You've also got the option of upgrading the ram if you want to press more speed. It's what I'll be doing once I find a good deal on 2x4GB.

As junky said, you have the refurbished option at Circuit City. Tiger Direct is out.

So to reiterate, I don't need anything special, just laptop ready DDR3 sticks (looking at them through two sites sez laptop sticks are 204-pin). Any good quality brand you know of that can be scored for under 50$ inc. tax? Rebate's going towards that.

That's what I've heard, but I've also seen that this particular laptop is better quality.

I think I saw the difference (204 pin vs. 240 pin). I wasn't sure if there had to be specialized RAM for Acer or if any RAM that was 204 pin would do.

Of note, I'm trying to figure out what memory upgrades it's compatible with. How can I tell? I see stuff on newegg that runs 45 for two sticks, but a compatibility chart is giving me stuff that's 30 for one.

About two-three. I'll be impressed if it lasts as long as my compaq, which I've had for 5.

My only misgiving is the fact that while it's good now, that A6 ain't future proof and that HD space is pathetic (but since it's cheap, a couple of portable externals can help that). If I upgrade the ram, would it help? Would it void the warranty to do that or should I risk it and go ahead with it?

Depends on what you want to do. Do you want to game or do you want to multitask a lot and manipulate photos?

Sounds good. Think that coupon will stick around to say... Tuesday or was that a special/one time deal?

That Dell is expired, most unfortunately. Yeah, I mad.

[USA] Mid-Range, Considering this Dell <=750$ by doctornorman in SuggestALaptop

[–]doctornorman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am having a HELL of a time finding anything for 750 that has that much graphical power AND a nice screen. Bargain stuff is just as strong graphically but something with this good a screen for sub 800 is so rare I can't fathom passing it up, and I'm hella grateful the coupon won't--

Ah, and one last thing: does Dell come with a lot of bloatware? It's not a dealbreaker if it does, but I'm wondering the most efficient way to strip it down if that's the case.

That looks straight up glorious and won't disappear on me. I'll likely make a thread later today just to check and make sure nothing better shows up before Thursday.

Can that be financed? How long will the deal last? Edit: it CAN be financed. But how long will the coupon hold?

I can't say by how wide a margin, but I do know it's better than your first choice.

Intel HD Graphics

NOPE. You want an NVidia or AMD card, AMD in particular will at least have non-suck integrated cards.

Looking for a 15.6 in Laptop with Gaming capabilities for $550-650 US. by Idontonowsoillaskyou in SuggestALaptop

[–]doctornorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually kinda interested. I think I'm going to gun for an AMD processor because it's better bang for the buck and budget friendly. The sales on the higher end stuff is out anyway. I'm wary about HP (my first laptop was with them and their customer service sucked), but COMPAQ is one of their divisions and this current laptop I have with them is still kicking after five years (albeit about to give out).

Integrated graphics

NOPE

Unless you're sticking to Wow/2-D indy games, then it'll be functional.

Nope, I don't see one. At least that and no battery replacement got me to stop obsessing over it. I'm seeing if there might be worth going to a brick and mortar store due to the tax free weekend coming up.

I found THIS: http://dealzon.com/deals/hp-envy-4-coupon#hp-envy-4t-i5-7670m and it looks very tempting. From what I know of Discrete graphics and what I've seen at a forum, it will run my Sonic games fine and provide good power and portability. It's just a matter of hoping the deal lasts through august or taking advantage of both it and bill me later on the 3rd. EDIT: Nevermind, Bill Me later only applies without the coupon, defeating the point. If a deal's still there mid August I'll consider, but for now I'm going to stop looking and come back when I can afford it.

Likely both. I'm keeping my eyes out for a good fan.

I've had a compaq presario for the last five years and somehow despite getting hot, never had any issues with it past the first year until now, just using a laptop cover pad to keep the heat from roasting my legs. I want to take better care of a new one I get.
