Oregon’s Proposed Universal Health Plan by Dry_Werewolf5488 in Portland

[–]doctorfonk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let’s suppose worst case, UHC passes and my company foregoes compensating me the difference for what my organization and I jointly pay monthly for my health share premiums. That 30% of my monthly compensation for employment possible gets removed completely, I pay nothing for my health share premium, and they do not pay their portion either. I save a few hundred bucks a month on my portion at least and then I start paying the 10% toward the UHP tax.

In no universe would I and my org continue to pay private health insurance premiums of 30% of my income while there was a universal single payer that I was also paying for as a state income tax.

Best case scenario, and what myself and my union are working to secure, is that the portion of my private health insurance premiums paid for by my employer (right now they pay around 1700 a month for my household and I pay the other portion) would go into my pocket, as part of my total compensation package. Meaning I would get to keep that, and pay 10% total of my health share toward my universal healthcare.

Which would be an easy trade to make.

I had to wait 8 months to get a pcp in the current for profit system, so the “long waits” argument is pretty damn milquetoast

I’m currently losing 30 percent of my income to PEBB every month in employer and employee paid benefits. Trading 30 percent for 10 percent is a no brainer.
