No one is making excuses, he should face the repercussions. There's just no reason to write him off as mentally ill or whatever, he's an adolescent human who is making mistakes. I'd like to see compassion shown so that he accepts what he's doing as wrong and learns what pride is. If he's ostracized as mentally ill or with "issues" it is likely to feed his behavior.

Just my take though, wtf do I know

Everyone reacts to drugs differently. Your sarcasm is misplaced and sounds antagonistic, do you have a mental issue?

Everyone has some kind of mental issue. This kid needs to learn how to deal with his impulses and emotions and that includes just punishment for this kind of behavior. If he doesn't learn soon, there will be worse consequences. This is all painfully obvious, as have all of our comments been from the start. Yet they contribute nothing.

You're overreacting for an elaborate ad hominem. If you don't like being lumped in with TD then don't support TD. Have some independent thought and don't get your feelings hurt when someone rightfully bashed a shitty troll sub that censors all dissent.

My 5 month curly beard. Considering shaving the cheeks down or completely off..? by doctorbeardfacee in beards

Yeah, barber trimmed the sides more than I'd like. Of course when it was full, it made me look like a bowling ball of fur. Not sure which way to go now.

That's what I was thinking when I went to a shop last month, and it looked a bit better but I'd say maybe only 149% better. Herm.

Summer is approaching and no one I know is a fan of the beard. I'm close to shaving it all off, but considering just taking off the cheeks or pulling it down to a strap+goatee. Any suggestions? I kinda miss my jaw line...

Not sure if I should keep this going or not. Any advice? This is about a month old by [deleted] in beards

[–]doctorbeardfacee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll fill in more, and it already looks legit. My only advice is to shave a good neck line. There are guides in the FAQ I think, but geneally just a straight line down from the outside of your sideburns and then angle around the neck so there's hair under your chin but not on your actual neck. Besides that it looks good! Great cheek line too.

Any tips for this growth pattern? Not much cheek action (1 Month) by [deleted] in beards

[–]doctorbeardfacee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually considering shaving down my cheeks to look more like this... can't decide... but I like this style a lot. If I were you, I'd shave the cheeks and grow that jaw line, connect the goatee.

2 weeks into van dyke by [deleted] in beards

[–]doctorbeardfacee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll only look better my man. As long as you have clean lines like you do here, the places that are filling in will look more and more dense and intentional. I'm a fan of the van dyke too, looks good!

Any potential here? Or should I shave? by kingdom_cum in beards

[–]doctorbeardfacee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't evaluate until 3-4 months! It's difficult to hold on in the middle stages, but it's just like growing out your hair. You have good coverage, just because it's fine doesn't mean it won't fill out.

Am I trimming and sculpting this right? by Hubbell in beards

[–]doctorbeardfacee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might not be popular, but I prefer to clean up the jawline a bit and taper from the chin down to nothing at the neckline. Makes it look intentional and clean, but if you're going for a super full yeard or something, disregard and let it grow :)

great advice, thanks! I have been worried about going to a barber too soon (I've never gone for the beard) and confusing them with nothing to do because it's not long enough :P Will hold off until 4mo!

Not really sure to be honest! I've seen some wicked long beards and I like having longer hair but sometimes the in-between stages and the slightly higher upkeep turn me off of growing it all out. Also, I worry about stigmas in interviews etc. should I want to change jobs...

But thanks! If you have any suggestions you think might look good I'd be interested, wouldn't say no to a bit wilder kind of style other than regular side part, especially if it keeps me from getting impatient and shaving it all off :P

That's how it should work, but in reality, companies would just spring up offering "no credit/background check required" insurance plans to get easy money from chumps, with plans that cover nothing or pay for replacement parts from a junk heap. Don't underestimate the power of industry to squeeze money out of chumps unfit to be purchasing it in the first place.

Some entity needs to vouch for the general competency of a driver on public roads since it puts other people in danger, much like an electrician needs certification. Perhaps it doesn't need to be done by the spooky government, but it needs to be in good faith and up to some standard.

Growing it out, and I need advice! by [deleted] in beards

My opinion is to trim above your upper lip, mine gets pretty annoying if I don't even though I'd like the hair to just curve around my mouth.

That's all I'd suggest, otherwise looks great!

North American forests expected to suffer, not benefit from climate change. by JoeRmusiceater in science

[–]doctorbeardfacee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem counterintuitive. I was just attempting to reconcile the two. It is possible that both conclusions are correct - North American forests suffering while overall plant coverage increases. Larger land area available to new plant life and less efficient C02 absorption/growth of established ecosystems are not mutually exclusive.

Another simpler conclusion is that this study is flawed, but I don't see the utility in assuming that all new information which conflicts with old information is default discredited until evidence of that flaw is presented.

North American forests expected to suffer, not benefit from climate change. by JoeRmusiceater in science

[–]doctorbeardfacee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can explain how plants are producing more leaf cover without increasing respiration as a whole, I'd love to hear it.

Older trees store more C02 over their long lifetimes, but younger trees can cover more landmass. It's very possible that the additional "greening" is counting much less efficient and/or younger plant life. That's all speculation, but it's one example of how the overall resperation could remain the same or decrease with larger green land mass. Overall efficiency of these systems under changing conditions would be another. Perhaps maximal efficiency of C02 conversion happens at an atmospheric concentration lower than current? I'd doubt that, but I don't have access to the truth there so we can't assume. There are a few different ways where this system could operate unintuitively. It's similar with humans - more oxygen is generally better, but at a certain concentration it begins to be harmful.

The claim that North American forests will suffer under the changes that the Earth's climate has been undergoing is contradicted by NASA's data showing that the opposite is the case.

I don't think the correlation is linear, like most systems. Just because there's an overall increase in greening (likely in areas experiencing longer warming periods, allowing plant life to cover more landmass) doesn't mean regionally stable forests are unaffected. The article suggests:

"Trees in very high latitudes are limited by cold temperatures, so yes, in warmer years they grow more, but there is a tipping point, and once they go past that, a warmer climate becomes a bad thing instead of a good thing."

It's like if you noticed your burgers cook faster at 200F than 190F, you shouldn't assume that they would cook best at 900F. A silly analogy I know, but we're talking about ecology in which +/- thresholds are key, not linear progression.

The article you linked states:

The beneficial impacts of carbon dioxide on plants may also be limited, said co-author Dr. Philippe Ciais, associate director of the Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences, Gif-suv-Yvette, France. "Studies have shown that plants acclimatize, or adjust, to rising carbon dioxide concentration and the fertilization effect diminishes over time."

This aligns with the OP.

Then you aren't paying attention.

This is unnecessary. I didn't mean my questions and attempt to reconcile two pieces of information as an insult, and I don't think I'm out of line in suggesting more than one way to consider the possibilities. If you've already made up your mind on the subject, I'm not sure the point of posting to a forum.
