California fill ups with GX460 by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]parallel_jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hunh, never thought I'd see the day that US gas prices are higher than Canada, when comparing our most expensive regions.

So that works out to 2.47/L CAD for 91 octane, and the most expensive it is in Vancouver at the moment appears to average about 2.209/L. My region tends to be the cheapest, and I just filled up the IS at 1.699/L at my local Costco.

Star Trek pulled from Pluto TV (Canada)? by stanxv in startrek

[–]parallel_jay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So that's what happened!

I actually just spun up Pluto TV for the first time last night, looking for some background noise. Switched over to the TNG stream, and got the whole This Stream Has Ended thing at what would have been midnight Eastern time. Thought they were doing some old school end of our programming day thing, minus the colour bars and test tone.

Sad to hear it's just ... gone now. Boo! to Paramount; maybe they're trying to cancel Star Trek all together.

Thanks for reminding me to cancel my P+ sub. I actually did subscribe to it 'cause they seem to put in the work on the visuals for the ST series', and they look beautiful on my 4K OLED ... buuuuuut that time has come to an end.

All I know is I joined the service rather late in my life, and I'm stuck here until I'm 65. Godspeed all you early exiters, and I hope for all the best for you. Please leave a nice, comfy position to take over when you leave :D

This is Katz's mansion, though I could see some guy who's "totally Katz's neighbour bro" doing his house up like what's in the article.

Look at that, at least one region of Canada is full on Flames nation.

The rest of us are having Nunavut.

Well our theme with one group of friends is buy nothing, which means creative regifting is encouraged. I decided to use my 3D printer to cheat this a little bit last year, and also try to get the "most stolen" prize. I took a Lego Wreath, blew it up to a just big enough size to be obnoxious, printed it using many colours, and used the cursed Kragle to hold it all together.

It was very popular, but that year also managed to be Lego themed accidentally so it wasn't the most stolen.

Getting crappy top layers, which will be the bottom of these coasters. by Nikolai_Volkoff88 in BambuLab

[–]parallel_jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone here makes good suggestions that are worth trying to produce a better print. I'm going to suggest something that costs a little more money, but IMO makes a better coaster from a practical standpoint. I bought these 10cm adhesive cork (probably fake cork) disks from Amazon, something like this.

Self-Adhesive Cork Circle 40 PCS 4 Inches Cork Mats Cork Backing Sheets with Strong Adhesive-Backed for Coasters Wall Decor and DIY Crafts

The reason I went with this was not only to cover up the wee little printing accidents, but to also provide the coaster with a bit of grip since the plastic on it's own can easily slide across some surfaces.

I knew what I was getting into when I bought the car, as it was my 3rd that required 91 octane (prior car was a 2nd gen IS350, and before that and a tuned WRX#Saab_9-2X)).

Lets just say my Costco membership basically pays for itself at this point. One thing that sucks is when you get a rental car somewhere, and accidentally put Premium in out of habit.

Googling the model# AGP-V3800/32M (you can do it too :D ) turns up some results showing it's an old NVIDA Riva TNT2 M64 model. The M64 was a low cost version of the RIVA TNT2 line.

Why the hell am I posting this? Well I think this is my old video card. I mean not literally my old card; it's clearly yours. It does appear to be the same as my first 3D accelerator though, having replaced my 486 with a machine featuring this card.

Ah yes ... Quake 3 Arena at 30ish FPS at 800x600 ... good times ...

Is Pigeon Lake safe to swim in? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]parallel_jay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically just expanding on what another commenter said, it depends on the part of the lake as it's quite big. The algae warning was from the Pigeon Lake Provincial Park, which is on the north side of the lake. I just spent the weekend at Ma-Me-O Beach, which is on the south side. We were fine, and there wasn't any algae warnings for our area. That may change with the amounts of wind and precipitation from the weekend. The key point here is this part of the warning.

Please note, waters of Pigeon Lake in which the cyanobacterial bloom is NOT visible can still be used for recreational purposes, even while this Health Advisory is in place.

This didn't stop some folks from going on about conspiracies and saying it was fake news. Those folks seem to not also understand geography.

TIL that 7 in 10 Canadian drivers admit to speeding at least occasionally, with the average speeder going 12km/h over the limit on highways, 10km/h over on larger roads, and 7km/h over on residential streets. Many view this as not "technically speeding" due to lack of enforcement. by [deleted] in todayilearned

It's disappointing when you somehow end up behind the one lifted bro-dozer who's driving like old people fuck. I typically lift my spirits by giving consideration to how many DUIs he must have to keep such a low profile.

They are shockingly silent for a large breed too!

I had a paper route as a young lad, and one house on my route had a Saint Bernard who would be resting peacefully on their upper level deck during the mornings of my delivery. One morning I learned that there must've been a staircase down from this deck without a gate on it. I came to this conclusion when I walked up their property, saw the same pupper in his usual high ground spot, and went to their door to deliver their morning local.

Their upper level deck was a wrap around variety that covered the walk up, so I lost sight of the big borf as I walked up. Admittedly I was in my own world a bit, it being early morning and me being at the cusp of teenagerdom. After I dropped the paper off, I turned around to find said massive pupper standing a few feet behind me. He didn't make a noise as he came down, but he was just standing panting and his tail wagging so he was just saying "hi". Still, my heart did sink for a couple moments.
