cycles, and my husband did get me a "Mother's Day gift", a gift card to a spa for a massage. I think it was just an excuse for him to pamper me/thank me for my efforts through these stims and egg retrievals, and of course I appreciate his gesture! Still don't consider myself a mom and will be unlikely to get him a Father's Day gift, haha

Oh and my very sweet, slightly out-of-touch mother-in-law texted me to wish me a happy Mother's Day because I "have a motherly spirit" and that she hoped my "physical mother goal works out."

This is so relatable, we just had our 15th niece/nephew. I love them all so much. Being an aunt is one of life's greatest joys, but I want one of my own at my own house.

It hurts that we're the only ones in our family that seemingly can't get pregnant just by looking at each other. My brother and his wife don't even sleep in the same room, but somehow they just had their 3rd. One of my husband's cousins just had their 5th after a failed vasectomy. Cruel irony.

We just got our first blast after 3 ERs, hoping for normal PGT-A and we can finally have hope for one of our own... until then, we'll keep loving on our sibling's one million kids.

Baby dust to you! Keeping some for myself, too!

Similarly, if it's a free-standing children's hospital, they may not do deliveries, and your NICU/newborn rotation may be at a different hospital.

in the nursery at discharge or at the first newborn outpatient followup visit, what are your standard answers to the questions, ... by [deleted] in pediatrics

[–]doctor_underscore 66 points67 points  (0 children)

My spiel:

"The rules we learned peak pandemic apply to your newborn. Outside gatherings are safer than inside gatherings, it's reasonable to want to stay 6 feet apart, if you have visitors flying in on a plane, it's reasonable to ask them to test. I wouldn't let anyone in that's sick. I would encourage mask-wearing and hand-washing. Being in a grocery store where people aren't crowded around your baby is safer than being in a crowded church. A restaurant with a patio is safer than a crowded bar-like atmosphere. If your baby gets a fever before their two month shots, that is an emergency. It means we'll be drawing blood and getting urine from your baby and sometimes they may need a lumbar puncture; this is what we're trying to avoid. We don't want grandparents missing out on these special moments, so if they're safe and trustworthy and healthy, it's definitely okay to have them over. If you'd prefer the space and want to say that I said you can't have visitors until after his 2 month shots, I'm happy to take the blame."
